      Ideal location, cottage/flat needs updating

Left on 10/22/2012 for a stay in October 2012

The flat, above a chinese restaraunt in the centre of ambleside is ideally located for the local amenities and various walks. However, the courtyard to the rear is like picadilly circus with bin men trapesing through at 6am which set the local dogs off, cars abandoned all over the place, and even having to wait over an hour one day to go out as the local window cleaners and their equipment made access impossible! Also, the car parking space is feet away from the kitchen window of the Chinese Restaraunt, which they regulary use for deliveries and chucking rubbish through it, so park a few feet further back then you should be ok, and nice and tight to the wall to save getting your car damaged when they take deliveries though the narrow gap on their trolley. This said, you get what you pay for and if the cottage had been as comfortable as we had hoped, the problems at the rear wouldnt be mentioned. Firstly, as previously stated the heating system isnt upto much, it was reasonably mild when we stayed but a plug in electric heater is each room and an antiquated gas fire in the lounge wouldnt cut it in colder weather. And having to pay extra (i knew before hand) for gas and electricity whats that all about!?!? Just under £12 for the week, but i did turn the gas off as the owner likes it on permanently. The beds, we tried both doubles and they are the most uncomfortable i have ever tried to sleep in, we ended up spending every night in seperate beds as this was the only way. Also, towels are not provided so we had to spend £30 at a local shop on our first afternoon!
Overall, we enjoyed our stay as the weather was kind and the walking superb. This flat should be used as a cheap base and nothing more, or you will be disappointed. Its not a homely country cottage, its a basic, dated flat above a restaraunt. In fact, its like being transported back to the 1970's and being in my Grandma's old house. The owner is friendly, and the supplied hot beverages consists of 4 tea bags, 4 sachets of sugar, 3 coffee sachets and a pint of milk so dont get too excited!

      Nice Place, Rubbish Weather

Left on 12/08/2011 for a stay in October 2011

Cranford is very well situated near the centre of ambleside on the main road into town. The only slight downside being that it is above a Chinese Restaurant, so during the evening there is minor background noise. The apartment was very spacious with 3 good sized bedrooms as well as a lounge and kitchen. There is a flight of steps up to the entrance which may not suit retired folks or young children. The owner lives across the way and is available to greet you and easy to contact if needed.

Friendly and basic accommodation in perfect location.

Left on 09/22/2011 for a stay in June 2011

In the middle of bustling ambleside but with loads of walking straight from the door, we never once felt the need to use the car. The little Cinema just up the road was an uexpected bonus.

      Fantastic!!!

Left on 02/11/2010 for a stay in December 2009

Loved this place. It was such a lovely little cottage in the centre of Ambleside. The lady who owed it was VERY pleasant and ensured we had everything we needed and if we needed any help we could just give her a knock and she'd be their. Simple things such as having a pint of milk in the fridge for when we got their were an added bonus and all tea and coffee etc was provided.
Would definately recommend it and next time i go back i hope there's space left.

      At your convenience!

Left on 12/05/2009 for a stay in October 2009

A very friendly welcome from the very first phone call - sounded like home from home.

Good directions and a warm welcome with the essential tea, milk and sugar provided and the warm welcome continues. Friendly throughout the week but without being intrusive.

The flat was warm with everything needed for a comfortable stay. A great place to come back to after a day out and a great place to stay warm and cosy on those inevitable wet days.

Shops, take-aways, restaurants, pubs (food) all within a short stroll.

We left the car parked in the private space outside the flat most of the time and took walks starting from the flat or just a short bus ride away.

A great place to stay and being able to smoke in the dry on the wet and windy day was a great bonus.

Right in the middle of Ambleside; you couldn't want for a better location. Bars, food and views all within short walking distances.
