    Additional Location Information

The village centre of Alcalalí is 10 minutes walk away. The attractive village square is overlooked by the lovely old church and a medieval tower. The 3 bars that look onto the square are pleasant places to enjoy a relaxed drink or partake of their reasonably priced meals. The village has other bars, small supermarkets with butchery, bakers, pharmacy etc. A number of restaurants are also within easy reach. Alcalali holds its village fiestas in late June (San Juan) and August and are a must see if you are here at the time. The fiestas involve religious processions, nightly music and a firework display. Usually in July and August weekly open air Mariachi evenings are put on in the pretty grounds of a local estate on the edge of the village, again a must see if you are around.
Other villages in the Jalon Valley are also worth a visit. In particular Jalon has a Saturday Rastro (non food market) which is 0.5km long alongside the river and a street market on Tuesdays, full of fresh local produce. It also has a medium sized supermarket with excellent fresh fish. Parcent is five minutes away which is a pretty hilltop village. In April and May the Iris Gardens at Pinos are delightful.
There are a number of bodegas in the valley ranging from the extremely popular Cooperativa in Jalon offering free tastings of their wines to one in Parcent with quality wines costing up to hundreds of euros a bottle. Benissa (20 mins drive) has large supermarkets such as Iceland, Mercadona and Lidl.
Alcalali is located on the edge of the Marina Alta mountains. There are excellent drives through these mountains and valleys with many small villages, restaurants and bars. Out of season there are also many excellent walks and in spring the wild flowers and blossoms are a delight. The Marina Alta mountains are becoming increasingly popular as an autumn, winter or spring walking destination offering the possibility of enjoying superb walking in comfortable temperatures when conditions in Northern Europe are less than inviting. Walks range from pretty valley strolls (some from the front door of the apartment) to 4,500 foot rugged mountain rock scrambles and spectacular ridge walks. A number of maps and walking guide books are provided in the apartment for the use of clients.
The resorts and extensive beaches of Calpe, Javea, Denia and Moraira are about 30 minutes drive away, the theme / water parks of Terra Mitica, Natura Park, Aqualandia and Mundomar are about 40 mins drive.
Just over an hour’s drive away is historic Valencia which holds the famous Fallas fiestas in March where enormous paper-mache effigies are constructed and judged before all except the winners are burned on St Joseph’s night (19th March). More locally and 20 minutes drive away Denia holds its own smaller scale but non-the-less spectacular fallas on the same date. At various dates in the year many towns hold Moors & Christians fiestas. Benissa, Denia, Calpe, Moraira and Javea being popular.
Alicante and Valencia airports are each 1 hour 15 minutes drive away. A car is highly recommended to enjoy the area to the full.

Our favourite European home from home for a peaceful, relaxing &

Left on 02/15/2012 for a stay in April 2011

This was our fourth visit to Geoff & Jean's apartment, and we hope to make several more - it's a great place for a peaceful, relaxing & sunny break.
Although there are very good value restaurants within easy walking distance, a car is nearly essential and considerably increases the scope of restaurants to eat in & places to visit, both inland & coastal (including the city of Valencia), within easy travelling distance.
There is a wealth of local information in the apartment and plenty of enjoyable walking nearby, about which Geoff is very knowledgable and helpful. We have really enjoyed every visit and found the apartment to be well-equipped and very clean and comfortable - the location is excellent and the views very easy on the eye for lovers of scenery.

      A Dream Location

Left on 02/12/2012 for a stay in September 2007

The first time we visited Geoff & Jean's apartment we found we'd struck gold.

The setting is idyllic and tranquil, with a breathtaking view from the terrace and master bedroom window of olive and orange orchards, with a spectacular backdrop of the beautiful Marina alta mountains. To the right of this vista is the village of Parcent, as seen in our photograph. We spent many hours gazing at this delightful scene, and Geoff & Jean recommended an excellent upmarket restaurant in Parcent called Casa Carrascal, which we visited more than once.

Geoff and Jean were very welcoming and provided all the help and assistance we required. The very comfortable accommodation was spotlessly clean and was a welcome respite from the heat, as was the pool.

The village was unspoilt and in easy walking distance. It has several bars and restaurants (including a newly opened Indian restaurant on our 2nd visit). Our favourite place to eat was the Torre bar in the village square, where we mostly ended up.

A short drive away is the small town of Jalon which we frequented regularly, the Lemon Tree was one of our favourite bars, cheap but good food. The courtyard was very quaint with, of course, a lemon tree within and the bar was run by two English ladies at the time.

A drive of about 20 mins takes you to the Costa Blanca coast and its well known resorts. Other villages were a short drive away from alacalai.

To summarise, it is one of the best Spanish locations we have visited and we hope to return soon, because it is real Spain.

      Fantastic Holiday in alcalali

Left on 02/11/2012 for a stay in September 2011

We used to live in alcalali and looked for accommodation there when we went back for our first holiday since returning to the UK. We were not disappointed. This accommodation was excellent. The hosts were welcoming and helpful and the accommodation gave us everything we wanted. It was spotlessly clean, spacious and perfectly positioned for us to visit the places we wanted in the Jalon and Orba valleys. We honestly have nothing negative to say about the whole experience and will be booking again without hesitation.

      Walking paradise

Left on 02/11/2012 for a stay in May 2011

We spent May half term here in 2011. We have visited the Jalon valley five times and this was by far the best accomodation we had stayed in. The appartment is spacious and well laid out. The bath was a really luxury after a long walk! There was plenty of opportunity for short or long walks from the front door.
