Walk out the door to Yal Ku Lagoon. View of the caribbean sea and Yal Ku lagoon from one of three terraces on ocean side or inhale the jungle view from the other side. Expansive space with full gourmet kitchen, a friendly Maya couple, will cook meals for you. Gardens provide cocos, banana and papaya trees, birds, butterflys and the occassional iguana and plenty of flora. This property is not only private but close to the heart of Akumal where restaurants and two beautiful beaches add to the unique vacation experience.

Akumal is one of the oldest resorts along the Caribbean Coast established in 1959. The unique feel established by the original bungalows and villas built in the 1960's and 1970's has created a quiet resort that has become a landmark attraction for many visitors to the Maya Riviera. Akumal boasts some of the best snorkeling opportunities. Yal Ku lagoon and the bays of Akumal's two beaches. Akumal is a more authentic and sustainable alternative, to the all inclusive packaged vacation. Pedro & Octaviana the custodians of the property have worked and lived in Akumal for 21 years. They have raised their family and maintained Casa Christensen' as the ultimate beach home it was designed to be in 1979. Cultural appreciation can be found throughout the Casa Library and artwork of carvings, tapestry and prints found thorughout the home set the feel of the culture and location of this villa. This is not only a unique and beautiful home but, it is also a comfortably relaxed place to vacation with family and friends.
In the last year Que Onda restaurant has moved towards becoming Ondarte artist retreat. This property directly in front of Casa Christensen, gives artists a chance to explore the resident artists work, and a show is held for the public at the end of each month. There are weekly dining opportunities still available from Maribelle's Swiss Italian kitchen.
Since Casa Christensen is situated on the mouth of Yal Ku lagoon, where it meets the Caribbean Sea, the view is not only beautiful, but wonderful for snorkeling right out the front door. Should guests wish to stroll down the street and pay to enter the lagoon they can have access to docks and platforms for a very easy entry to the lagoon. Most opt to swim into the lagoon from the front door, but for some people the platform offers safety and comfort.
There is a wonderful little restaurant about a five minutue walk from the villa called La Lunita. It is located inside a condo building called La Tortuga. This quiet but elegant restaurant is situated on the beach of half moon bay and has many wonderful food specialties daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner.(throughout the high season)
Turtle Bay Cafe has a delicious breakfast menu, or you can purchase baked goods to go. They also provide dinner most nights of the week. In this central area of Akumal there are also a few more options for dinning. La Concina Economica-located beside the Super Chomack Grocery Store provides great egg dishes, and sandwiches and lunch specials. Their Chili Relleno is excellent. You will even get a lesson if it is not too busy.
La Cueva de Pescador offers good drinks and plenty of sea food dishes including fresh ceviche, grilled fish etc. They have established themselves as one of the top places to get a margaritta and often the traveling musicians can be found in this sand floor location located in Cento Ukana Plaza off the main entrance roadway.
The grand restaurant of Akumal, which is worth at least one visit while in town is Loh Ha. This establishement is family run and provides entertainment three times a week. New Vegan Menu options have been added and their food is always delicious and consistent. The Loh Ha beach bar is a local watering hole and is situated on the main beach of Akumal. The Pizza from the Loh Ha Beach bar is very good but if you are feeling more adventurous a trip to Cheymuil for Leo's Pizzeria is always a fun outting.

We have stayed at this house three times, and have stayed in two other nearby houses in akumal. This house is the best! We had a family reunion there and it was so nice to be there with all our memories of past vacations. The house has a lot of privacy and feels essentially the same as it always did. The internet is new however! It was so nice during this busy Christmas week to be in such a private and quiet setting. The photographs speak for themselves as so what to expect. Eating breakfast outside on the patio is just the best. Octaviana made a wonderful meal for us. This is an exceptionally wonderful place!

What a great place to steal away for a week...or more. We've stayed twice at this wonderful home and are headed back a third time this fall. There's so much to say:
- The house is spacious, and ideal for larger groups
- The housekeepers Pedro and Octaviana are there to help with whatever you need, and take care of you like family. Octaviana's salsa might be the best we have ever had.
- The house is a short swim away from the lagoon where we have some beautiful fish and incredible sea turtles. The first year the water was choppy and the open water swim provided a great workout. Last year it was very calm and we were able to snorkel right from the back of the house. Stingrays and other sea creatures abound
- The house is pretty secluded, but is the perfect location when you really need to get away. There are actually some fantastic restaurants within walking distance - La Luna is one of the best and is only 10 minutes away
Rent this house if you are looking for a peaceful getaway, on your own time and pace. Those who love to swim will find this to be an ideal location for incredible warm waters.

Thanks Janelle. It is so true that every visit brings new features...be it the weather on the lagoon or a restaurant opening. This year Que Onda just in front of Casa Christensen opened an art retreat and they hold monthly art shows the restaurant is often open. La Lunita is still one of the best private restaurants along the beach. I am sure you will have another great trip this year! :))

Situated right on the water at the mouth of Yal Ku lagoon, casa Christensen is an ideal place for a vacation. Every morning we would sit and watch the sunrise from the palapa style porch and then share a beer in its shade in the afternoon. The well equipped kitchen was perfect for any meal and we cooked often during the week. The housekeeper cooked for us a couple of times. Those meals were ample and terrific. Our group of seven had plenty space and privacy and all the rooms were cleaned and made up daily. If you don't want to cook there is a fun little restaurant steps from the driveway called "Que Onda". The house stayed cool partly due to its "hobbit" like construction and partly due to to wonderful ocean breezes that seemed to be ever present. There is a large library of books so reading materials are endless. I was worried about vacation in Mexico with all the negative press in the States... Let me say, every local we came in contact with was pleasant and friendly. I always felt safe. Really, the worst part was having to leave.

Wow! The water and Ocean breezes are the keys here. They beckon you with intense color and ever present sound! The house is situated to experience the water in every possible way. You feel immediately at home knowing that a great meal awaits at the end of the driveway ( Cafe Onda) or from the well equipped kitchen or the skilled hand of Octaviana! Stay as long as you can! Bring your friends!
