Description from the owner

Lying at the foothills of the Luberon, 'La Loubiere' is surrounded by beautiful countryside, in the 10 acre grounds of a 16th century chateau, yet just 20 from Aix en Provence. An ideal base for exploring the beautiful markets and villages of the Luberon. Guests have their own fenced pool (12m x 6.5m) with views of lavender, and the thyme and rosemary covered hills. The tennis court, which is set in the grounds of the chateau, was resurfaced in 2008. Guests have unlimited access to the court. It is also a perfect base for hiking, mountain biking and horse riding with its proximity to the Durance River and the Luberon hills.

    Fantastic!

Left on 07/14/2012 for a stay in June 2012

Our extended family of 13 had a wonderful stay at La Loubiere for a week in June. We rented the entire chateau (all three houses), and had more than enough room by far. It is a beautiful place, with a great mix of charming old architecture/construction and functional modern amenities (swimming pool, clean modern bathrooms, excellent water pressure and plenty of hot water, ethernet and wifi access, washer/dryers, dishwashers, etc.). In the main house there is an enormous kitchen/dining/living area, perfect for large groups cooking communal meals (each of the houses has its own full kitchen). There is a TV with a raft of English language channels (but you're in Provence, don't sit in front of the TV!). You can go fishing in an irrigation canal on the property, and there is a river for swimming or fishing a short car or bicycle ride (or energetic walk) up the road. My daughter enjoyed feeding carrots to the horses in the pasture next door.

The property is in a good location, outside the town of Pertuis, and not far from aix-en-Provence (close enough to aix that you can go there for just lunch and a bit of shopping if you want). It is convenient for longer side trips to places like Marseilles, Cassis, Roussillon, Arles, Avignon, Pont du Gard (not to be missed).

Alec and Deb are excellent hosts and fun upbeat people. They provide just the right balance of privacy and accessibility. They were always available for advice about the area, things to do, and just to chat (for humorous insight into French politics, ask alec about the boar in the canal). I assume they would have been equally responsive to any problems with the property, but we didn't have any issues of that nature.

Overall we had a fabulous week (and were blessed with great weather). I highly recommend La Loubiere, and would definitely stay there again (I think one of the smaller houses by itself would be perfect for a second honeymoon...)

    Fantastic stay, yet again !!

Left on 10/02/2011 for a stay in September 2011

Returned to Provence in Sept this year,in our opinion Chateau de la Loubiere is the place to stay. Such a warm welcome from Deb and alec and it provides a perfect base for exploring Provence. The weather was stunning, we visited many places including the Gorges du Verdon, Cassis, Isle sur la Sorgue. A week was just not long enough but we will certainly be back again next year. Highly recommended

We would return in a heart beat!

Left on 07/21/2011 for a stay in June 2011

We just returned from a three week trip to France with our children, who are 11 and 12 years old. Our stay at Les Platanes was the best place we stayed while in France. The cottage was perfect for our needs and Deb and alec were a terrific resource for all there is to do in the area. Be sure to ask Deb about the cooking class in Provence, conducted by Joyce Borgmann www.oulivie.fr. A must for families looking to experience life in Provence.

We have fond memories of our stay, especially ringing the bell and waiting for someone to pop out of the window!

As of right now, there is no wireless, so leave your I-pad at home. However, Alec was kind enough to provide an ethernet cord, so that we could access the Internet on our computer.

    Exquisite

Left on 06/23/2010 for a stay in May 2010

If you can only go to one spot in France - then this exquisite property is the place to stay. Deb and alec are the most incredible hosts and truly are the perfect people to run such a business - incredibly friendly, knowledgable and so warm - going completely out of their way for us. The lodgings truly exemplify the definition of exquisite: "special beauty or charm, or rare and appealing excellence" Loved it and hope to return someday.

