We have been to akumal several times and love the area. This time be traveled with a cousin & his wife. We rented a condo -La Sirena #8. It was a great location- right on the beach with the pleasent sound of the serf. No load music, no crowded beaches, just fantastic peace and quiet. There was no air conditioning in this condo but this in March there was a nice breeze. So aC was not needed. The snorkeling was not bad in front of the condo but better at the lagoon near by and over at akumal Bay. We rented a golf cart for the week so were able to go to and from the shops and resturants in the akumal area with ease. I was impress by akumal Direct Reservations & their representative Marcia Kirby. She was so helpful with golf cart rental, airport transfer and general questions about the condo & Akumal area.

33020quiet, relaxing condo with wonderful views

Overall had a wonderful experience staying at La Sirena. Marcia at akumal Direct was very helpful in finding a place that fit into my needs and budget. After booking the place, I received lots of information including thorough directions and information about the area. I knew I would be arriving into akumal after the normal check-in hours, but they were willing to accommodate my late arrival. I also appreciated they gave you the option of having maid service daily or at whatever interval you desired, as well as a preference for time of day.
The property itself is nicely landscaped and has a nice pool. Parking seemed to be at a premium, but never had a problem finding a spot. It's also in a quiet area a little ways away from main tourist area of akumal. Most of the restaurants are walking distance, but they offer bike rentals on site - it was $5/day or $30 for week. You can go snorkeling in Half Moon Bay from the property but the water is pretty shallow and there are quite a few sea urchins on the walk out. Even though I never went, Yal Ku Lagoon is walking distance.
The condo was nicely kept and not cluttered with kitsch as some vacation rentals can be. Enjoyed having coffee every morning and reading out on the balcony. The kitchen was nicely equipped with a toaster, coffee maker and blender. The one complaint I would have about this place is the overly firm bed that made it uncomfortable if you are a side sleeper. Other than that I would definitely choose to stay at La Sirena again.Response from Akumal Direct Reservations - 03/09/2012

It is nice to know that you felt the reservation process was handled professionally. Your complaint about the hard bed could have been resloved by on site management. They do have foam padding for the beds if requested. You were also welcome to email your reservationist Marcia Kirby during your stay. A very relaxing place - we loved it, sitting in our hammocks on the balcony, but be aware that there are many small level changes in the unit so not good for handicapped, it is a bit far if you plan on going in to Akumal proper a lot, and while we had perfect weather and did not need A/C (Mid feb) I would think it would be too hot in the summer.

The location was great as we could look out the window to see the water. The home was clean and in good shape. The sheets were a little worn, though. The rental management staff was helpful, although we didn't interact with them except for at check-in and check-out and one day we asked a question about renting movies.

We loved everything about this place. The view is stunning, even from the master bathroom and bedroom. The only thing I'd change is better fitting sheets on the bed. Staying there was the best part of our vacation.
