BerkeleyAwesome House, Great Location!
Left on 03/28/2013 for a stay in March 2013
We were so impressed with the house. It's big, clean, modern, yet cozzy! The indoor hot tub was great. Great location - so close to alpine and Squaw Valley ski resort. However, we didn't quite understand why we'd have to take the garbage out. I rented houses many times in Tahoe and was never asked to take out the garbage since there was cleaning fee charged.

My wife and I chose this house based on location (3 minutes to alpine) and loved the quiet neighborhood. The house had everything we needed and was very comfortable. We'd rent again, especially after a big winter storm! A little bit of a drive to restaurants if that is your thing but that is Tahoe. Nice location close to Squaw, Tahoe City, and Truckee. We never felt inconvenienced by the location.

New York City, New YorkNot exactly a sanctuary...but close
Left on 12/10/2012 for a stay in December 2012
We stay in luxury vacation homes 2-3 times a year, internationally, summer and winter seasons so we're not new to the experience. We generally put a lot of effort into our travel arrangements for maximum comfort. Had we read a similar review as our winter experience at alpine sanctuary, we most definitely would've booked elsewhere. The home is certainly welcoming and was in a great location for our ski activities. The flowing stream in the back was a nice touch. We assumed it would've been the perfect place for our annual ski trips out West. My husband and i flew into SF from the NYC area with our toddler and yorkie. We were accompanied to Tahoe by my elderly parents from the bay area.
Long story short, alpine sanctuary would've received 5 stars from us were it not for a very crucial and necessary element, especially during winter months...Heat!!! The thermostats were not to be above a certain temperature. We contacted the management company due to the of the lack of heat and were informed that the heating system is "unique/sophisticated", takes 24 hours to heat up the house and is controlled remotely. We were also advised to utilize the space heaters provided or burn firewood. Not the response we were looking for. Although it creates a nice ambiance, we shouldn't have to purchase firewood from local grocers to keep warm. The space heaters aren't digital so you cannot set a specific temperature to turn on/off (especially overnight). Instead, we would have to wake up every hour or so throughout the night to check the temperature in the room our toddler was sleeping. The room was either too hot or too cold. The same with our room and my parents room...they were awakened by the room being too warm or too cold. The heating system, as unique as we were told, was very inconsistent. One bedroom would be somewhat warm whilst the rest of the house was chilly (during the day). My parent's decided to leave early and head back to the bay area, as they weren't comfortable overnight and our toddler was coming up with cold-like symptoms.
This experience was rather unfortunate...this home was almost perfect, were it not for such an inconsistent basic necessity. Our review is not intended to take away from the experience the owners/management seek to provide, however, it's only fair that others traveling with children and elderly are aware of our experience. Perhaps this would've been a different experience in the summer...however, we won't be returning. Not with the myriad of options.
My husband felt terrible about this experience so he surprised me with a couple nights at the Ritz Carlton at Northstar, in an attempt to salvage our trip. Now that was truly a sanctuary. -

San FranciscoHard to overstate how much we loved this place!
Left on 09/06/2012 for a stay in August 2012
This house is bigger, more beautiful, and better appointed than we dared imagine, and was as quiet and private as we really needed for this trip. Love how it's nestled down from the street into the forest. The deck is situated such that it gets sun all day long. Even late in the summer you can hear Bear Creek babbling from the master bedroom deck. All we needed was a hot tub, but we got a mini European spa with gorgeous views of pines all around.
We had never been to alpine Meadows before, and fell completely in love with the area (hike to Five Lakes was great). We think we had the best place in the meadow! -

Houston, TXBeautiful area to Stay
Left on 08/16/2012 for a stay in July 2012
This house is exactly the way it is depicted. Very comfortable, plenty of room, in excellent condition and situated in a beautiful location. The kitchen was spacious and had everything we needed to make meals at the house. Nicely located in alpine meadows. Close to a popular hiking trail that goes right into the heart of the mountains. There is also the bike/running paved trail close by that goes up the truckee river towards Tahoe City.
Our only complaint is during our stay it was warm at night, and there were no fans for the bedrooms to stay cool. We had the windows open but it still didn't cool down. This is definitely not a show stopper though, more of a suggestion to make it more comfortable.
Overall great place to stay. -

We had an amazing stay at this beautiful and cozy home! Packed with all the necessities and more. The tucked away private hot tub room was absolutely gorgeous. Everything was extremely clean and very well decorated. We thoroughly loved our stay. Although tucked away, it was close to everything we needed in North Tahoe. So worth the stay- we will come back again!

We've stayed here 4 times -- truly a wonderful getaway. The home has all the amenities you'd need and then some. Conveniently situated, fully equipped chef's kitchen, hot tub, great light, surrounded by woods, great for kids/families, and roomy, open spaces. We cooked most of our meals and dined on the deck attached to the kitchen. It's a comfortable and comforting home. We highly recommend it!

This house is beautifully appointed and spacious, with a great hot tub (indoor). The sound system is wired through the hot tub room and through the main lounge which is a nice touch. The house has everything you will need and more, with a distinct Japanese feel, it really does make for a relaxing, zen-like mountain stay.

We have wonderful memories of our stay at this sanctuary. After a day of skiing at alpine, it was so relaxing and comforting to soak in the large jacuzzi while looking out the tall, ceiling-high windows. The slate tiles give the entire room a resort-like feel. The kids were able to play outside within our view, and they even found a hill for sledding right next to the house. The rooms are large, the furniture very clean and comfortable, and the adults appreciated the noiseless radiant heating. We loved the layout of the kitchen and eating areas - great for groups of people. All the high-end appliances were well-maintained and clean.

Left on 03/09/2012 for a stay in January 2010
We found this exquisite home to be truly a sanctuary in every way. Each detail of design has been beautifully attended to, as it is a one-of-a-kind, modern, but warmly appointed house. The entire home is situated for privacy facing a beautiful creek with light pouring in to the huge windows. A spacious upstairs is open living. The bedroom floor also enjoys the creek views, and the spa room, with floor to ceiling glass, inspires hours of quiet reflection and relaxation. It must be stressed this is an elegant home, there is nothing of the "rustic” in it. A treat. It took us just 3 minutes to get to alpine Meadows and this quiet location is also close to many trails for hiking or just to take a leisurely walk... so convenient for enjoying the outdoors.

This property is fabulous! The pictures are very accurate but they certainly do not reflect the feeling of being inside this home. It is spacious, cozy, modern and just few minutes from outdoors activities.
The wonderful indoor spa is just perfect and great to relax after the slopes. There was nothing like enjoying and admiring the scenery and tranquility of the Tahoe wilderness. You can't go wrong with this special home!! -

Left on 03/05/2012 for a stay in January 2009
We had an incredible weekend with good friends at the appropriately named 'Alpine Sanctuary.' It is located just minutes from alpine Meadows so you are able to ski all day and return to a blissful spa with an incredible view of the surrounding forest. We enjoyed preparing gourmet meals in the well-appointed kitchen and relaxing in front of the lovely stone fireplace. We had an overnight snow storm and awoke to a winter wonderland. We also enjoyed watching the superbowl on the large screen TV. This beautiful home had something for everyone in our family. We highly recommend it and will definitely return.
