Appartamento Enrietta A is an elegant apartment of 60 square meters (approximately 645 square feet) which sleeps four persons, with air conditioning, with a terrace of 60 square meters (645 square feet) with a wide panoramic view of Amalfi and of the sea. It is approximately 100 meters (110 yards) from the sea and the beach, and 50 meters (55 yards) from the Cathedral of Amalfi .

There are two bedrooms with a double bed, a bathroom with shower, a living room with sofa, television and dining table, and a kitchen. All the rooms are equipped with air conditioning.

The kitchen is equipped with four-burner cooker, oven, refrigerator wi...th freezer.

The furnishing is welcoming and elegant. In the living room there are some nice antiques.

The apartment is located on the topmost floor of a building of medieval origin. The building is part of the ancient palaces that were inhabited by the Dukes of Amalfi in the eleventh century, when Amalfi was a powerful Sea Republic. You will reach it from the main street of Amalfi along a short pedestrian pathway, which includes 105 steps.

The pathway will give you a first brief contact with the maze of narrow passageways and stairways that make up the incredible and spell-binding street structure of the historical core of Amalfi.

To reach the apartment you will need to climb 45 more steps inside the building.

Once you arrive to your apartment, you will find out that it was well worth climbing a few steps: you will be staying in a truly privileged place in the most ancient and central part of Amalfi.

The apartment is beautiful, roomy and well furnished. It has very high ceilings, and a lot of windows. Each window frames a piece of the charming panorama of Amalfi, as if it were a painting: the Cathedral, the small port and the sea, or the bunch of houses of the historical center, which clings to the rocky spur that surround it, or the terraces where lemons are grown.

When you climb to the terrace that covers the entire apartment, you will have this same panorama in all around you for 360 degrees: you will be able to see the entire Amalfi, from the sea to the narrow and steep valley that holds the village. The view of the Cathedral of Amalfi and of its famous bell tower, with the sea on the background, is particularly suggestive. At sunset, you will be able to see the golden tesserae of the mosaic of its façade glare under the last rays of the sun that sets on the sea, while the shadow of the evening grow longer and longer from the surrounding mountains.

You will reach the terrace along an external stairway. There you will find sun lounges, tables and chairs and many pots full of flowers.

From Appartamento Enrietta A you will be able to walk in five minutes to the square of the Cathedral of Amalfi, which is the "sitting room" of the village. Here there are elegant shops and excellent cafes, pastry shops and restaurants that setup their tables outdoor. You will find it very pleasant to stop here to enjoy a cappuccino, an Italian ice cream or a "delizia al limone" (a "lemon delight", the traditional cake of the Amalfi Coast ), in front of the splendid and imposing façade of the Cathedral.

If you walk for 50 more meters (55 yards) you will find the large Flavio Gioia square, with its promenade along the sea, the access to the beaches, and the bus station for the buses that connect all the villages along the coast, including Ravello and Positano , as well as Pompeii and Paestum . Here there is also the quay, where you will be able to board ferries or rent boats to visit the coast from the sea and reach Positano, Capri , Sorrento , Ischia , Naples , Salerno and other spots.

To stay at Appartamento Enrietta A you will not need a car. Public transportation is comfortable, cheap and efficient. If you have a car, you will be able to reserve a parking spot, to be paid locally.

At 100 meters (110 yards) there is also the quay, where you will be able to board ferries or rent boats to visit the coast from the sea and reach Positano, Capri, Sorrento, Ischia, Naples, Salerno and other spots.

  Central amalfi with a great view

  This apartment is indeed up about 180 steps and accordingly is unsuitable if you are unfit or mobility impaired. In addition, a hazard to watch for is the occasional deposit of dog excrement on the steps. The apartment is well appointed with a functional kitchen with a large frig/freezer and plenty of crockery. It lacks a dishwasher and if you want to drink good wine at home, a set of large quality wine glasses. The beds are comfortable and the bathroom adequate with a decent shower that drains well (unlike many in Italy).The roof top terrace is a delight (the photos on the website are accurate) and is perfect for admiring the sea view with a book in one hand and a Campari soda in the other. If you are noise intolerant, be aware that the nearby bell tower rings on the quarter hour from 7 am to 10 pm daily (this would be common to any property in cental amalfi). Other than that, there is some early evening noise (usually partying) from nearby apartments but this dies down and you will get a good night’s sleep. Check-in was easy as the caretaker andrea is nearby and speaks English. Once down the steps you are in the centre of amalfi and if you wish to eat in, there are a couple of supermarkets and plenty of fresh fruit and vegetable places, a fresh fish shop, latterias (the local cheese is superb) and alimentari selling deli items nearby. Two businesses close nearby worth patronising are da Gemma Trattoria at via Fra Gerardo 11 (I have posted my review on this website) and Bar Pasticceria Leone at via Lorenzo d’Amalfi 47, which has excellent espresso and good cakes. You will smell the cakes as you walk down the steps! The hard working managers antonio and Francesca are friendly and Francesca has enough English to explain what is in each of the pastries. By the end of the week, we felt part of the family when they greeted us as we arrived for our morning coffee. Overall, I was very happy with this choice and the group of three of us thay stayed agreed we would readily stay there again.

  Reward at the top of the stairs

  After about 180 steps from the street (we never agreed on the exact number of steps) we found a very nice apartment. Well cleaned and prepared, and very close to the descriptions and pictures given on the internet. We were warmly received, and no trouble with getting the keys, solving small problems during the stay, or getting our deposit refunded at departure.
  The apartment was well suited for our family of four aged 21 to 54. The views from the windows are fantastic, and the standard of equipment and furniture leaves nothing to be desired. We cooked several meals in the kitchen, and found it to function well, with all necessary utensils. Apart from all the stairs (you quickly learn to plan shopping ahead), it is perfectly situated in the town, with easy access to shopping and restaurants.
  The real gem of this apartment though, is the roof terrace. Very spacious, and with a view that gives you a feeling of being the king of Amalfi. The terrace was a favourite spot for us for breakfast, in the afternoons after swimming or sightseeing, and in the evenings for talking, sipping wine and looking out over the ocean.
  Amalfi, being a small city, is nice and lively. We went to Capri by boat and to Pompeii by bus during our one-week stay, both excursions are recommended.
  We found the service of Summer in Italy and the apartment very good, and recommend it without hesitation.
