Columbus, OhioYou won't want to leave!
Left on 06/24/2012 for a stay in June 2012
As I lay sprawled across the king sized bed, listening to the waves and the wind, I felt as though I was still floating and bobbing in the water from days spent snorkeling with the turtles, rays, barracuda and other beautifully colored fish. If you are looking for the perfect vacation spot, not a high rise all inclusive but a beautifully decorated home away from home--this is it! We arrived late on a Saturday night, after a hot travel day, the condo was cool and there were chips, salsa and fresh fruit waiting for us. We found ourselves staying closer to the water than we ever had in our life! The sounds were amazing and I may not sleep well tonight (my first night in my own bed) without the music of the water! This place is everything the owners promise and more! You can drink the water--what a bonus! There are several ice cube trays for your use as well. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed during our stay. There was even a small cooler that came in handy for some day trips. Other pluses: beach towels, daily maid service (Patricia), pool (so you can practice with your snorkeling equipment before heading out into the bay), and augustine to help with any questions concerns you may have! The views from this condo are absolutely amazing. Literally a view from everywhere in the condo. We ate out every day--at La Buena Vida, Lol-Ha, La Lunita, Loncheria akumalito, La Cueva del Pescador as well as right from the red lunch truck that stops in the parking lot each day at 1 pm! We had truly amazing food all week. Be sure to head up to Yal-Ku to do some amazing snorkeling and head out with The akumal Dive shop staff for a great boat/snorkeling trip as well! There is so much to see and do in this area that we will definitely be back! Playa Caribe #5 is a great home base where you will feel like you have found a little piece of paradise that you will never want to leave!

Thanks for the review, Angel. I enjoyed working with you and Rick, from the first contact in January to your June departure, planning your family's tropical vacation . Sounds like your kids weren't picky eaters after all. Let me know when you want to return to our little piece of paradise.

Our stay in your lovely condo was Outstanding! Frank and Susan were very willing to share info on turtle hatchings so we had an opportunity to actually see an event. It took the little devils about 3 hours but Elio (not sure about the spelling) and his wife were there to secure a safe trip
to the water. Everyone needs to see this happen at least one time in their life. I can't express how much we enjoyed the staff in the condo. Agustin was even more helpful than you had earlier expressed. He provided us with a parking spot for our golf cart rental so I could recharge the batteries each night, arranged multiple taxi trips to
Playa, Hidden World cenotes, and to the Biosphere. Other condo owners recommended the Biosphere trip which was incredible (as well as the mosquitoes). Patricia, our maid, was very quite but spent hours cleaning each day. We pretty much kept up with the dishes so she didn't have to do them. We felt guilty that she spent so much time
each day. Alfredo came by once to help out with the TV since the wiring to the satellite and DVD player did not work. It seems like the cable might be going bad but he fixed it. Agustin even got the satellite people to realign the dish for better reception. I want to thank you again for changing your plans so we could stay the last two
weeks. We had an outstanding time and enjoying the culture. We did go by the art show but we felt a little under dressed for the event so we didn't go in. Domingo was on-time and made our trip to the airport and groceries a breeze. Great recommendation. I'm sure we'll be in
touch again for future travels. Thanks for answering all of my questions and concerns. You have a really nice setup in akumal and Lynne and I are considering a purchase once we get our daughter out of college.

The building is beautiful, right on the beach, with an open-air skylight full of plants in its heart. The location is terrific, on a quiet lagoon, where you can walk into the clear water and snorkel with turtles, parrot fish and yellow tangs. Groceries, a fresh water lagoon, restaurants, and Mexican art are all in walking distance. The staff is the best, friendly and helpful. Augustin, the manager, dealt swiftly with any concern or request - from locating a chef to fixing the wi-fi. Patricia, our maid, kept everything not only clean, but beautiful, adding to our pleasure in coming home to sparkling rooms. Every bedroom in #5 has a balcony opening onto the ocean, as well as a balcony the width of the living area. The colors of the ocean and the sound of the waves fill one's senses. Annie has decorated with Mexican tiles, colorful animal masks, and beautiful fabrics. Every space is so lovely. She has stocked great books on the flora and fauna of the Caribbean as well as Mayan ruins. The bathrooms have huge walk-in ceramic tile showers and double sinks. I loved the beds, firm and inviting. I loved waking up to the sunrise over the ocean. They have nighttime security guards, an in-house safe, and from-the-tap safe drinking water. They left us a welcome basket of avocados, bananas, papaya, chips and salsa for our first night. Each evening, we slipped down to the beach and watched the stars blaze in the heavens. Living there was one of the best experiences of my life.

