Description from the owner

Villa Stasio is a unique place in Amalfi where you can feel that time is frozen to the beginning of the past century and where you can experience a comfortable familiar atmosphere. You will stay in the apartments Renata which is part of Villa Anastasio built in the 1800 and surrounded by the typical lemon gardens. We have an open door policy, my family who owns the apartment live next door and is always willing to help you with anything you need. Villa Stasio is close to the main beach areas where you can enjoy the crystalline Mediterranean sea water during the summer and get away from the daily routine. The apartment is just few minutes wal...Read more

      An authentic amalfi experience

Left on 05/16/2013 for a stay in May 2013

My family and I had the best time staying in the Renata apartment at the Villa anastasio. Salvatore, with whom we begun email communication months before, was a terrific help, even though he was in Boston! His Mum, Angela and aunt Carmela are two fantastic women who have made our stay even more memorable with their friendliness and generosity - fresh garden produce, supply of lemons for my younger daughter to make lemonade, meals together, and Carmela giving us a ride back from Positano having caught sight of us at the bus stop when she was on her way back after work! And helping us with our bags up those stairs, and there are a few!

The apartment itself has many family keepsakes and antique furniture. It is an old style Italian apartment with simple functional and adequate mod cons and great views from every window. Located higher up in the valley meant we were living among the families, and away from the hustle and bustle of down town amalfi...it was quiet and peaceful except for friendly school noise when the high school was in session! We were also close to the paper museum , the walking trails to the Valley of the Mills and the uphill climb to Pontone.

If you are looking for luxury, you won't find it here...but if you're after a slice of Italian living and simple pleasures, you will find it here!

Grazie Mille Salvatore, Angela and Carmela! Till the next time!

      Authentic and comfortable

Left on 02/10/2013 for a stay in August 2012

After leaving the train at Salerno and taking a bus to amalfi town, our host, Salvatore, picked us up at the harborfront to drive us to the Villa Stasio, up the main street at the far end of the town. He's a young guy who grew up in the house, and was visiting for a few weeks from Boston where he works at Harvard.

Staying at the Villa Stasio, which is about 125 years old, was like staying with someone's Italian grandma. In fact, our rooms had been the grandmother's apartment.

The rooms had ceilings about 11 feet high, ceramic tile floors throughout, and a bathroom and kitchen whose plumbing was worked in long after the building was constructed. It was like living in the 19th century with massive, dark furniture, knickknacks, old photos and dishware and doilies (I had to look up the spelling on that one. And for those of you too young to know - a doily is a crocheted or knitted mat placed on tables, dressers, etc.) The kitchen is well equipped even if the place settings are not necessarily matched. But there are some many amazing places to eat in amalfi, so we mostly just made breakfasts.

It was a delightful place to stay because it was so real and unpretentious. We met Salvatore's mother, Aunt Carmelina, Cousin andreas and one of the tenants. Our "alarm clock" was a rooster up in the gardens and vineyards behind the villa. One morning, I heard the clip-clopping of a farmer leading a donkey up the path just below our windows, where, by the way, we hung out our laundry to dry, just like everyone else in town. (There's a washing machine in the apartment, but at the time we were there, no dryer.)

You don't get these kind of experiences at the Holiday Inn.

      Amalfi--Local Charm

Left on 02/01/2013 for a stay in July 2012

The apartment is the villa is quite charming and decorated with family antiques. Although the windows do not face the sea, the view from the bedrooms and kitchen is of the mountainside full of gardens and lemon trees. The villa itself is rather large and the apartment is located on the top floor. Be prepared for the stairs. If you cannot manage lots of stairs, this might not be the apartment for you. If you can, then you will be fit before the end of your stay.

The apartment is equipped with the basics that you will need...hairdryer, clothes washer, kitchen equipment, television, air conditioning, beach towels. The wifi connection is a bit tricky and requires going into the common living room area to access the Internet.

Angela, the owner, greeted me at the bus stop near the center of town and helped me with my luggage. The apartment is located in the hillside in an area that is a bit away from the town center of amalfi. It is probably a 10 minute walk to get to the town center. But, it is a lovely walk past resturants and shops. Once you get to the town center, you can go the beach or catch a ferry to Positano or other amalfi Coast destinations. There are also buses to go to Ravello or some of the smaller seaside villages. Or, if you head outside the villa in the opposite direction, you will find yourself on a hiking path to Ravello.

