Really enjoyed our stay in this little casa. Dennis and Debbie were really helpful and friendly - they even us took us on a tour of the area on our first day so that we could get our bearings. We took daily dips in the beautiful little cenote opposite and spent plenty of time in the hammock and under the palapa, watching the birds and the resident iguana.

The cenote by the casa. Local iguana.

      Great location to explore from-

Left on 03/07/2013 for a stay in February 2013

Casa Buena Fortuna was clean and neat in a small neighborhood of several houses. It is in a great location to visit several beaches like Xcacel right across the highway, Akumal a short drive for snorkling and restaurants, and of course Tulum for the beautiful long beaches, great restaurants, banks and large grocery stores. Three Myan sites are a short dive away for a day trip. Chemuyil is a very short drive and has two good local restaurants.
Dennis was very helpful with the reservations and drove us around the area pointing out beaches, good restaurants, banks and grocery stores. We ate morning breakfast in the back yard under the palapa and cooled off in the cenote right across the street. All in all a great place to stay and begin our daily adventure. It was a great "anti all inclusive" and experience the real Mexico!!

      great family vacation spot

Left on 03/06/2013 for a stay in April 2011

We stayed at Casa Buena Fortuna for 16 days and had a wonderful time. We came with our then 2-1/2 year old and 7 week old sons. It was perfect! The house is simple but well maintained, and close to a lovely and untouristed beach and right across the street from a small cenote. The kitchen is pretty bare bones, but we were able to make simple meals and enjoy them outside under the palapa. Its a relatively short drive to either Tulum or akumal, and we drove to those towns for nicer meals although there were some decent, family-run restaurants in Chemuyil as well. We have such fantastic memories of this trip and plan to return soon!

If you have tried the all-inclusives and want to experience something a little more real, come to Chan-Chemuyil! It is a 10 min walk to a very quiet beach, and once you walk back, take a swim in the cenote that is right across the road from your casa. This little house is clean, cool and comfortable. The kitchen is small but workable. The outside space is great...have a cool drink under your own palapa!

      Relaxing vacation and beautiful beaches

Left on 09/22/2012 for a stay in August 2012

This was our first trip to Mexico, and we were not disappointed. The Casa was small by american standards, but was cute, well equipped and met our needs. We did minimal cooking and eat most of our meals on the Palapa; this is walled terrace and very private. It was hot and very humid when we were there in mid-August, but the air conditioning in the bedroom kept us comfortable. We felt very safe in the neighborhood and everyone was very friendly. We don't speak any Spanish, but found that most people speak some English. We spent most of our time at the beaches in akamal. We went to Xcacel beach two of the days; you can walk following a path from the Casa, but have to cross a very busy highway. We chose to drive the second time and pay a very small parking fee. The water at all of the beaches was warm and beautiful. We did some snorkeling from the shore and saw some interesting fish and marine life. We did some sight seeing and shopping in Tulum, but the heat made these short trips for us. We visited Xcaret park one day, and would recommend this for a change of pace. We rented a car at the Cancun airport, and it was very easy to find our way around. Our favorites were the beaches and restaurants in akamal; La Buena Vida is at the top of our list! This beachside bar and restaurant has lounge chairs, hammocks, a cool tree house, great atmosphere, food and service. Drinks during happy hour are half price, and a couple of times we spent the whole afternoon there. The Molnars are gracious hosts, and their hospitality and helpful information made our vacation very enjoyable.

Location, location, etc. You are within minutes from the most beautiful beach in Mexico, your own private playground almost every day. Walk out your front door into the most amazing cenote. Clear water, cool water, amazing place to relax.

the rental casa has an amazing feel. Your feel for a neighborhood is immediate. Well appointed, clean as a whistle, all of the small things that make you feet at home, not to mention the glorious outside porch.

      great house for a family

Left on 06/13/2011 for a stay in April 2011

We stayed in the house for 16 days. It was myself and my husband, and two kids (including a 10 week old baby). We loved the house! It is close to a lovely beach which is not crowed at all, steps from a small cenote, and a short drive from other cenotes. The town is very friendly, and it was great not being stuck in some tourist trap resort. The kitchen was pretty basic, but perfect for having breakfast before heading out for the day, and for snacks and simple meals, which was exactly what we were looking for.

