Don't let the big discount scare you! We lived in Akumal full-time for 24 years, owned 6 different properties and rented out many villas over those years. By far, Villa Solymar is our favorite one! And we felt perfectly safe there...no problem!
The main villa is 3 bedrooms/3.5 baths (2 king beds, 2 twin beds) with a max. occupancy of 6. The guesthouse (or "casita") has one guest apartment with a king bed, bathroom and kitchen which sleeps 2. (Total occupancy: 6-8 See rates)

Akumal is located just one hour and ten minutes south of Cancun on the Mexican Caribbean coastline of the Yucatan Peninsula. It has long been a secret getaway, discovered only by those who dared to travel down the coastline in search of adventure. We've been traveling to akumal for over 20 years and have rented a number of different properties. By far, this is our most favorite home to rent in all of akumal. It's now become part of us and wish we didn't have to leave to head back to the states. We''ve rented the house for the past three years and are looking to go back next year. From the moment we contacted the rent the house, Kelly Flynn was so fantastic in terms of the rental process and answering any questions we had. Also, the house itself is unbelievable. So comfortable and more than we ever expected. Also, the house staff (Nidia and Luis) are both so welcoming and do such a great job taking care of us and the house. The location is fantastic. Just a 5 minute walk to town and 5 minute walk to La Buena Vida. Having the golf cart is a bonus and we always rent a few bikes too. We can't say enough about our experience. Akumal is a very safe town and you can't go wrong renting this property.

Our recent vacation at Villa Solymar was wonderful. There were 8 adults and a toddler and we all had wonderful sleeping accomodations. Sleeping at night with the sound of the ocean and the wonderful breeze renewed our spirits. We enjoyed the pool and walked to the beach daily. We loved the town of akumal! Everyone was so friendly and we felt absolutely safe at all times. There are several great restaurants and Nidia's (the housekeeper) cooking was delicious also. Definitely let her cook for you! "Lime soup" is the best! We enjoyed sight seeing in Tulum and Chichen Itza. All in all, everyone had a wonderful time. We highly recommend akumal and Villa Solymar!

We had the good fortune to stay at Villa Solymar for 2 weeks. Our group consisted of seniors, active adults and 3 teens. Everyone said it was the best vacation they had ever had! The house is gorgeous, the view unbeatable, the location is the best. There is so much to do and we tried to do it all! But you can't! Happily, we will have to go back :) The house is totally private with a warm lovely pool that overlooks the ocean. Nidia is an amazing cook, Luis keeps the place perfect. Akumal is small village which is charming and safe. There are wonderful restaurants and dive shops. Great snorkeling in all of the bays. Tulum beaches are crazy beautiful, the marine life was awesome. We swam with whale sharks and saw turtles laying eggs by the light of a full moon. We cannot wait to go back

Great time..Priced right. Sunny everyday.Staff very helpful and cooked great meals. Super to have pool but wish could swim in ocean right in front of house. Beach not far..short golf cart ride away! Lots of marine life to see right there at the ocean. Great snorkeling at the lagoon close by. Would stay there again!! House was wonderful!

Sorry to take so long to write this review. Sue and I are busy planning our next trip back to akumal to look at property. This is out 4 thime in the Riviera Maya but first stay (4th visit) in akumal and loved it. The area is so laid back and relaxing but great for those that like to be active and to see the natural nd cultural wonders of the Yucatan.
Sue and I spent this vacation with our 2 daughters in their 20s and the SOs who we proceeded to wear out with trips to Tulum, Coba and Sian Ka'an. Even the "chill out" days were filled with snorkeling with our turtle friends in akumal Bay or watching them nest on Jade Bay Beach.
Solymar was the perfect place for a family vacation. It had everything and was beautifully appointed with everythign you could want. Luis took fabulous care of the grounds and Nidia kept the inside spotless. We unfortunatrely did not get to take advantage of Nidia's cooking as I love to cook for family on vacation. The lacation was perfect right in between akumal Bay and Half Moon Bay. To see the morning sun rise I did not have to lift my head from the pillow. The pool is sunny in the morning while enjoying morning coffee and the waves crashing. It is very shaded in the afternoon which is nice after a day in the hot sun.
The kitchen was well equipper and had everything you could want. Luis brought pastries from Turtle Bay Bakery a few days. They even stocked the kitchen with milk, jiuce, fresh mangos and pinapple and eggs prior to arrival. The golf cart was very conveniet for tooling arounf akumal and for trips to snorkel in Ya Kul. We love akumal and love Solymar and would definitely recommended it for a family or group of friends. You will not be disappointed.

