      Villa Gauguin

Left on 01/28/2013 for a stay in January 2013

This is an amazing house, but you should know the 5th bedroom has no closet or bathroom although there is a half-bath (toilet) just outside the door. It would be okay for teenagers or young adults, but they will need to use the shower in someones room. It's the only bedroom downstairs so it's not good for young children. We rent the house as a 4BR and all is good. There is no beach but the ocean is "right there" and most beautiful to look at. You get the morning sun, which we love, but by early afternoon the pool and patio are in shade, again, we love this! The on-site care tenders are wonderful and prepare a beautiful dinner!

Overall the renatal experience was very good...the home itself was very nice...but needed a few repairs on a few of the features...The Master Bath shower had a leak preventing the hot water from reahing the faucet...Francisco the care taker fixed it quickly...also Francisco and his wife Gladys cooked for us twice...the meals they provided were some of the best we've ever had had while in Mexico...

      Perfect Spot

Left on 11/20/2011 for a stay in October 2011

Stayed 10 days with 9 people. Our major concern was overcrowding. At 6300 square feet we were all very comfortable. The location in akumal is perfect, although, after 8 years of travelling there at least once a year, I am not overly objective. Out ot the 9 people who went down, none were prior renters, all hotel/all inclusive types. Most were very hesitant, now they won't quit talking about it. There was a review about it being "run down", keep in mind it is the ocean sorrounded by the jungle. Maintenance is a constant battle, and Gauguin does well.

      Pros:
      1. Pool 2. Rooms were nice and large, with three having ocean views. 3. Private, one side is an empty lot, the other side another house that is obviously used little. 4. Staff, we are private people and they honored our wish to not be disturbed with cleaning, however, they were available when we needed them. They were courteous and professional. 5. Booking, I booked through Doug at Brisa Caribe, he was great to work with. 6. If something did not work or we could not figure it out they were right there to help. 7. There is a little walkway to get into the lagoon, the pics are accurate but don't let the rocks fool you, you can get in and enjoy it safely.

      Cons:
      1. The downstairs bedroom does not have a seperate bath, there is one just outside the door, but no shower. Considering there are four others it is really not a con, just a note.
      2. You will either want to rent a car (we had 3 and there was plenty of space for them), or a bicycle. Otherwise, you are 3/4 to a mile from the main area of akumal, although the walk is relaxing. Bicyles from Vista Del Mar go for around 35 per week.
      3. Wifi is lacking, they really need a booster, we only had access in the dining room.

      Do!
      1. Eat at La Buena Vida, (happy hour is great) and Turtle Bay Cafe (we eat here for breakfast and dinner often, they take their business seriously)
      2. Take a short fishing trip at akumal Dive Shop (next to La Buena Vida) fun guys to hang with, they work hard to make sure you get a catch, it's dirt cheap and they filet it for you. Then have the staff at Gauguin cook it up for you.
      3. Snorkel, do the lagoon, Half Moon Bay and akumal Bay. each is different.
      4. Go to the pueblo across the road, have dinner or lunch,
5 Visit the ecological center, learn about the local area.

      Definiton of "Paridise"= Gauguin

Left on 06/20/2011 for a stay in June 2011

I couldn't of asked for a more perfect father's day with my family than this placed offered. The views were breath taking, the staff and service was amazing, and the house was in luxurious condition.

Every morning the dishes were done, sheets were fresh, and the house was clean. Best part about it was, the staff stay out of your way and you never even know they are cleaning. We did have a problem with one air conditioner not working, we had an new one installed later that day. They offer a menu and will cook Breakfast/Dinner for you. You provide the ingredients and for a small fee ($35us for a family of 6) they will prepare, cook, and clean up. It was amazing. It was like having a restuarant in your house. Gladys and Fransico are the reason this house is so amazing.

You cannot put into words what the views are like. Every room but two wakes up to the most beuatiful and breathtaking sunrise in the world. Not only are the views wonderful, but they face the Yal-ku lagoon. With a 30 second walk over the rocks you are entered into the best snorkling in akumal. We saw Rays, Turtles, Barracuda, Conch, Tarpon and a wide variety of all other reef fish. My 11 year old grandson learned how to snorkle on this trip and now is addicted. The lagoon is sheltered and stays calm. Really good for the beginner.

Paridise: place or state of perfect happiness. If this is what you are looking for, look no further, because you have found it.

      Perfection!

Left on 04/07/2011 for a stay in March 2011

Let's start off by saying that Francisco and Gladys were some of the most helpful and lovely people people we met on this trip. The home was in beautiful condition in terms of cleanliness and up keep. Every morning the dishes were done, sheets changed and the entire house was cleaned. They were also very helpful with suggestions and directions.
The location of the villa is perfect, it was off the main road and was extremely quiet. Waking up to the sunrise over the lagoon is a view that is tough to beat. Wearing water shoes, the walk to the lagoon is easy and entertaining while watching the iguanas on the rocks. In the lagoon we saw turtles, rays and numerous fish.
The home was stocked with purified water, an immense welcome fruit basket with numerous other goodies. The pool was in great shape and the grounds were perfectly manicured.
The villa was well worth the price for the value received!!! The Caretaker and Maid, better known as Francisco and Gladys, were always hard working, quiet while working in the morning, and adorned with a smile and a Buenos Dias. They are far from lazy with all the work they do! Francisco and Gladys made for a perfect week in a perfect villa. The villa and the people are the reason vacations in Mexico are perfect!

      Best accomodations and staff ever

Left on 04/07/2011 for a stay in March 2011

I've vacationed in Mexico about a dozen times and have stayed at some very exclusive resorts and properties. Villa Gauguin surpassed all of them in terms of cleanliness, safety, customer service, location and scenic beauty.

The staff is wonderful. From the moment we drove up to the home, we were greeted with a friendly and helpful smile. The kitchen was cleaned every day. Climbing into a freshly-washed set of sheets each evening was a luxury our entire group enjoyed. Having an endless supply of filtered water in the kitchen was a welcome bonus that shows how much the staff and owners care about their customers. The pool and grounds around the building were immaculate. The location is great - several snorkeling spots are accessible by walking a few yards along the rocks behind the property.

I couldn't recommend Villa Gauguin or its wonderful staff highly enough. Thank you for a wonderful vacation!

Left on 02/21/2011 for a stay in February 2011

The house was is so-so condition, run down, dirty windows, appliances on their last leg. Many tiles missing from the pool and our daughter got a very deep cut the first day there, which would have required stitches if it was not for crazy glue! Light bulbs out, yard was not well maintained as we would expect of a house of such grandeur and expense. We were not impressed by the caretaker or maid. Dishes were only done once in the morning, so ants were everywhere. Their kids left rocks all over the patio from playing. We ordered breakfast one day, not cheap and for some reason charged to go to Playa de Carmen when there is a Super Cheduari right up the road. We had alot of fresh squeezed juice left (delicious!)...came to get it later and it was gone! Bread would go missing as well? Overall, we all felt we got the impression we were interrupting these folks living down stairs, very strange. I think at one time they were motivated but have gotten lazy with their responsibilities. House was in a great location, views were terrific. Would not recommend anyone to stay however due to expense versus value.
