    Additional Location Information

Alghero is a beautiful medieval city on the sea.
There are a lot of beaches to choose for your sunny days, and a lot of restaurants, bars and discos for your evenings and nights; car is not necessary, you can arrive anywhere by foot, bycicle (that you can rent) and buses.
In the country near the city you can find also renowned vineyards to visit, horse-riding centres and prehistorical sites with guided visits.

Every summer evening in the harbour you can hear sardinian local singers; there are horse carts carryng tourists in the centre of the city, and boats making sea trips to the "Grotte di Nettuno", beautiful sea caves under the cliff of "Capo Caccia".

"I know you want me to tell you about Alghero…
Since I was a teenager Alghero was one of the top favourite places to go for my summer holidays, main reasons being its fabulous night life, good camping sites and lots of nice beaches nearby…(Le Bombarde was my favourite one).

But now that I am older and wiser…I like it even more. It is indeed a lovely town that has got so much to offer to people of all ages, either if you are looking for good nightlife or a much quieter and more comfortable holiday break or even a proper cultural holiday.

Alghero, also know as the little Barcelona, because of its past of Catalan colony that has left its mark in the architecture and local dialect, it is a beautiful fisherman town with a pretty historic centre framed by ramparts and defensive towers.

I love to wander through its cobbled narrow streets that suddenly open up to fantastic views into the blue see. In the evening you can relax in one of the many outdoors bars before going to a good restaurant to taste the local specialties such as the “Aragosta alla Catalana” (Catalan style Lobster).

During the day you can take a boat to visit the Nettuno sea grottos or, if you feel really adventurous, you can drive to Capo Caccia and climb 659 steps to reach them…. it is really worth doing (but I prefer the boat option!). What you can visit outside Alghero? Lots of options for you but you will need to hire a car.
Going North: visit the villages and beaches of Stintino (53 KM) and Castelsardo (65 KM).
Going South: do not miss the lovely town of Bosa (45 KM). For the archaeology lovers the of Nuraghe Palmavera (3 KM) and the The Anghelu Ruiu Necropolis (10 KM).
Not many people know it but New year’s Eve in Alghero is fun and normally (double-check) there are lots of outdoor concerts, shows, street artists and fireworks etc..
For the girls: the coast where Alghero is located is called “The Coral Riviera” and in Alghero you can buy fantastic coral jewellery !
Definitely worth visiting then, especially if you think that Alghero’s Airport is connected to Stansted with a daily flight and you can be there in slightly more than 2 hours.
If you go there send us some pictures!!

    Cap d'Any a l'Alguer. New Year’s Eve in Alghero
For the past 10 years Alghero has organized the Cap d’Any festivities, one of the most famous and sparkling New Year’s Eves in the island. This event, which opens its doors to visitors at the beginning of December and ends during the magic night of December 31st, includes every year an interesting program of thematic shows animating the little streets and squares of the Catalan historic centre. It is an event that cannot be missed, especially for people wishing to spend a different New Year’s Eve, but also for those wishing to savour life in this beautiful medieval town during the Christmas holidays: concerts, theatre shows, street artists and stalls animating the days and especially the nights.
Core of the celebrations is certainly the great night of the 31st, when, following the rich dinners in the numerous little restaurants, with the typical Catalan lobster, people pour down the city streets among dances, concerts and pyrotechnical shows.
An emotional event, plunging the spectator into a kaleidoscope of lights, colours, among thousands of fantastic characters and dreamy treasures that only a town like Alghero can present.

      Heaven in Heaven!

Left on 10/31/2011 for a stay in March 2011

Sunny Terrace's entrance is in the centre of Piazza Civica and could not be more perfectly situated to enjoy the delights of alghero Old Town. It is very spacious and has a nice homely feel abou it. To the front there is a beautiful terrace (hard to come by in alghero old town) overlooking the harbour, and to the rear, you can open the shutters and absorb the atmosphere generated by Piazza Civica itself.

The main living area is hugh and the kitchen is very well equipped and flows comfortably onto the main terrace, so eating "al fresco" is easy. The bedrooms are all very large and well furnished and therefore comfortable. There is a bath in one of the two bathrooms, which I find quite a luxury, and unusual in Italian apartments.

Dealing with the owner, Maria, is an easy and pleasant experience and the Lady who let us into and out of the apartment is also very pleasant. This is such a brilliantly placed apartment that we are going to be returning in the near future! All in all, I would thouroughly recommend this apartment.

Well the photos online looked great but then they always do so it was wonderful to arrive at sunny terrace to find it was even better then the pictures. A lovely apartment with plenty of space and character right in the old historical town of alghero. Lovely views of the harbor and a huge terrace to enjoy early evening drinks. Fully equip, with even a little library to borrow books from, we had a fantastic time and will definitely be booking to go back

      beautiful apartment in sardinia

Left on 02/08/2011 for a stay in October 2010

Our family (girls of 8 and10) had a great stay in the beautiful apartment in the old town, perfectly situated above the square, with views from the generous terrace towards the harbour at the back. The restaurants were good but not as good as shopping at the market and cooking in the well equipped kitchen. The only downside was poor TV reception. We would gadly return, it was far lovlier to stay in somewhere looking more like a home than a barren holiday home. Perfect.
