Description from the owner
"Wow" is what visitors say upon entering the apartment, when they see the terrace and feel the sea. The waves seem to be entering the apartment on the one side; on the other side the whole historical centre of Alghero is left to be explored, right there, all around.
The apartment is about 60 square meters. It is made up of a main bedroom which is closely connected to a large bathroom.
It has a large main room with two more beds. The main room is connected to the terrace and the kitchen.

Ballina, IrelandLocated right in the heart of old town, for better or worse
Left on 08/25/2012 for a stay in July 2012
I stayed here with my wife and 4 year old son in the height of tourist season. It really is in the heart of the old town - the view is beautiful as shown with a lovely terrace and some of the best restaurants in town just underneath you. Very well located for access to city centre.
However, if you are with a young family, I would not recommend this unless you are a very heavy sleeper. The bedroom overlooks a street where the back of these restaurants are. There is regular loud noise throughout the night and into the morning and we found it impossible to sleep there - you have to keep the windows open as there is no a/C (but the apartment is fairly cool with the windows open - it was up to 37C when we were there). We then slept in the living room with the sofabed - this was fine except there is the city wall under you and a night club so there is alot of noise there, particularly on the weekend, when it is steady up until at least 4 am. You don't hear the music but there are alot of people outside - it is better than the street noise at least.
The apartment also has a staircase going through the middle of it where the residents upstairs would be passing through. They were very nice and I believe they were the owners but if you like your privacy in your hotel/apartment, you may find it off-putting.
We did not have some of the amenities listed on other reviews, such as the DVD player, ipod player, "international" cable (all Italian). Not a huge deal as thats not what you go on holidays for, but we did bring Dvds to watch if we retired early one night and had nothing to play them on. Other reviews led us to believe these would be there but they were not when we were there. The wifi generally worked well.
We ended up checking out early and booking a hotel to avoid the weekend noise. If you can live with the noise or are going to be out all night anyway and want an authentic experience, you may really like this apartment but we felt let down. -

San Francisco, CAWonderful apartment and island
Left on 09/27/2011 for a stay in August 2011
This apartment on the island of Sardegna is located on the oldest street in the ancient town of alghero. Open the shutters of the spacious bedroom, and you see the shuttered balconies across the cobbled street, people walking by, and a series of doors, each one a different color and size.
The bedroom is next to a large bathroom, both of which can be closed off with a door from the rest of the apartment for privacy. The bathroom has a shower and a bathtub as well, unusual for rentals here.
Across the hall, the airy living room reflects the waves on the ceiling when the shutters are open. There is a table seating six inside, and one on the terrace outside seating five people. Both sofas in the living room convert into beds; one sofa sleeps one, and the other sleeps two very comfortably.
There is international cable, an iPod player, and a DVD player with a variety of Dvd's to choose from. The fully -equipped kitchen and the terrace directly overlook the sea, ideal for the cook, the wine drinker, and the sunset watcher.
If you are looking for modern, Best Western accommodations, you will be sadly disappointed. This apartment is unique, memorable. You enter through an old, green wood door, walk down a dark hallway, climb the stairs, and enter an apartment filled with light, both from the sea side and the street side. This is a memorable place to stay; you are in the middle of the old city yet you have privacy and unmatched views.
Despite its age, this is a charming building, located in the heart of this city, easy walking distance to wonderful restaurants, jewelry stores, boutiques, bars, and museums. The jewelry stores feature handcrafted gold jewelry, done on site, unlike anything I've seen before. There are grocery stores, a beautiful harbor with sailboats for rent, and endless beautiful beaches.
We had a most memorable holiday and will definitely be back soon. -

BarcelonaFantástica terraza
Left on 08/06/2011 for a stay in April 2011

ChicagoCharm, location and some unexpected compromises
Left on 07/12/2011 for a stay in July 2011
This was a vintage building with a great location and terrific view. Very popular area with tourists, too, and no a/C, which meant that when the windows had to be open to relieve the heat, the sounds of drunken revelers came in through the windows until 3 am.
Tidy, good towels, well equipped for a small kitchen. Be prepared to compromise on security if you need your kids to have access to the single bathroom. Fire safety was also problematic.
All in all, we had fun for the three days we were there.Response from DreamSardinia - 07/26/2011
Owner
Thanks a lot Melissa. I think it's fair to say that all of the above compromises were NOT important enough to be mentioned to me directly while at the apartment, especially the security and fire safety issues you are mentioning. Unfortunately it's hard to address concerns, most of which we have never had reported, after you have left.
