A charming two bedroom self-contained cottage in the Waipara Valley wine region, overlooking the Limestone Hills vineyard and truffle plantation, with views up the spectacular Waipara Gorge. A perfect base for exploring the wineries of the Waipara Valley, dining at award-winning restaurants, within easy driving distance of Hanmer Springs, Kaikoura and Christchurch. Guests can join us on truffle hunts in winter (April to August), taste our wine (pinot noir and syrah), enjoy our large garden, use our pool and raid our kitchen garden and orchard...

The Shearer's Cottage is 10 minutes drive from Amberley and the State Highway, where the Waipara River flows out of its gorge. Nestling under Mt Brown, the property commands views up the river into the hills and down over the Waipara Valley and its many wineries.

This is a superb place for a holiday. The location is magical - overlooking a vineyard and trufflière, with a backdrop of limestone hills that are natural sculptures in their own right. (There is a sculpture park on the other side of the road where you can see art work with a different set of hills behind.) Gareth and Camille made us feel very welcome. The cottage is beautifully decorated and furnished with all that you need for cooking and relaxing - and it is roomy with a good size sitting room, master bedroom (bed really comfortable) and a second bedroom. There are lots of things to see in the country around - wineries to visit, two good restaurants (that we found - possibly more), and opportunities for hikes in unspoilt native forest and 'river walking' (you need those sandals with rubber soles and non-leather uppers). This was our second visit and we hope to go again.
