Looked like a great rental, but fell short in multiple ways.

Left on 09/12/2012 for a stay in August 2012

We found a number of unexpected things with this house, unfortunately. Some things seemed to be broken (like a couple of chairs). Some things were sorely out-of-date, like the television which did not accept Hdmi inputs. And the house didn't have a basic stereo, something that would have been nice for hooking up iPods or phones to play music in the main room. The kitchen was not well-equipped; all the knives were dull and there were no serving utensils.

Some notes about the management of the property: We were disappointed that our check-in time was supposed to be 4pm but the call with our lockbox code came closer to 5pm. We were waiting at the location and then had to leave and come back later, as a result. Additionally, if the reason for this was that the cleaning crew ere still working, that would have been acceptable. However, upon entering the house it was evident that the house had not been recently cleaned (there were cobwebs and a musty smell around the house).

The management also said they would email with the code, and did not do that.

I won't bother renting from tahoegetaways.com again. The house itself had some positive points- a beautiful view, nice hot tub, and spacious deck area- but there were many shortcomings, and the management did not seem on-par with other management companies.

      Manager

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review for the Eagle’s Nest at Alpine. I’m sorry that you were not pleased with your stay at this property. In regards to some of your comments, specifically in regards to the service provided:

To be accurate, as is protocol, a voicemail message was left before 4 pm on the day of arrival, that the home was ready and to please call back to receive the lock box code. When we didn’t hear back, a second call was made at 5 pm, which is when we were able to speak in person. We apologize if this caused you an inconvenience. In addition, we have confirmation that the cleaning crew completed the clean just 4 days prior to your arrival. Unfortunately, spider webs can occur quite frequently in mountain homes.

As for the house itself, this is a privately owned single family home. We do our absolute best to describe the home and it’s amenities in very great detail to manage the expectations of our guests. While, we can not force our owners to upgrade every television to our guests demands, simple items like serving utensils and/or sharp knives are very easy requests that we are happy to accommodate. We will make sure to double check this before the next guests arrive.

Again, we apologize if your expectations were not met, however, we take all feedback very seriously in order to improve our overall guest satisfaction.

An awesome time had by all!

Left on 07/13/2012 for a stay in June 2012

We rented this house completely over the phone. All questions were answered and handled very efficiently. Everything was true that we were told. The house has a view to-die-for, endless miles of trees and mountains are seen from every window and deck. It is a quiet neighborhood with many roads and trails to hike and adventure on plus a small pond with a beach just half a mile away. There was plenty of space to have family group time plus places to have quiet peaceful times alone or games in the pool room or on the deck. The two master suites each had a bath with a door closing the unit off. That was a little awkward when all five bedrooms were in use - having occupants of three bedrooms try to use one bathroom. Did not catch this problem until the two master suites had gone to bed early and everyone left had just one bathroom to share.
When we arrived the kitchen faucet was hanging loose. Reported this the next morning and had service that day to fix it temporarily (hopefully it and a leak in the downstairs master bath have been repaired).
All in all we had a grand and glorious time. Would rent this house again.

Great house, rough service model, Satellite TV was out the whole

Left on 01/25/2012 for a stay in January 2012

I planned this trip for three families. I was a bit embarassed by the instructions at the home for checking out - do the dishes, put them away, take off sheets from the beds, a suggestion to start a load of laundry - my friends were asking what role the property manager played. These tasks, in addition to the $250 cleaning fee had me wondering what the cleaning fee went to - why not take off that $250 from the rent price if we're going to be do the labor?

Satallite TV went out the whole weekend, so we were stuck.

Physical house is beautiful and well maintained. Hot tub works well.

Thanks for your feedback. Unfortunately, it seems like there was some miscommunication regarding our check-out instructions and maybe some further explanation was needed. Yes, we do ask you to load the dishwasher before you leave. However, we certainly wouldn't expect you to wait for it. This is to avoid hard, sticky substances drying on dishware left out, since the cleaners may not get there right away. We also ask you to start a load of laundry (only if you have time). Laundry in large houses is by far the most time consuming task. A five minute task could save the cleaners near an hour, when they arrive. The next guests hoping to arrive early, can really benefit from the time saved.

