186338a wonderful place to stay
Left on 02/25/2012 for a stay in February 2012
We recently stayed at this house in ajijic. We have stayed here before hence a repeat choice of accommodation.
The house is spacious with en-suite facilities. One room has a huge shower, and there is also a large bath-tub available. The beds are very comfortable with very nice linen
The kitchen is modern and functional, there is also a study and guest rest-room. Laundry also.
There are two highly enjoyable outside sitting areas, a wide veranda at the front of the house, and a nice outdoor, more shaded area with fountain and plants at the back which has the bonus of an outdoor cooking area there as well. This is partially covered making it useable in the less usual event of rain.
The house is kept very clean and tidy, and I understand that this is maintained even when unoccupied. It is bright where you need the light, yet plenty of shade when it’s a hot day.
It’s a short walk to a wal-mart where you can find any essentials, and still walking distance from the main part of ajijic. Plenty of buses available nearby, and a taxi a phone call away
I would have no hesitation recommending this house as either a holiday rental, or for longer-term. -

Regina, CanadaThe house is great, Ajijic not a good vacation spot.
Left on 09/20/2011 for a stay in January 2011
The house is very nice including the grounds and outdoor area with pond. Good beds, large bedrooms & bathrooms. Good kitchen and lounge area at the front.Well maintained inside & outside. We stayed there in January and central heating would have been niceas it was quite cool. It is definitely not wheelchair friendly as there is a step up or down at the entrance to many areas. The local property manager(Veronica) was very friendly & helpful... We rented the car and there was some confusion about the price. You should get price and other requirements (shampoo the engine!?) in writing before going. The trip from Puerto Vallerta to ajijic by bus was an adventure. I didn’t think it was possible to have worse seats than air Transat, but I was wrong! The bus seats were very uncomfortable and the driver thought nothing of turning right from the left hand lane and habitually ignored traffic lights. In the unlikely event I ever go to ajijic again I will rent a car in Puerto Vallarta and drive myself. I say “unlikely” because, while it may well be a good place to retire to, it is not a good vacation spot, as there is little to see and nothing to do. The “cobblestone” streets are not flattened on top as they are in Europe but are just rounded river rocks laid on the ground with a little mortar between them. Sidewalks are the same – real ankle-breakers! and quite impossible to move a wheelchair on.
In short, this is a very nice house but I cannot imagine ever returning to ajijic.Response from Geraldine CastleTrudel - 09/22/2011

Having had my Mother visit in her late 80s I know what you mean about wheelchair accessibility, but if you had ventured a little further afield, say to Guadalajara you would have found wonderful places to visit. There are, for example, spectacular pedestrian boulevards in Talpacque and Guadalajara with museums, art galleries, entertainers, and shopping.

I stayed with my 2 adult daughters. We enjoyed the beautiful grounds, complete kitchen, and we each had our own bedroom. You could arrive with a change of clothes and a toothbrush. All your needs were met. We enjoyed the outdoor kitchen and the fountain where the birds enjoyed getting a bath or a drink. It was very relaxing and enjoyable. We were considering renting again, and found it was rented for the following year during the time we come to ajijic. Enjoy your stay.

Dundas, OntarioA Beautiful House with beautiful grounds
Left on 02/17/2011 for a stay in December 2010
This was our first trip to ajijic. It was a great relief to find that the house surpassed our expectations. It was very spacious and welcoming. The gardens were very well kept with beautiful roses and other plants. There is a gorgeous patio with outdoor grill and water fountain. Gerry (the owner) wasn’t kidding when she said that all we needed to bring was our toothbrushes. The house is tastefully decorated and well supplied. In addition, Gerry supplied a lot of information about visiting ajijic and surrounding area. She recommended using Charter Club Tours. The highlight of our trip was a delightful day in Tequila with Ernesto from Charter Club. The house has all the amenities for cooking: however, the restaurants in ajijic are close by with fresh seafood for under $10. We didn’t use a car and either walked or took the local bus (5 to 7 pesos). Local taxis are very reasonable & dependable. We felt very safe in the community. The local people were very friendly and accommodating. The only down side was that we found the evenings to be cold (we went in December). Overall, we highly recommend the house.

Ottawa, OntarioAbove and beyond our expectations! Fantastic place!
Left on 08/25/2010 for a stay in March 2008
Beautiful house in gated community in hillside town, just outside Guadalajara. Gorgeous place, super clean, nice gardens, well maintained. Inside was five star. Place with quiet and friendly neighbours. All the conveniences of home and easy to get to. Easy for making arrangements, booking, paying etc... It is a great spot for a family or a group, especially for a longer stay. The community nearby by is great with lots of art, little shopts and restaurants. Lots of great deals to be had. Other than restaurants, there isn't tons of nightlife immediately nearby but plenty in Guadalajara about 45 minutes away. Plenty of parks and water recreation very close by. I wasn't a big fan of driving around at night, but that applies to most places I don't know well. It was a great place to wind down and chill out. Loved it.

Deep River, OntarioA marvellous time was had by all
Left on 08/23/2010 for a stay in January 2010
We loved the airy spaciousness of the house and the quiet environment, but so close to the action in downtown ajijic.
We spent January-February there in 2009 and again in 2010. We love well furnished comfort of the house with some lovely art and mementoes of travel in Mexico.
Local attractions we particularly enjoyed were the fiestas and Charros (displays of horsemanship and bull-riding) in the lead up to lent. The crafts of Mexico are really amazing. In ajijic we were centrally located to visit Guadalajara city and its bordering craft centres in Tlaquepaque and Tonalla.
A little further away is Patzcuaro with its wonderful villages that each specialize in one particular craft. We bought a wonderful silver bowl in Santa Clara del Cobre which specializes in beaten metal artwork. We intend to go back some some day in October/November to see the celebrations around all Saints and all Souls days. Ajijic, the town is safe and secure, with a large group of North america expatriates living year round in retirement. So there is some catering to the whims of North american tastes for those who want it. For my money, the best, most delicious spicy food I ever tasted was in little hole in the wall restaurants and at street vendor stands in ajijic. I am going back home to australia next January, but for sure I'll be back the year after.
