Additional Location Information

The house is set on the hillside overlooking the resort of Elounda, in the traditional conservation village of Pano Elounda. The streets of the village are narrow and there is very little traffic. The views from the roof terrace over Elounda town, Mirambello bay to the distant mountains of Thripti are superb. The neighbours are friendly and welcoming and life continues much as it would have done for centuries. The Blue Flag beaches are just a short drive away or a gentle stroll downhill (1 km). Parking is available in the nearby church car park (2 mins) and taxis are plentiful and cheap from the main square in Elounda. The bus service is excellent. The village offers guests a chance to relax and unwind, but for nightlife, village market, banks, cafes, bars and restaurants - all are available in town. Boats leave regularly from the harbour for Spinalonga island and Aghios Nikolaos, and there is a water sports centre and cycle hire. The area is excellent for walking and nearby are several archaeological sites. Crete is famous for its wild flowers and the mountains are bright with colour from March onwards until the heat of the summer in July and August. Pano Elounda is the village that was chosen for the filming of the Greek TV series 'The Island' and it is just a few minutes drive along the coast from 'Spinalonga Island' setting for Victoria Hislop's best-selling novel. Elounda was recommended as one of the top 10 holiday destinations in Europe by CNN, the American News channel.