Hidden Gem in the real Mexico

Left on 05/11/2011 for a stay in February 2011

My wife and I had a fantastic vacation and really enjoyed our stay at Casa Buena Fortuna. Let me start off by saying that we have stayed at many of the all inclusive resorts on the Mayan Riviera. But this trip was the first time we really experienced what the real Mexico in this area is like! The little community of Chan Chemuyil is made up of very colorful vacation homes that are owned mostly by Canadians and americans. The little Pueblo of Chemuyil which is a convenient 10 minute walk away is a true Mayan village with small stores, restaurants, internet cafes. We had a rental car which made it real convenient to visit all the local ruins, cenotes and other attractions. The casa was more than we expected! It has a lovely landscaped yard that was in full bloom. The property is totally enclosed by a wall which provided privacy. The furnishings were comfortable and the casa was equipped with everything you would need to enjoy your stay. The palapa was really nice to seat under and have breakfast in the morning or a cool drink in a shady spot in the afternoon. There is a small fresh water cenote you can swim in right next to the casa. It is a good place to rinse off when you return from the beach. One of the best parts of the whole vacation was Xcacel Beach which is right across the highway from Chan Chemuyil. You can drive over and park for free or walk over. The path to the beach starts right outside the front door of the casa. If you walk it is about ¼ mile and takes about 10 minutes. You do have to cross the highway but we never had a problem. We have been too many beaches in Mexico but this beach has to be one of the best! Most of the time you have the whole place to yourself. It has pure white soft sand with a sandy ocean bottom. There is a great place for snorkeling at the north end of the beach. Dennis the owner was very helpful in answering our questions and showing us around the area. We defiantly plan to return and highly recommend Casa Buena Fortuna.

      Go Native Comfortably!

Left on 02/03/2011 for a stay in January 2011

Casa Buena Fortuna is a charming get away house, owned by an terrific american host, in a relatively safe, expat community. Naturally, at just over $100 a night, the greatest value of this 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom place would be realized by a friendly group of 4.

      Huge pluses:

      1. The lovely walled garden with outside dining facilities under a genuine thatched roof, surrounded by flowering plants. A full kitchen which allows "at home" snacking and even full meal preparation.

      2. The beautiful scuba diveable cenote, and a jungle path within 100 feet of the front gate. Another cenote is a block away. Several species of exotic birds come to call daily, and cute, curious Coati Mundi play at the edges of the jungle.

      3. A lovely jungle secluded beach park, with a popular swimming cenote, is just a 10 minute walk.

      4. Location! Location! Location! The famous coastal Mayan ruins of Tulum are but a 15 minutes drive South. While, upscale and beautiful akumal with great snorkeling and wonderful La Buena Vida beach bar and restaurant is only 15 minutes North. The night life of booming Playa Del Carmen (the new Cancun) is only 30 minutes North.

      5. The owner, Dennis Molnar, is a terrific host who is very knowledgeable about the area. He clued us in on the best places to eat, visit and snorkel off the tourist track. . . saving us money, and making our travels more authentic.

We highly recommend renting this nice house for a casual visit to the less crowded, more traditional Yucatan.

We had the best time ever at this cozy, tropical rental. We stayed 10 weeks and got to know everyone in the quaint little town. A beautiful cenote right out our front door. A palapa and garden to zen out and the most incredible beach just a hop skip and jump. (Don't bring valuables to the beach!!!)
Dennis was a great host and even planted 4 palm trees on the property while we were there. Great value and really nice casa. The Mayan coast is all at your doorstep from this place!!! Hope to be back soon.

Beautiful casa with a tropical yard and great location!

Left on 09/09/2010 for a stay in March 2010

I stayed in the house with a few family members last winter. The home is in a small residential community that is frequented by primarily us and Canadian citizens. My family felt very safe here and loved the proximity to the beautiful beach across the street (about a 10 min walk). The house was clean, welcoming and comfortable. The outdoor area is enclosed and private with a beautiful palapala and flowering bushes and plants. Across the street is a large cenote (natural water spring) that you can swim in. The house is located within walking distance of a small town with a few reatuarants and convience stores. We frequented frivin to akumal (5 min drive) and Tulum (15 min drive) to enjoy the many resturants and attractions nearby. I would recommend the house as perfect for a family with children or 4 adults. The rental process was very easy and the owner was able to answer all of my questions and concerns before we arrived. If you are looking for a great value and fabulous location, this house is perfect for you ;)
