Description from the manager
The Amalfi Coast, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a stretch of coastline on th southern coast of the Sorrentine peninsula in Southern Italy and dazzles with its mysterious grottos, graggy cliffs and and shimmering bays. It is one of the most enchanting tourist destinations in the world. The coast takes the name from the Amalfi city, core of the Coast not only geographically but also historically.
The Amalfi Coast is a land of picturesque coves, deep fjords, cliffs, caves, coves and small pebble beaches; is a paradise, where the bottom of the sea and earth create a unique picturesque landscape. Along the coast line you will fi...nd places like Positano, Ravello, Praiano, Conca dei Marini, Atrani, Minori, Maiori, Amalfi, Vietri , each of them stunning beauties with their own flair.
The peninsula of Sorrento overlooks the islands of Capri, Ischia and Procida of the Neapolitan Archipelago.
The villa, bought in 1970, was and still is the house of the proprietor of the Cappuccini Hotel in Amalfi; a historic name among Italian hotels, and one which was considered for many years to be one of the ten most famous hotels in the world.
The Cappuccini Hotel, has existed in more than two centuries, beginning as Hotel “alla Porta della Marina” (at Sea Gate) and later on as the Hotel “Canonica di San Pietro” (Saint Peter’s Monastery ), the hotel has had guests representatives of the most famous European noble families, as well as European and Italian politicians, artists, scientists and Nobel prize winners.
The oldest part of the villa was built at the end of the 17th century, as a rural farm-house in a dominant position on the bay of Amalfi, at 220 meters above sea level.
In 2008 and 2010 the building was completely restored and renovated in order to make it energy efficient and to create an independent air conditioning/heating system in every room.
A staircase with 54 steps links the garden to the Amalfi-Pogerola road.
Another staircase with 27 steps, links the garden to the wide terrace (110 m2 ) in front of the Holiday Home (95 m2 ); from the terrace there is a beautiful view encompassing the bay of Amalfi from Cape Vettica to Cape d’Orso, and also the opposite coast line from Salerno to Paestum, Acciaroli, Cape Licosa and Cape Palinuro.
On a clear day, with binoculars, you can see the temples of the Greek city of Paestum on the opposite coast.
Every room opens onto the terrace through a French window, and every bedroom has a bed or beds, a chest of drawers, bedside table/s, a wardrobe, a private bath room and electric power points; a link to via internet is available for guests.
The living room is equipped with a table with six chairs, cupboard, a display cabinet for dishes and glasses and a single sofa bed; the kitchen is equipped with a fridge-freezer, a washing machine, a dishwasher, electric hob and oven.
All the furnishings come from the original Cappuccini Hotel: one bedroom has a French double bed (130 cm wide) and furniture dating to 1938, while the other bedroom has two single beds dating to 1896 with the insignia of the Knights of the city of Meiningen in Saxony. This honor was awarded to Francesco Vozzi in 1895 by George II Duke of Saxon Meiningen as a reward for the hospitality he received during his holiday in the Cappuccini Hotel in 1893.
The furnishings include painted lunettes showing views of Amalfi , dating to 1950. Painted by Mario Avallone of Salerno, they were created as decorations for the windows of the dining room of the Cappuccini Hotel.