Although angela does not speak much english, there are nieces, nephews or sons present in the villa who speak english wonderfully. Salvatore, Angela's son, handled the communication (in English) prior to my arrival and provided me with notes about where to eat and where to visit and what to see.

This was my first visit to the amalfi Coast and I hope to return to this part of Italy someday. The apartment was perfect for my two-week stay.

Dear Andrea, thanks for your review. Unfortunately the thick walls of this ancient Villa represent a severe barrier for the Wi-Fi coverage. However this issue has been solved and guests can now surf the web from the apartment.

      A Hidden Gem

Left on 01/31/2013 for a stay in June 2012

I came here with my best friend for a summer getaway. The moment we arrived at Villa Satasio, we were blown away by the authentic beauty surrounding us. The villa was far larger than we expected and quite comfortable. We were welcomed with open arms and even provided with a list of recommendations nearby. Salvatore's family was absolutely lovely and accommodating during our stay. Anytime we had a question, they were more than happy to help. His aunt Carmelina even gave us a tour of her garden and even surprised us with a basket of lemons and plums from her own trees! The villa is just a short walk into town and to the main beaches, providing an amazing panoramic view of the town. If you are looking for a true Italian adventure, this hidden gem is waiting for you!

Villa Stasio is airy and spacious, tastefully decorated and housed within a beautiful historic building. There is a large bathroom and fully equipped kitchen and a lovely dinning area. The views from the windows are gorgeous too!
The apartment is conveniently a short walk away from the Duomo/ central square, restaurants, shops and supermarket.
Salvatore's family, who live in the same building are very warm and welcoming, and were incredibly helpful throughout the stay, even kindly providing restaurant recommendations.
      A wonderful place to stay!

      Wonderful hospitality

Left on 05/17/2012 for a stay in May 2012

We stayed in amalfi for a week in May 2012. We were hoping for a relaxing getaway from busy old London. The apartment felt like a home away from home, and was decorated in typical Italian style. We enjoyed lots of lazy days with the warm sun and beautiful setting. Was really handy to have a kitchen to cook in and easy enough to find really nice groceries locally. Thus working out a much more affordable holiday than staying in a hotel. For us the steps down to the town were perfect for burning off the daily gelato! The family were really great, helping us sort out transport, answering our questions and giving tips on where to visit. The views from the apartment down on to the town and across the hills are beautiful. On the one day it rained we were happy enough to lie in bed and watch the storm clouds roll across the hills. We highly recommend the apartment.

      A true amalfi Experience

Left on 04/25/2012 for a stay in April 2012

We truly enjoyed our stay in the Villa anastasio, it was definately a way to experience the local cilture of the region. we had 4 travelers sharing the Villa 1 couple and two singles, there was plenty of room for all of us. The family was very helpful and accomodating in every need. The Villa was spacious and had all of the basic amenities needed to make for a comfortable stay. The view of the town and the water is spectacular from the height of the Villa as it is situated at the high end of the town, just beare of you do not like climbing stairs as there are many to and from the Villa.

The internet was not reliable and if you are a big TV buff know that the TV is small. The family tried their best to get te internet working for us during our stay but in the end we used the Towns internet cafe.

The Village offers charming restaurants and shops with easy access by local bus up and down the coast. There are ample restaurants and shops and geourgeous strolls on the beach. The Villa is located in the heart of the Village very near the paper museum and makes for lovely walking tours daily.
We liked the size of the Villa and the amenities it offered are good value for the price. Do note that the bathroom is located at the far end of the Villa and this means walking throuhg one of the sleeping quarters to get to it. If you are looking for posh comfort this is not your Villa but if you are looking for and excellent Villa with all the amenities of home, large space, a great view and a chance to imerse yourself in the local lifestyle then this is your place. the family is exceptionally friendly and helpful for anything you need and require. You can dine in easily with the full kitchen and dining space, but with the aray of fabulous restaurants we chose to eat out most nights and have a comfortable breakfast in the Villa.