We perform property inspections before and after each rental to make sure the properties are ready for arriving guests. However, the $250 cleaning fee is set by a third-party cleaning contractor and we are confident that it's a fair price for the quality of their work (believe me, we have tested out nearly a dozen local cleaning companies). Our priority (and theirs) is that our guests arrive to clean homes on a consistent basis that are ready at the check-in time promised. I hope you found this to be the case upon your arrival as well.
Again, I apologize for the inconvenience you experienced upon your departure and hope that you'll consider us again for your next visit to Lake Tahoe.

      Girls weekend getaway...pure bliss!

Left on 09/29/2011 for a stay in September 2011

This house was beautiful in every way. Eight high school girl friends got together after 25 years and there was plenty of room for all of us. Spouses and kids left at home! The house was stunning and very comfortable. The hot tub was a nice place for the girls to hang out and the huge TV in the living room definitely had our attention as well. The kitchen had everything we needed to create wonderful meals during our stay. The location was ideal - far enough from any noise, but close enough for gambling, dining or shopping. Would definitely stay here again!

Nice place but deferred maintenance needs attention

Left on 03/02/2011 for a stay in February 2011

Loved the location and the view but there were a number of major things that went wrong including the fireplace breaking on the first day - a major disappointment, as it was part of the reason we chose this location. The hottub also stopped functioning and we had to figure out how to get working again. Heat in a number of the bedrooms is completely inadequate - master suite, and room next to laundry - for winter occupancy though managers were good about delivering space heaters which helped somewhat. Kitchen has no vent which makes for smoke when cooking.

While the the rental rate would have been fair if everything functioned properly, we didn't feel we got our money's worth with the various malfunctions.

I can't say enough about Eagle's Nest. It is a beautiful spot with breathtaking views and access to everything that makes the area special. The house itself is fantastic. It is comfortable, well-appointed and has everything you want in a vacation house: hot tub, pool table, big screen TV, and a central cook's kitchen. I look forward to going back this winter for a ski weekend!

      Fabulous weekend away!

Left on 10/06/2010 for a stay in October 2010

This place was a perfect getaway for me and four good friends. The house is beautiful -- stunning views from nearly every room, great open kitchen, and very comfortable rooms. It is ideally located close to everything - hiking in the summer, skiing in the winter -- and the big hot tub with 360 views was the perfect way to end a strenuous day.

Eagle's Nest was ideal for our group. It is spacious and very well-equipped, especially the kitchen. The views from the windows and the hot tub can't be beat. There are wonderful hikes to beautiful alpine lakes just down the street. I would highly recommend this property.

      Great time, some deferred maintenance

Left on 08/02/2009 for a stay in July 2009

Our family thoroughly enjoyed the time at Eagle's Nest. We were very pleased by the staff at the rental agency. We have rented this house before and were disappointed by the deferred maintenance evident throughout the home. The kitchen faucet was in need of repair, as well as a faucet in the downstairs master bath, the carpet in the dining room was stained in several spots, the furniture was very dusty and some of the couches were stained, the upstairs deck and barbeque were very dirty. Windows and sills were very dirty as well, many dead insects on the window sills. Both French doors to the outside were difficult to operate, the door knob came off one and the downstairs door could not be locked. The market umbrella on the deck outside was broken and inoperable. We requested service to the hot tub because it was very cloudy (despite requiring everyone to rinse off before entering)but the service was not performed until the day we checked out. We would not stay here again unless the house was thoroughly cleaned and maintenance performed.

      Nice house, good location

Left on 07/27/2009 for a stay in January 2009

The house is very nice, with newer fixtures, furniture etc -- definitely a "luxury" rental. Location can't be beat, we could walk home from Alpine Meadows if we needed to (or the shuttle can drop you off). Nice mountain/tree views, feels very private, lots of space to spread out.

On the Con side, both times we stayed here there was some essential item that was completely empty. In this price range, I wish they would go to Costco and just stock up on stuff like handsoap, laundry detergent etc. I understand the concept of you-take-some-you-leave-some, but it's really annoying to get to a nice luxury rental at 10pm after driving through a snow storm and find all the hand soap dispensers to be completely empty, or no TP in the bathroom. Or, an example from our first stay here, if you ask us to start a load of laundry before we go, it would be nice to have more than a dribble of laundry detergent left in the container. Worse yet, I later found out the owners had been the ones occupying the unit immediately before us, so it wasn't the prior guest who used up everything and didn't replace it.