I treated my daughter, son and daughter-in-law, and myself to a week in Playa Caribe #5. Our only complaint was the week was just not enough time to enjoy all Half Moon Bay/Akumal had to offer.
The staff was just wonderful. Agustin called to make all our arrangements because none of us spoke Spanish.
We especially loved the spectacular view from our condo, a center unit. The center units have ocean views from all windows. We loved sitting on the deck watching the turtles pop their heads up for air.
We plan to return to #5 and rent the condos on either side so we can share the experience with the whole family. The grandkids, now teenagers, will love it. -

This was an incredible place to spend a week! Once my girlfriend and I got dropped off in front of the condo we didn't get into a car for the rest of the trip. The condo was perfectly situated for walking everywhere and the views off the bay-facing balcony were spectacular... a great vantage point from which to sip coffee and read each morning before heading down to the beach to snorkel among the coral formations and turtles or lounge under the palapas with a beer. I loved the style and decorations of the condo and the kitchen was fully and perfectly equipped for whipping up gourmet meals.

Our vacation at Playa Caribe #5 was a dream from the start. We arrived at the Cancun airport and were greeted immediately by Domingo, our driver, who was recommended by the Hoffmans. Domingo and his partner grabbed our baggage and whisked us off to their air-conditioned van. When we arrived at Playa Caribe, the staff took our luggage up to #5. When we walked in, we were immediately stunned by the stellar view of the ocean right there in front of us. The front room is open and spacious, leading out to a deck overlooking the amazing Caribean.
Over the next week, we found that the condo was fully equiped with everything we could possibly need. The open-air market is within walking distance, and they have wonderful fresh fruits and vegetables that we prepared in the condo. We also discovered Lucy's Taco Stand, where we found ourselves going back to many times to savor their amazing fish tacos.
My absolute favorite thing about akumal was the snorkeling, and access from Playa Caribe could not be easier. One could almost roll out of bed and straight into the ocean. We saw the most amazing sea life on our snorkeling adventures, including turtles, stingrays, an eel, and countless brilliantly-colored fish of all shapes and sizes. We also were lucky enough to witness a sea turtle hatch. What a treat!
Overall, the staff at Playa Caribe really makes it the place to stay. Our housekeeper, Patricia, cleaned the entire condo every day, and the staff in the office was very helpful with directions and restaurant recommendations. Everyone was very friendly and really made us feel at home. We can't wait to return! -

We had a girls' adventure here at Playa Caribe #5. We felt safe in this building and in the whole area. In fact, we traveled down to Tulum by colectivo with no problems at all.
Condo #5 is the center unit on the second floor. It was welcoming, comfortable and we felt very much at home. The kitchen was well stocked with all the utensils we needed. We appreciated being able to drink the water from the faucet. The whole condo was air conditioned, not just the bedrooms. There were books and games available. Also, a good selection of music.
I learned to snorkel in the pool, then ventured out into Half Moon Bay. We saw eagle rays, turtles and too many fish to name. The water was so warm and comfortable!
We enjoyed both of the restaurants right on HMB, just a short walk in the sand from the condo. Lucy's ice cream and shrimp tacos were a treat! Lots of good food to enjoy in the area.
I am looking forward to returning to #5 with my husband next summer.

We didn't know there were places like this left! Half Moon Bay is gorgeous, uncrowded and fabulous for snorkeling.
The view from Playa Caribe #5 (center unit on the second floor) is panoramic.
The staff is exceptionally good, especially agustin the office manager.
There are two good restaurants within 5 minutes of walking on the sand. Akumal Bay is a 20 minute walk from the condo and Yalku Lagoon is about 10 minutes in the other direction.
We loved this condo, the bay, everything about this wonderful place. I should mention that we drank the water right out of the tap. Where else can you do that in Mexico?
We plan to return next year to "our" condo on Half Moon Bay.

We had a great time learning to snorkel. We saw Sea turtles, parrot fish, rays, eels and many more beautiful corral dwellers. The lagoon was very fun to visit too. We only had to put on our suits and a 1 min. walk to the water. Afterwards, we ate fresh tropical fruit and drank margaritas! We loved it!

I had a wonderful time in Playa Caribe Condo #5 in akumal! The snorkeling right in front of the condo was fantastic. I saw sea turtles, flounders, rainbow parrot fish and much more. I even saw a green sea turtle come onto the beach to find a place to lay her eggs.
The condo was very comfortable, the bathrooms gorgeous and the kitchen was well stocked with utensils, plates, and pans. It was great to be able to drink the water right from the tap.
This is the place for a true, care-free vacation! -

This is the first time we have stayed at Playa Caribe #5. We heard about it from friends who have stayed there.
The view we had as we walked into the unit was breathtaking. We felt like we were embraced by Half Moon Bay.
The service was excellent, led by Agustin the office manager. He arranged transportation for us and answered all our questions. We had daily maid service, plus there was a night watchman on duty after hours.
The condo is the center unit on the second floor. The side units are a bit larger but do not have the view of Half Moon Bay from all windows.
We had everything we could have possibly wanted. There were games, books, DVDs, music.... We were comfortable in the condo and felt like it was ours. I wish it were!
We were in Half Moon Bay every day enjoying the incredible snorkeling. There were the turtles, of course, but our favorite was the spotted eagle rays. There is a beautiful painting in the condo that shows some of the most common HMB inhabitants.
We ate at La Lunita and La Buena Vida both a short walk in the sand from the condo. It was an easy walk the Lagoon and Akumal. We plan to return soon.