      Good accommodation

Left on 09/10/2011 for a stay in August 2011

Our stay at Villa anastasio was great. We had everything we needed to be self sufficient, good kitchen. the hosts were good people they greeted us with fresh watermelon tomatoes and bread. We were grateful for that because we were so hungry when we arrived. They were helpful with local information, where to eat where to visit and what to do. There is a small supermarket close by to buy food for cooking or lots of local restaurants in walking distance from the apartment. The shop keepers in amalfi were rude and unfriendly which made shopping unpleasant. There was one young woman worker in the local supermarket who was friendly and helpful, everywhere else was not. This really spoilt our stay in amalfi and we certainly didn't want to spend our money in these shops. But our accommodation hosts were good people. I wouldn't visit amalfi again because of the rudeness of the shop keepers and cafe bar workers also.

Villa anastasio will transports you to a life style in the past years but offers great service for the price. We really enjoy the view, the mountains and the relaxing environment although is within a few minutes away from the busy main street. Location for us was great even with the steps, excellent exercise!!! Thanks you Salvatore and his family (aunt Carmelina and his mother)for the help/services provided.

Salvatore and his family were so gracious and just so nice. They picked us up with 2 cars one for me and my 2 sisters and one for our heavy luggages. He even woke up at 6am to drop us off our last day. They made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed including internet. Not only did Salvatore advise us on good restaurants and beaches. He spent his day taking us out to a nice beach and restaurant. The apartment was spacious and clean. It is close enough to walk everywhere from the shops, beaches to the buses. I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to visit amalfi. I am definitely coming back to amalfi and staying here!

I enjoyed staying at Villa anastasio. They made me feel welcome! I was picked up from the ferry so that I didn't have to lug my belongings up the hill.

The apartment was spacious and well kept, as well as convenient to the town. I liked that they had a remote control to turn the hall lights on at night when you are returning to the Villa. As a solo traveller it was a comfort to have!

Villa anastasio was exactly what we were looking for!

Left on 07/06/2011 for a stay in June 2011

I stayed here with my mom a couple weeks ago and we have been raving about it to friends and family ever since. Salvatore wasn't there when we arrived but his mom picked us up from the bus stop and insisted on helping us with our luggage up the many steps to the villa (the only thing that we would change if we could). She and her sister were so hospitable despite the language barrier, offering to give us a ride to Positano, checking in just the right amount but not too much etc.) The apartment itself is gorgeous, we had 5 rooms to ourselves. It's perfect if you're looking for an authentic Italian experience! We had to catch an early bus and his mother woke up at 6 am to drive us (and help us with our stuff again). We tried to give her money but she wouldn't take it. We both feel so lucky we found this place, it made amalfi the highlight of our trip to Italy. Thank you Salvatore and family, we can't wait to come back!

Great Location - Tons of Character

Left on 11/05/2010 for a stay in September 2009

We had a great stay. It was a little far up the hill but it's an easy walk and on a beautiful hillside. the place has a lot of antique character and a cute little kitchen that has everything you need to cook your own meals. The owners are great and very helpful.

It's for people who want a unique experience and feel like they are actually living in the city they are staying. The amalfi coast is very touristy for my tastes and this was a nice escape.

Left on 11/03/2010 for a stay in September 2010

The apartment was at a perfect location close enough to the center for convenience but far enough from the outside noise. There are quite a few steps leading up the apartment but it's an excellent form of exercise. You can walk to the beach, all the restaurants, and shops. There are excellent hiking trails right next to the apartment.
The apartment was very clean and provided all the amenities that one needs for a comfortable stay. The family was very hospitable and always willing to help in any way possible. Overall, it was a great stay with excellent location, clean apartment, and an extremely friendly family. Would highly recommend this apartment to anyone who is looking into staying in amalfi.

Left on 10/26/2010 for a stay in August 2010

a little walk of 10min from the beach, a friend of mine and I found a good place to stay. In a quiet neighbourhood among houses, gardens and some livestock of local people, our room had an excelent view to the beautiful mountains that enclose amalfi. The place was huge (bathroom, bed room, kitchen and living room all big in this historical house) and we could always talk to the owner (very simpathic!) about the local way of living and to give us tips of what to do in Costa amalfitana. It was an incredible place to do quiet vacations and rest.
