The studio is at road level in a gate house on a property with beautiful Provencal vegetation located in one of the loveliest areas of Aix e Provence in a calm, country setting only two miles from the center of town (easy walking distance). It is in the north-east sector of the town, which is the side which has been protected from development. There is frequent bus service into town about 700 meters from the property. If you walk a half hour in one direction, you are on the beautiful and lively Cours Mirabeau, the Champs Elysees of Aix and one of the most famous boulevards in France. Aix-en-Provence, founded by the Romans, is a beautiful university town a half hour north of Marseille and an hour and a half west of Cannes. In opinion polls it has more than once been voted on by French people as the town they would most like to live in. It has immense charm, outstanding historic architecture, wonderful sunny weather, lively markets, great food, hearty wine, and an active Anglo-American Club. There are about 300 day of sunshine a year.
As for the property itself, the location is one of the best features, as it is on the northeast side of town, which has been preserved. Aix has grown from a population of 50,000 people in 1950 to 145,000 just 60 years later. The demographic pressure has been tremendous, and there has been a lot of development to the north, south, and west. but the east and northeast have been spared. We have the advantage of living practically in the city, but in a semi-country setting in a beautiful environment. There are numerous activities available, hiking, cycling, visiting Mediterranean beaches and lovely historic towns and villages . There are hundreds of restaurants and cafes in the town.