Our extended family and friends spent 3 restful weeks in the La Grange house on the grounds of the Chateau La Loubiere. The proprietor's, Deb & Alec McDougall, were happy to accommodate our needs in a friendly, efficient manner. They went out of their way to make us feel welcome.
    We hope to visit again!!

Once again, another fantastic stay !!

Left on 06/02/2010 for a stay in May 2010

This was the 4th time we have stayed at Chateau de la Loubiere. We have stayed in all 3 of the gites at different times, depending on the size of our party. Each and every time has been fantastic.

Each gite is delighfully furnished and has high quality linen and towels together with good size kitchens, full cooking facilities, washing machines and sunny terraces. The swimming pool is a good size and a tennis court is also on site.

Chateau de la Loubiere is conveniently situated for discovering Provence, Aix en Provence, L'Isle sur la Sorgue, Fontaine de Vaucluse, Avignon, Roussillon, Gorges du Verdon, Loumarin, Gordes etc, etc ...

The town of Pertuis has a wide range of shops, large supermarkets, restaurants and a weekly market and makes a perfect base.

The English owners are very knowledgeable about the area and aim to make your stay a truly memorable one.

We will be returning again and would highly recommend to anyone wanting to explore the delights of Provence

Exactly what I had hoped for!

Left on 05/26/2010 for a stay in May 2010

My husband and I were in Provence with another couple to celebrate our 40th birthdays. We stayed in Sebastian's house and it was very comfortable for the 4 of us. Everything was very clean, the beds were comfortable, the linens and towels better than what I have at home and the patio was so nice to enjoy our wine and cheese before dinner. Perhaps the icing on the cake were Deb and alec, the owners and hosts. They are delightful people and very willing to help out however they can with reservations, directions and recommendations
We were also there to do some road biking and the local bike shop Velo Luberon had great bikes for us to rent. There is also a wonderful 'loop' that goes through the Luberon foothills and many small villages. It kept us off busy roads and took us through places where we were able to experience flavor of the area.
The pool looked wonderful, but the weather did not cooperate while we were there. Other than that, our stay was wonderful and I look forward to returning with my family.

    Wonderful Stay at La Loubiere

Left on 05/26/2010 for a stay in May 2010

After a week since returning home, my wife and I are still having "withdrawals" from our wonderful stay at La Loubiere in Provence. We had a fantastic time. Our home for 10 days (Sebastian's House at La Loubiere) was charming, cozy and well equipped. Our gracious hosts, Deb and Alec McDougal, made us feel very welcomed and provided lots of information on the surrounding area. We would highly recommend staying at La Loubiere and hope to return one day.

    Spring in Provence

Left on 05/04/2010 for a stay in April 2010

My husband and two boys (11 and 14)and I spent a wonderful week at La Loubiere. April was a bit chillier than we had expected, but we were toasty in the house and loved having the fireplace. The house and grounds were perfect for us. The kitchen was well equipped. Our boys loved running around outside. Pertuis is a pleasant town, centrally located to the many sights and different areas of Provence. Having a GPS is recommended. We were there during the volcano which affected our flight out and Deb and Alec were very kind and helpful in helping us work out a reasonable plan. We hope to return to Provence and La Loubiere.

    Wonderful family spot

Left on 05/04/2010 for a stay in May 2010

We had a wonderful week in Provence at La Loubiere. We rented La Grange with two families including 5 adults and 4 children and we had plenty of space to spread out. The kids adored the garden, trampoline and tennis courts. It was a bit early for the pool (though one daredevil 6 year old and an equally daring grown-up type did a few laps).

One of the best things about the McDougall's estate is the location is central to so much that is wonderful in Provence. We explored Gordes, Roussillion and Lourmarin for the Provencal village chapter, Aix for the markets, Marseille and Cassis (including beaches and a boat tour of the calanques) for the coast and Moustiers Ste Marie/Gorges du Verdon for a day of hiking and mountain life. Thank you Deb and Alec for a wonderful retreat!
