    Additional Location Information

    TERME EUGANEE: ABANO AND MONTEGROTTO
This fascinating property is surrounded by countryside and it's away from the car traffic. The villa is located close to the famous SPA towns of Abano Terme and Montegrotto, two well-known villages since Roman times. The presence of ruins in this area confirms the importance that the place must have had at this time. The name's origin is attributed to Aponus, the god of hot springs.
Abano Terme and Montegrotto Terme are placed at the foot of Euganean Hills, cover the south-west part of the Province of Padua, immediately North of the town of Este and Monselice. They appear as huge green oasis that break the flat monotony of the Venetian Plain.
With the regional Law n°38 of October, 10th in 1989, the zone was appointed “Regional Park” and it extends over 18,000 hectares, including ca.15 districts with a resident population of about 44,000 inhabitants.
The Euganean Thermal baths, with the two principal centres of Abano and Montegrotto can be the ideal place to find again one’s own wellness and to spend a holiday in equilibrium and quietness. The secret is held by the warm water, salty-bromine-iodine, that originates from the uncontaminated basins of the Pre-alps and crosses over 50 years a 70-100 km distance, passing through the subsoil, where it reaches a temperature of 87°C and becomes rich of mineral Salts. In the SPA area the water can make a rapid ascent without practically unchanged both temperature and salinity. Its chemical composition and temperature play an important action in the therapeutic mud and in the development of special plants (algae) and animals (micro organisms) that forms during the maturation process of the mud: that mud through which the Thermal Baths are considered among the most famous SPA locations.

    PADUA
Padua is a district of 210,000 inhabitants in Veneto.
It hosts an ancient university and boasts several traces of a glorious cultural and artistic past, that make it a destination for tourists from all over the world. Today it stands as an important economic centre. Padua is furthermore worldwide well known as the town of Saint Anthony, the celebrated Portuguese Franciscan, who was born in Lisbon and then lived in Padua for a few years.
The University of Padua was founded in 1222. It's the second most ancient one in Italy and one of the most prominent in Europe. Here preached Saint Anthony, who also died here in 1231 and it was for him that the citizen of Padua built a magnificent basilica. Between 1303 and 1305 Giotto painted the invaluable pictorial treasure Cappella degli Scrovegni. The XV century, represents the climax for the vividness for Padua, which held a leading role in European art and culture, thanks to the presence of artists and scholars like Giusto Dè Menabuoi, Altichiero, Francesco Petrarca and Mantegna.
The St. Anthony Basilica in Padua, simply named Santo by the citizen of Padua, is the most important church in the town but also one of the most visited in the world. Architecturally it escapes a stylistic definition; an enormous and unique building. It is characterized by a perfect harmonization of various styles: the Romanesque façade, the Gothic arcs, the Byzantine domes, the bell towers recalling Islamic art.
Scrovegni Chapel holds a very famous cycle of frescoes by Giotto and is considered as one of his greatest masterpieces. The narration of Christ’s Passion and the tales about Holy Mary and Jesus are painted in a series of three lines of panels placed above each other, along three walls of the room. The frescoes of the opposite façade, which bring to a close the event of human redemption, represent a magnificent Last Judgement, one of the masterpieces of western art.
The Abbey of Santa Giustina, in theheart of Padua, dates back to the XVII century in his current form. It was founded in the 5th century on the tomb of the namesake saint, Giustina of Padua, and in the 15th century it became an important monastery. Some other very beautiful churches are: Basilica del Carmine, Basilica del Duomo, Chiesa di Santa Sofia, San Gaetano Chiesa, Chiesa degli Eremitani.
Palazzo della Ragione was the ancient seat of the city courts in Padua. It was built at the beginning of year 1218 and it was then added a raised section in 1306 by Giovanni Eremitani, who gave it the characteristic coverage shaped as a hull of an upside down ship. The first floor boasts the greatest hanging room in the world, known as Salone (measures: 81mt x 27mt and 27 mt height). It had a wooden ceiling at the time. The original frescoes, attributed to Giotto were destroyed in the 1420 fire. The Salone is nowadays painted with a grand cycle of frescoes with astrological theme (accomplished among 1425e 1440), based on the studies of Pietro of Abano. A gigantic wooden horse is preserved in the room, which is a Renaissance copy of the monument to Gattamelata by Donatello. There are also two Egyptian sphinxes brought by Giovan Battista Belzoni in the XIX century. Recently an angle of the Salone has been used to lodge a Foucault’ Pendulum, in order to emphasize the tight bound between Padua and science. The Astronomical Observatory, where Galileo Galilei studied, is also famous for this aspect.
Prato della Valle is famed as the biggest square in Europe. It is spread with beautiful statues. On Saturday morning it hosts a famous market.

    VENICE
At about 40 Km from Padua, lies the city of Venice. Today it is divided into the six districts of Dorsoduro, Santa Croce, St. Polo, St. Marco, Cannaregio and Castello and it develops on 118 islets connected to each other through 354 bridges and separated by 177 rivulets and channels. Venice is one of the most visited cities of art in the world.
San Marco square can be considered as the heart of the town. It is the only square which is named so in Venice (the other ones are in fact called "fields" or "campielli"). It is one of the most beautiful in the world. It hosts the homonym basilica, Palazzo Ducale and the bell tower of San Marco.
Another symbol of the city is the Bridge of Rialto surrounded by the characteristics shops.
Some other important Venetian monuments are the Arsenal, the Church of Saint Maria della Salute, the Basilica of Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari, the synagogues of the Ghetto.
The main channels of the town are the Canal Grande and the Channel of Giudecca. The first divides the city in two parts by tracing an “S”, the second separates the very town centre from the Giudecca island.