I go to akumal each year with a group of friends and we always stay at Villa Solymar. The accommodations are first class and everything we want in a vacation. Solymar is located on the beach and has beautiful views. There is fun in the sun by the pool or relax in the shade under the deck. Each bedroom has its own bath and the layout of the house insures complete privacy. Surrounded by lush greenery, the house has much privacy. It is located close to shops, golfing, restaurants and local points of interest. We enjoy being in a safe area away from the hustle of crowded tourist areas and just enjoying all that Mexico has to offer in akumal. We look forward to our visit at Solymar every year.

Our Winter vacation at Villa Solymar was just perfect! The villa itself was located on the beach so that it caught the wonderful breezes, and seemed very private. Our massages on the upper deck, open to the breeze, were like heaven. The little village of akumal had just enough amenities such as wonderful restaurants, shopping, and water activities, that were within walking distance of the villa.The staff at the villa was friendly and efficient. I really liked getting to see the "real" life in Mexico, and getting away from big cities. There were also many places to visit for Mayan culture, or water adventures that were short distances from akumal. I am recommending Villa Solymar to all of my friends.

We went to Villa Solymar with 3 couples and 4 kids (including an infant) and we had a great time. the house is gorgeous. Each of the 3 bedrooms have their own full baths, so no one is left with a lesser suite to stay in. The set up is kind of different in that the two upper bedrooms are accessed by going outside on an open air patio...so they are very private from the main living space below, which for us was a plus because one of the couples had no kids and therefore weren't bothered by our early morning noise. The pool is great...we spent many happy morning, afternoon, and evening hours swimming in it and enjoying the endless ocean views. Everything we needed in terms of cooking and being comfortable were there. The staff is incredibly helpful, cutting up fruit for us in the mornings and helping with any requests...we don't usually have someone helping "keep house" at home so it was a real treat to have the housework taken care of...a true vacation. We also hired Nidia to cook for us a couple nights and that was a nice treat as well. For us the location was great too. The akumal beach is really nice and kid friendly. We did a quick drive down to Tulum for another day of sunning and swimming. The snorkeling at the reserve nearby was also great and you can rent little cabanas so you can hang out all day. Really you can't go wrong at Villa Solymar...if we could we'd return every year to just relax and have fun.

Our stay at Villa Solymar made our visit to akumal an amazing vacation! There is nothing more breathtaking than entering the front door and seeing the royal blue Caribbean Sea waves splash onto the shore. This spectacular view will mesmerize you! From sunrise to sunset the best place on akumal is Villa Solymar's poolside! Inside,the villa is spacious and very clean and comfortable. Villa solymar is an excellent choice if traveling with a large family or several couples. The bedrooms are very roomy and provide lots of privacy. It is so relaxing closing your eyes to the sound of the waves. You'll fall in love with Nidia and Luis, the Villa staff and want to take them home with you! It's great fun to stay in one night and treat yourself to a catered meal prepared and served by Nidia. Need another float in the pool?- just ask Luis and he shall get some for you! The Villa is easily accesible to dining, beach bars, beach, snorkeling and water activities,and shopping. Driving the golf cart makes getting around the village easy and fun. You will meet fun and friendly people in akumal and always feel safe. We cannot wait to treat ourselves to a return visit to Villa Solymar in akumal, Mexico!
