186338No room service...as you don't need it!
Left on 02/10/2012 for a stay in January 2012
I wanted to stay in a place where i wasnt bombarded by the door bell ringing by hotel staff re servicing the room, delivering food etc...this villa promised privacy...however, i was disappointed as the owners home overlooked the pool/sun lounger area which was a bit invasive..I didn't feel comfortable nor my partner sunbathing or being romantic when the neighbours could see from their balcony. The open air shower/bathroom is lovely at first sight but very impratical, as we felt embarrassed using the facilities when we could hear the adjacent cottage guests having breakfast over the adjoining wall. i don't think they would would want to hear me gurgling and flushing the toilet when they were enjoying their meal. Staff are friendly and the property is very clean. defo a respite from hotels. definately would go back..but the mozzies are big and the flying cockroaches are a bit scary, but adds to the fun. of going to the loo in the middle of the night. food is great and love the fact you can cook if you want to..

BrightonPure heaven!
Left on 01/06/2011 for a stay in August 2010
We had travelled in India the previous year and were keen to head back to the serene tranquility of the south. We'd spent a blissful few days on a houseboat in the Kerala backwaters - a must for any visitor to this area - and felt that it would be the perfect place to relax before heading up to Nepal to do some trekking.
We were picked up from the airport, given cool drinks and were driven in an air-conditioned car to Marari Beach. Please don't be put off by this distance. Although it does take a couple of hours, we sat back and enjoyed the incredible experience of seeing India rush past our eyes.
Greeted by Olga, Rupert and their wonderful team, we were shown around the clean and comfortingly contemporary cottage. A bedroom which opens out onto a lovely graden (complete with hammocks), a beautiful private pool, an outdoor bathroom, a comfortable bed, tv, dvds, books, internet and even access to a local mobile phone. It even has its own kitchen - which I guarantee you won't be using once! We settled in and heard the gentle tinkling of a bell - the sign that our own chef had prepared a meal for us. The food is divine! Unlike the more powerful curries found in the north, here subtlty is the key. Coconut is a key ingredient in this region and the ever surprising combination of spices and fresh vegetables compliment it beuatifully. Throughout the week every dish is lovingly prepared - by the utterly charming and incredibly talented chef - according to your tastes. Find out what your favourite dish is and you can even learn how to make it if you request a cooking lesson! On our last night we were served a wedding banquet fit for royalty. We are certainly not foodies but would find ourselves lying beside the pool dreaming of the delights awaiting us at the next meal.
The staff simply cannot do enough to ensure your stay is as perfect as it could possibly be. As we arrived during a festival, Maria, the housekeeper, and her young daughter spent hours making a beautiful design out of fresh petals on the porch. Olga and Rupert even lent us their bikes so that we could spend a few hours exploring the local countryside. This is an unforgettable experience - children ran along, giggling their hellos beside us and people waved from the fields. Everyone is so friendly here.
The beach is a five minute walk from the cottage. It stretches out endlessly in both directions so it's easy to spend hours losing yourself in its splendor.
Regretfully, the week passed all too quickly. We said our said farewells and were given a bag of local treats for our onward journey. Yet another sign of how thoughtfully guests are regarded here.
I cannot speak too highly of this wonderful place. Don't hesitate to book a holiday here! -

LondonBlissful time at Marari Beach
Left on 04/23/2010 for a stay in March 2010
After a hectic year we arrived at Marari Villas only wishing to relax on the shore that promised all the pleasures of one of Kerala’s undiscovered beaches. But it turned out that we arrived at the most amazing of them all. It was such a wonderful feeling of being alone on an endless white sand beach with virtually no other tourists - just the fishermen, their old handcrafted wooden boats, crabs and wild birds. We made the most of the sun beds, hammocks and blissful shady gardens when it was too hot on the beach. We had a great time walking back to the swimming pool in our cottage through the local village, talking to the smiling kids on the way.
The private outdoor living space at the cottage was a pleasant surprise: there was a large garden, a patio with a bamboo roof for dining, a great pool with sun beds, a hammock among the
tropical trees and a large veranda. But the biggest treat for us was to have a BBQ in our garden! We used to go to the local fish market almost every day to purchase the fresh catch and cook it traditional style in a banana leaf with local spices. Together with chilled wine the evenings were simply unforgettable!
The staff was friendly and attentive. Olga and Rupert, the owners, did everything to make this stay a fantastic one for us. They also helped us to organize local tours to the temple festivals and a houseboat cruise which is something not to miss in Kerala!
It was really hard to leave our lovely Orchid Cottage, but we decided to return some time very soon and, in a way, it still keeps us going.
