What Past Guests Are Saying
After a long drive we arrived in the most beautiful scenic area and the loveliest cottage. We were greeted by Sue, who was very friendly and welcoming. A fire was already burning and a pot of tea brewing, served with homemade cake. Sue showed us around the beautiful cottage and went through all the basics with us, she kindly provided us with the basic provisions for the morning as we had been unable to stop ourselves. She left us to unpack and settle in, after a good nights sleep we were met with stunning views, sheep on the hillside and peace, quiet and tranquility. Our idea of heaven and a real getaway.
Fiona and family
Blacksmith's Cottage is the most beautiful cottage we have ever stayed in, it is supberbly equipped and has all the comforts of home and more! We were a family of four and there was loads of space for us and our large dog. Sue was the perfect hostess and has collected and researched a huge amount of information about walks, places of interest, pubs, restuarants and put it all in the cottage. She even supplied information about dog friendly cafes and pubs! We especially loved the walk to the pub in alwinton (Sunday roast is fab!!) and also our visit to Barrowburn Tearoom. If you enjoy the countryside and a nice log fire to sit around at the end of the day Blacksmith's Cottage is a must.
Amazing location, views, furnishings and welcome
Absolutely fantastic little cottage. Went with 4 adults and a baby and a golden retriever. We all had an awesome time, log burning stove in the living room was superb addition and everything was so beautifully done. Perfect for dog walks straight into fields and views, I usually have to drive to walks, it was great to just walk out the house into the hills. I can highly recommend the sauna too. Sue was the perfect host being available but leaving us to our own devices, a real gem and a bargain let alone the fact that another 2 could have fitted as well. A lovely getaway from standard mass market holidays.
Sue is a great host, with a lovely cottage in a wonderful location. The cottage was immaculately clean, the beds v comfortable and the heating worked v efficiently - a combination of multi-fuel stove and storage heaters, supplemented w under floor heating if needed. It appears that nothing is too much trouble for Sue; she will kennel your dog, offer you a sauna and pick you up at the end of a walk to bring you back to the cottage. There are v nice touches such as an outside tap to wash down muddy bikes and boots and a lockable outhouse for bikes, strollers etc. In other words really great service.
The area is remote, yet v accessible and the views are stunning.
A great cottage for getting away from it all. Highly recommended.
Northumberlands best holiday experience
In the Blacksmiths Cottage Sue put together a perfect holiday retreat with all the amenities and services that you could possibly want. I was greeted with a lovely warm welcome from both Sue and Harvey and enjoyed the most fantastic week in a brilliant comfy cozy cottage.
The walking from the doorstep is brilliant (Sue even offers a drop off sevice)and great fishing and sightseeing close by.
This is definitely a five star experience.

Perfect location, cottage and hospitality.
The cottage is beautifully kept and ideal for a stay. Set in an picturesque location with rolling hills, the place is peaceful and an ideal escape. Sue found the perfect balance as proprietor being available whenever we required her yet leaving us to our own devices. We were welcomed with tea and cake. The outdoor sauna adds an element of the five star and is great after a day trekking nearby. All in all Blacksmiths cottage suited our needs and was a great place to relax with a baby and a dog. We could not recommend it highly enough.
Superb place to stay with the family highly recommend
Just returned from the cottage and it was a excellent place to stay with my wife, children and dog.
The service we received from Sue was outstanding and nothing was any trouble to her. She provided thorough local information and guidance and provided a excellent dogg minding service.
The cottage was immaculate and had a warm home feeling to it.
I would highly recommend the Blacksmith's cottage to stay at and I will be returning in the near future for another hassle free break.
The service given to us by Sue was superb and I strongly recommend this cottage to all. 5* ++.
The perfect "get away form it all"
Blacksmith's Cottage is a fantastic get way from it all cottage, set in the heart of the countryside approx 35mins from the coast. The cottage has everything you could possibly need or want to make your stay as relaxing as possible. We took our two Golden Retrievers, who were equally well catered for. The kennel is a great idea as it enabled us to leave the dogs behind, knowing they were safe and well looked after by Sue, when visiting attractions that didn't admit dogs.
Would strongly recommend Blacksmith's Cottage to anybody, so would our 8 & 12yr old children & two dogs.
The Wright Family
perfect place, perfect person.
We stayed here for 1 week during the summer holidays. The cottage was wonderfully well equipped for our family, everything we might need had been thought of and was available to us. As well as providing a substantial set of folders of information about the cottage and areas of interest, Sue was always available if we had a question or needed anything.
Thank you Sue for helping to make our holiday so relaxed.
Hazel & Richard (and 2 Golden Retrievers)
Definately a luxury gold star cottage, everything you could possibly want for a relaxing retreat after taking in the lovely walks and scenery. Really dog friendly, so our 4-legged friends enjoyed their holiday as well. Will keep returning to such a welcoming and cosy place (3 times already), and hospitable owner (plus friendly resident dog). Nothing is too much trouble, from drop off facility for walks, to local provisions available to buy.
The maps available and local knowledge from Sue is invaluable.
