      Unit # 14

Left on 05/24/2012 for a stay in March 2012

Was pleasant to deal with and management company was helpful. Unit was dated and there are other units in the same complex for the same price or less that have been updated extensively.

Breathtaking views of Half-Moon Bay in akumal and a fresh swimmi

Left on 05/11/2012 for a stay in May 2012

Sirena is a beautiful group of condos and houses in North akumal. In the center is a very nice swimming pool that is surrounded by a lush tropical garden and is partly shaded by coconut trees.
The Sirena 14 unit is at the third floor and the views (from the terrace, living room and dining room) over Half-Moon Bay were just spectacular!
We found it to have ample space for our small family, the two king-sized beds were very comfortable and the kitchen was large and fully equiped.
The service from the local staff at Playa Paradise was just wonderful.
Sirena sits right in front of the reef so snorkeling is great.
We were sorry not to have taken water shoes with us because the beach right in front of Sirena is rocky.
There is no elevator so if you have any disability or trouble going up the stairs consider asking for one of the Sirena houses instead.

The view will blow you away!

Left on 04/12/2012 for a stay in April 2012

Let me just start by saying that the photos of this condo do not exaggerate! The 180-degree view from the living room floor-to-ceiling window is stunning, as is the view from the balcony. La Sirena is on the far end of Half Moon Bay, the next bay over from the more popular (and crowded) Akumal Bay and beach. If you want a peaceful place to call home, but easy access to the delights of the Riviera Maya, this is the place.

Unit #14 is on the top floor of this very small condo building. It is right on the bay, fronted by a small man-made sand beach. Getting to the condo from the parking area, you walk through a beautiful courtyard lush with tropical plants surrounding a lovely pool. It has two king-bed bedrooms and two full bathrooms with showers. The living area is large and open and the kitchen well-stocked with a microwave, gas oven/stovetop, toaster, coffee-maker, pots, pans, utensils, etc. We ate many meals at the condo, simply because we didn't want to leave our view!

Some specifics: La Sirena is reached by a rough mile-long road that winds around the bays. You need a car to get around, or at the very least, a golf cart (which can be rented for about $40/day) or a bike ($5/day). The unit is reached by three flights of steps, no elevator. You need to be fit enough to lug your stuff up and down the stairs. The master bedroom has a floor-to-ceiling double windowed door, which can open to the ocean view. I loved the open view, though I found it tricky to get dressed with an opposite gender child roaming around -- the glass is darkened and there is a sheer curtain, but you don't have complete privacy. The master bedroom's bathroom is also open to the bedroom, with a glass block wall that peters out toward the top, creating another kind of privacy issue altogether. You also have to co-exist with tiny ants in the kitchen, even if you make a supreme effort to close up every box, bag and package of food. Lap swimmers need to know that the so-called lap lane of the pool is a graduated depth, so halfway down the lane, it becomes too shallow to stroke. Even so, I wouldn't pass over this condo because of these things. The view makes up for everything!

The condo is enviably situated a minute's walk from Yal-Ku Lagoon, a fantastic place to snorkel, and close to akumal Beach, where you can snorkel with sea turtles. There is no reason to snorkel in Half Moon Bay itself, as the tide is strong and the bay shallow and rocky, so nothing much swims around out there. Anywhere you go -- Yal-Ku, Akumal Beach, Mayan ruins -- get there early! I can't stress this enough. Busloads of tourists start streaming in by 10 a.m. and your experience will be entirely different if you're competing with the hordes. We were up by 7 a.m. most mornings and arriving at places by 8 a.m. It's exhausting, but well worth the effort. We enjoyed being able to return to this beautiful condo after a morning out, relax for a few hours, and then head out again after the day had cooled down a bit.

The condo is managed by Playa Paradise just down the road. Enrique Torres was great -- he and his staff answered all our questions, relayed our housekeeping needs swiftly, and gave us computer access to check in for our flight home. I dealt directly with the extremely nice owner of the unit, having gotten to her condo from a post on vrbo.com for a neighboring unit. Everything went off without a hitch. The unit is serviced every day, or less often, if you wish. And they do a thorough job... the woman who cleaned our unit spent close to two hours each day cleaning, doing dishes, changing linens, etc. You'll want to schedule housekeeping for times you'll think you'll be out and about.

Bottom line: This is a fantastic getaway spot if you like to be away from the crowds but want easy access to the sights you came to see. You won't want to leave!

      The perfect location!

Left on 03/10/2012 for a stay in February 2012

We traveled with another couple to this beautiful condo. Both rooms have king beds, so no worrying who gets the bigger bed! If we left a tip each day, the maid did he dishes, awesome! It may not be a luxury condo, but the service and beach access is better then over-the-top decor. The location is perfect. We spent most of our time sitting on the beach right in front of the condo (Half-moon Bay). Once or twice a day we would venture out to snorkel. Some days, after an amazing breakfast in town at Turtlebay Bakery we would lay on akumal Beach. We loved that there were no venders hassling us on the beach and the snorkeling was great there too. We rented a car, which was really nice to have and worth the extra money. Dos Ogos is the cenote to visit! So amazing. We plan to visit again!!!
