Thanks to "Summer in Italy" preperty managers we were able to locate this great villa over looking agropoli. The location was great. The village is now our favorite place, along with the restaurants and boat tours. The local wine is excellent and the people are wonderful. The staff at Summer in Italy helped us with every detail and responded to every email and call all along the way and even when we returned. This is a great service. We will use them again and propbably return to the Villa.

Oslo, NorwayWonderful house, less impressive house keeping
Left on 07/10/2012 for a stay in June 2012
A group of 4 couples (3 of them with each their 1-2 year old child) spent 2 weeks at the villa, and arrived with really high expectations.
If you take time to look at the photos and read the reviews, you will probably have no surprises booking a stay at this villa. It´s all accurate, pool is huge, outdoor area is great and the quality of amenities and such is good (at least sufficient for 90 per cent of us). We did find the one 1/2 fridge + 1/2 freezer in the kitchen on the smaller side for a group our size, but we got by.
Our one concern, that might stop us from booking this villa again, was the confusing house keeping. When staying at vacation rentals like this, you do some cleaning yourself (after cooking etc), and the staff does some of it. There´s 3 hours 6 days a week housekeeping included, but a lot of that time is spent taking care of gardens and other outdoor areas. So the time spent cleaning bathrooms, bedrooms and kitchen is far less. Also, it was unclear to me what was expected of the guests and what we could expect from the caretaker (she might be getting a bit too old for this, but she´s a wonderful lady). We left towels on the bathroom floor a couple of times, hoping they´d be replaced, but they were not. We only got new small cloths and hand towels, but only one large towel most of the time. After one of the two weeks, the linens and beach towels were replaced, which was nice.
Also, we had quite a serious fly problem in the kitchen and around the outside dining area. There were also a lot of huge wasps on the top patio. With small children, food and the beautiful garden around us, bugs might be difficult to avoid, and we could probably have done better at preventing it. Most of the members of the group got quite an amount of bug bites, but only annoying, not the serious kinds.
The rooms are mostly wonderful, and the exception is the one with the two single beds. This is really small, no balcony or view, and suitable for kids, not adults.
Most members of our group complained about really hard beds.
All in all: Great value, great base for exploring this part of italy, but lacking a bit in terms of housekeeping.
Booking agency was wonderful throughout - no complaints there.
Directions to the house was outdated!Response from Summer In Italy - 07/22/2012
Manager
It's great to hear that you had a good time at the villa, and thanks for this opportunity to clarify how housekeeping is handled at Villa Gioconda, but, really, at any self-catering property.
As you correctly point out, in self-catering villas the staff is there to support the cleaning activities, so that the guests do not have to do it all by themselves . Villa Gioconda comes with 3 hours of cleaning from Monday to Saturday included in the rental price, which is a compromise between making it affordable while providing a good amount of service. The level of cleaning that can be achieved in three hours depends on the condition in which the house is found in the morning, of course. The routine of Anna, the caretaker, usually starts early in the morning in the outdoor areas (it's often the only time of day when they are not being used), for activities such as tidying up the many terraces and pool area. Then she moves inside, where she takes care of the areas which need more attention. When there are small children around, usually it is the whole house which needs attention. :-) Anna is flexible, though: if guests prefer for her to work in a specific area of the house all they have to do is tell her.
One thing that Anna is not supposed to do, as the villa in this respect is self-catering, is to replace towels left on the bathroom floor -- whatever she's done to accommodate the desire is beyond her duty and she should be commended for it. Guests can, of course, have clean towels every day if they wish! The villa is equipped with a washing machine: all it takes is to ask Anna to wash the towels, or to show how the machine works. Indeed, having a washing machine available is one of the key factors in choosing a villa for families with small children. Just be sure Anna understands what you need, and she will help you in getting it.
Guests who want to enjoy a longer house-keeping presence can, if they wish, hire Anna for an increased amount of time, paying her directly a fee that would be considered "nominal" in any industrialized country. Mostly, though, the housekeeping hours are judged sufficient, and Anna gets hired for her cooking skills, for things such as making pizza in the villa's wood-burning oven or preparing Italian traditional meals or hand-made breakfast cakes. She also milks her own goats, and at times she has available hand-made cheese that you can buy. She is too modest to offer it for sale, so if interested make the first move and ask about her "formaggio".
I hope I have been able to provide useful information to prospective guests. However, the most valuable piece of advice I can give is this: no matter how small the question, don't leave it to doubt, please ask the SummerInItaly.com staff. We are available throughout your stay to help you make the most of your villa rental, so do ask and take advantage of our support! -

We really enjoyed our stay in Villa Gioconda. We were there spending my mother in laws 60th anniversary. We were 8 adults and 2 small kids.
House is nice and big, very well equipped. Garden, pool-area and terraces are great. View to the Salerno-gulf and agropoli is amazing.
Anna [the caretaker] was so helpful and friendly. She made for us very delicious pizza and tiramisu in the tavernetta. And the service from Summer in Italy was unbelievably good. We had a great week in Villa! -

