My favorite home away from home

Left on 07/30/2012 for a stay in July 2012

Firstly, Akumal Direct and Marcia Kirby assist us each time we book a trip to the area and we are always very pleased with their expertise and extra attention to each detail. We feel well cared for and informed.

We have stayed in Casa Yamulkan before, but this trip was merely a day visit with luncheon and our group of 4 each offer a score of perfect 10 to our experience!

As we enjoyed use of the shady palapa area with loungers and hammocks, and kayaked out to the reef to snorkel, our hosts prepared a meal that we had pre-ordered from their online menu.
We hoped to have leftovers, to enjoy for future meals at our condo and we were completely blown away by the quantity of the food served. The quality of the meal most impressive!!

As far as staying at Casa Yamulkan...in my book there is no better location and we love this space. Both cozy and spacious with wonderful caretakers, who take very good care of the property and the visitors. We love the dogs on site and they seemed to remember us.
Solimon bay is dreamy, quiet, but never boring, with top notch snorkeling just outside your door.

bacon wrapped grilled shrimp, tamales, empanadas, and chile relleno beet and onion salad, ceviche!, salsa, Spaghetti with verde cream sauce and shrimp, Rice with veggies (in large pot) Nopales cactus salad, fruit salad, and not pictured...homeade donuts for dessert view from the palapa

The place is just the best in the Riviera Maya, for those looking for a balance between snorkling the reef, a good marguerita on the beach and being close to everything to see in the Mexican Caribean

      Casa Zaza Hil

Left on 01/04/2010 for a stay in December 2009

Overall it was a good experience. The location of the house to the water was perfect. There were some things that didn't live up to expectations. The toaster didn't work, the television didn't work-- these were unimportant. The wireless was spotty, sometimes non-existent and there were mosquitoes and sand fleas like crazy in the house. We had coils burning almost constantly. Everyone had bites everywhere. There were other bugs that were somewhat expected- a scorpion in a bathroom and roaches in the kitchen. The hammocks for the beach palapa weren't in place when we got there and we had to ask for them a couple of days later when we realized they should have been there.
The weather was quite nice and the quiet was wonderful. We enjoyed looking for hermit crabs in the evening, snorkeling and reading in the hammocks during the day. If we were to do this again, we would probably rent a beach house in Akumal beach since there are places to walk-- restaurants for instance.
The caretaker, Jerry, was very attentive and did his best to keep things going. We had him cook a meal one evening and thoroughly enjoyed it.
We read some of the books in the house and left a couple of ours behind.

An Easy and Excellent Vacation at Casa Yamulkan

Left on 04/18/2009 for a stay in January 2009

We recently stayed at Casa Yamulkan for a week after Christmas. The pictures on the internet do not do the house justice. The ocean is only steps away from the house, and the natural decor, from the seashell decorations and lovely thatched vaulted roof, provide a beautiful and relaxing transition from outdoors to indoors. We ate breakfast and lunch on the patio at the big table looking out onto Solimon Bay, which we likened to a giant saltwater swimming pool as it is so shallow. We swam, took the kayaks out and truly enjoyed the beautiful and serene private beach. There is a very handy outdoor shower on the patio so the sand was able to stay outside where it belongs!
We love to cook so we were delighted with the very well equipped kitchen. The “San Francisco” supermarket in Tulum was only a 10-minute drive and it had everything we needed. One night we hired Jerry, the caretaker/trained chef to cook for us and feasted on a delicious and very well priced authentic Mexican meal. We also used the barbeque for a fun night with our neighbours, dining on fresh fish bought from the market.
The well cared for house was always lovely and cool with just the ceiling fans on while we were there. The beds were very comfortable, the bathrooms and showers spacious with lots of hot water, and the satellite TV handy for our son the sports fan! One bathroom had grilled windows and a door so we could leave all our valuables locked up while we were away at one of our day trips.
We chose just a few of the many outings, as we were there primarily to relax on the beach and we want to save some things for our next visit! We had a great afternoon snorkeling in a nearby cenote and on another day drove to Coba to see the Mayan ruins. We have seen the ruins at Tulum on a previous trip, which I would also recommend.
I have rented houses through the internet before, and the customer service, information and instructions provided by Marcia at Akumal Direct were outstanding. There

This is a beautiful house right on a magnificent, quiet beach. It was perfect for our family of 6 adults and 5 children (ages 5 - 3 years). The snorkeling in the bay is amazing. The house is a 15 minute drive to Tulum. We all had a wonderful time and would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking to escape in paradise. We are already talking about coming back next year.

Left on 09/20/2008 for a stay in September 2008

The "swiss family robinson" house was great. The house dogs were not a problem for us, but I could see how someone might be bother. They ought to mentioned to other guests. Jere food was decilious, however a little expensive. If we had known more spanish we would have known what we were in for. Maybe a price list with the menu would be helpful. I would go back in a spilt seconds. Loved it, Cindy

We had a lovely time and great adventure. The property is wonderfully remote and private, yet close to shopping, tennis and golf. We were warmly welcomed by Jeramia and Rhett. Rhett checked in on us frequently and gave great information. Jeramia's caretaking of the house along with his wife Gisella was excellent. We all highly recommend his cooking. Two weeks was not enough time to enjoy the house and the beach. Sitting on the beach at night and enjoying the starry sky was unforgettable. Touring the Mayan ruins at Tulum is a must. Overall, one of our best vacations ever. Thanks to one and all, Marcia Kirby, Rhett, Jerimia, Gisella, hope I didn't leave anyone out.

A Wonderful Holiday in Soliman Bay

Left on 05/05/2008 for a stay in April 2008

Casa Yamulkan was perfect for our family. We loved the mexican feel of the decor, the beautiful palapa roof, the beach, the snorkeling, the kayaks. We liked the location on Soliman Bay and felt it was at a quieter end and a little less turtle grass to go through. Snorkeling and swimming in the bay was definitely a highlight. The caretaker was very helpful and the meals he cooked were fantastic. The location was far enough away from the business of Cancun and Playa Del Carmen, but close to many activities. A week was not enough to see and do all we would have liked. We'll be back.

We had a wonderful time at Casa Yamulkan. The house sits right on the beach and you have your own private palapa for shade. We spent many hours lounging in the palapa, walking along the beach, snorkeling, and paddling around in the sea kayak. Jeramias cooked a delicious dinner for us one evening. Don't miss Oscar y Lalo's restaurant!