Chicago, IllinoisAbsolutely Wonderful!!!
Left on 11/25/2010 for a stay in July 2010
We stayed at Villa Gioconda for a week in July, 2010. It was absolutely wonderful. We booked through Summer in Italy and they were wonderful, also. They were very helpful and answered any questions that we had immediately. I will definitely book through them again. The villa itself was beautiful and very clean. We had ten people staying there with ages from 17 - 81. We had more than enough room for everyone to be very comfortable. The kitchen was large enough so when we were cooking we all were extremely comfortable. The pool area is marvelous. On the days we weren't sightseeing we spent all of our time out there. Beautiful weather and scenery! Agropoli was great. Just a couple of minute car ride and we were in the cutest town. We caught a ferry right there to take us to Capri. Very convenient. I cannot say enough about anna, the caretaker. What a wonderful women! She was so helpful and so friendly. She cooked for us on the first day we checked in and it was one of the best meals we had in all of Italy. She also owns the pizzeria right above the villa. We walked up there a couple of nights for dinner and the pizza and the rest of the food was very good. We were able to meet her husband and two of her children and they are as sweet as her. Also, it was very convenient for us because most of our ancestors are from Campagna so all the towns were very covenient for us to get to from agropoli.
Also, it is very less crowded than some of the other places we visited in Italy. All in all, everything was wonderful and I will definitely visit Villa Gioconda again!!! -

Spacious villa with ample accomodation both inside and out for group parties. Good location to visit Pompei, Amalfi Coast and Cliente National Park. The villa has a great pool and terrace area and the housekeeper will alos cook you pizzas in the villa's pizza oven by request.
Summer in Italy were really helpful both before and during our stay at the property and I have no hesitation in recommending the property or their services. -

We didn't figure how this place was beatiful and comfortable, a very beautiful landscape and good services. True to say we didn't view places around the villa beacause we were tired and got rest from this beatiful mini holiday, we stayed just four days.
We had a little difficulty in the last tract to arrive to Villa Gioconda.

I stayed with a number of friends at the Villa Gioconda the second week in June this year.
If you want to feel rich and famous rent this place.
It has gorgeous views, fabulous bedrooms, unbelievable amounts of room all the amenities, washer, dishwasher, wifi, AC in each room so you can control the temperatures, even SCREENS!! When we were there the breeze off the ocean was continuous except at eventide so we kept the windows open.
Anna (the caretaker) will cook each evening for an additional $60 plus cost of food. For 10 of us it was a huge feast costing $150 and we ended up wasting food. The second night we got a little more real on food quantity.
The location is close to Paestum, Sorrento, Pompeii, Herculineum, the Villa Poppaea at Aplontis, the Amalfi coast, and Capri.
Hubby who is an archeology fiend went off every day. I OTOH am a beach bum and spent some of my time either at the pool or the incredible white sand beaches. Who said Italy doesn't have white sand?
Pool was definitely swimming temperature and we all enjoyed it particularly after arriving on an early flight from the US and driving to Agropoli. Made the difference between life and sleep. An hour in the pool and I was good to go until midnight!!
We got the mosquito coils and used them on the patio which resolved the mosquito issue outdoors.
With 2 little ones the doors got left open so we ended up buying some of those electronic things that kill mosquitoes in the bedroom which also worked well.
Tile around the pool was slippery so watch the little ones.
All we can talk about since we got back is how soon we can go again!!

The villa is gorgeous. We had nine adults plus two small kids, and weren't falling on top of each other :) We actually never even used the basement or the pizza oven...we mostly hung out on the porch.
While the villa is a fair distance from many sites, we enjoyed going to Agropoli for basic shopping. Paestum was very close...only about 20 minutes away. The ruins there are amazing.
On other days we drove the Amalfi Coast Road, went to Capri (ferry from Salerno), and went to Pompeii. Plus spent a lot of time relaxing on the porch or in the pool in the evenings.
The villa does have internet access, although it is not advertised. That was helpful for staying in touch. A few minor plumbing problems were dealt with fairly promptly, although figuring out hot to get hot water in each bathroom (differently in each one) was interesting!
Anyone looking for a relaxing way to start or end a vaction in southern Italy should consider this location. I'd rent again from Summer in Italy..they handled all questions quickly and professionally.

Cleveland, OhioGreat Villa Overlooking the Med!
Left on 06/25/2009 for a stay in October 2006
Villa Gioconda was the perfect place for our group. We needed three bedrooms and three baths, and wanted a big enough kitchen for everyone to get involved together. This worked out perfectly (and the fourth bedroom was used as nap space when someone wanted a little 'along time'!)
The villa is very well-equipped and nicely furnished. We were very comfortable immediately and settled in as if it were our own house. There was space if anyone wanted to go off and read quietly, and the ample terraces gave us wonderfully memorable breakfasts and sunsets.
The kitchens are fabulous! First the "normal" kitchen, which was uncommonly stocked with loads of cookware and china. Everything we needed was right at hand, and we were able to have three cooks mingling at once. Downstairs is one of the greatest things we have seen in a villa - a taverna! It was another cooking and dining space with a huge door that opened up to outside. This kitchen, too, is fully equipped, but also has a wood-burning pizza oven! (So cool!)
We could not have been happier with the service we received- the recommendations, friendly greeting and welcome gifts all made us feel special.
This is a wonderful house, up a quiet road but with wonderful views and some nearby dining options. The ruins of Paestum and the beachside towns were within easy reach.
