Stockholm, SwedenOutstanding! Not enough stars to rate this cottage!
Left on 04/21/2013 for a stay in April 2013
Pudding cottage should be the benchmark by which all holiday rentals are measured. There is nothing that could be done to improve this place and on top of that the owner is the most helpful, kind and thoughtful person imaginable. The cottage itself is a dream for children, which lots of toys and games available - also Nintendo and X-box. The cottage is clean, warm and cozy and set in grounds that are kept immaculately. The location is very handy for Lake Windemere and the Brockdale centre is opposite. Due to our children being very ill during our stay I was in constant contact with Jacky, the owner of this property - and nothing is too much trouble for her. She provided us with invaluable help and advice. We really cannot recommend this rental highly enough - it really is perfect! We sincerely hope to return.

Left on 02/27/2013 for a stay in February 2013
We stayed here for a short break with our 3 year old daughter. The cottage is amazing. If you have small children and are thinking of booking it - think no more as you will not find anything better in the Lake District. It has loads of lovely toys and books and Dvds and plastic plates and cutlery - we needn't have brought anything with us. It also has outdoor toys - ride ons and a small bike - and the garden is great for little ones to run around in. The bedrooms are lovely for children too - nice beds and lots of cuddly toys. It's also great for adults. The bed in the main bedroom is so comfortable - like sleeping on a fluffy cloud. The cottage is well equipped - we had everything we needed - and really luxurious. There are 3 bathrooms! It is well located half way between ambleside and Windermere - and the Lake District visitor centre (Brockhole) is a 5 minute walk away (even with a 3 year old) and it has loads to entertain children. We had good weather but even in bad weather it would have been great. As a final point - we would have loved Pudding even before having children. The child friendliness is a bonus but it is all very subtly done (toys are packed away discretely in big boxes and cupboards) and most of all it is just a lovely cottage.

Having just returned from a week at Pudding Cottage, we have nothing but praise for this cottage. We stayed with our young son (age 2) and could not have wished for a better place to stay. It is so well equiped and has everything you would need. included in the cottage were items such as a highchair, travel cots, stairgate, potty, books, Dvd's and toys. It was warm and cosy and the view into the garden and beyond is delightful. The complimentary membership to a local health club is a massive bonus and the location between Windermere and ambleside is perfect.
The best holiday cottage we have ever stayed in! -

Left on 11/21/2012 for a stay in November 2012
We chose Pudding cottage primarily for its suitability for children and its central location. On arrival our expectations were exceeded. An outstanding cottage, so much thought and detail has gone in to making this such a welcoming cosy home with a touch of luxury. Beautiful communal garden at the back of the house which was glorious to look out onto from the picturesque sitting room window - especially at this time of year! We needn't have brought any toys or books for our 17 month old son as his every wish was catered for, an abundance of toys and books to keep him entertained for a year! We cannot speak more highly of this cottage, we have stayed in many over the years and none have matched up to Pudding! There was just the 3 of us staying but this would be fabulous for a large family stay..very spacious without getting on top of eachother! Also to add the cottage is in a great location, Windermere and ambleside a few minutes drive in either direction plus the Brockhole visitor centre literally 5 min walk across the road-great facilities/gardens for families and little ones play areas. Jacky the host is so professional and friendly to communicate with too. We really didn't want to leave! We will be back next year and next time we will be staying for a week!

Pudding Cottage is a picture perfect holiday home with room for the whole family-children and Grandparents too. The location is stunning and secluded-yet only a few minutes walk from the Lake District visitor centre, with tree top walk and adventure playground, cafe and lovely shop. Ambleside is a few minutes drive away, and is so pretty. We loved Zefferellis with its fantastic vegetarian restaurant and fab cinema. Beatrix Potter's house is in easy reach.
And beautiful and varied Lake side and mountain walks are on your doorstop.

Bristolfamily-friendly 'home away from home' in perfect location
Left on 11/01/2012 for a stay in October 2012
I don't usually write reviews but it is the glowing reviews that convinced me to book Pudding Cottage in the first place so I'm paying it forward! We weren't disappointed. The location is excellent - so close to the visitors centre and Lake Windermere but tucked away enough to feel secluded. The inside was immaculately clean - it had a cosy, well decorated feel of a home. Set over two levels the ground floor entertaining space is separate from the upstairs sleeping space so perfect for putting the kids to bed and then not worrying about having to tip-toe around for the rest of the evening.
All that families with young children would need to bring would be a pushchair as the cottage is so well stocked with stair-gates, cot, high-chair, toys, plastic cups, bowls and spoons...and a handy washer-dryer. The garden out back is like a woodland wonderland.
We were blessed with mostly good weather, however on the odd drizzle afternoon the visitors centre - a stone's throw away across the road - was invaluable with its free soft play area, lovely outdoor park, cafe, lakeside walk (and if we had older kids - predator park and tree-top zip line adventure course). The little extras like access to the local private pool facilities go a long way. We ordered a tesco delivery to arrive on our first day - a great tip from Jacky as the range of goodies in the smaller local stores was limited. It was all really easy, making for a memorable holiday. We have recommended the cottage to friends and recommending it here online. -

Left on 08/09/2012 for a stay in July 2012
We recently enjoyed a fantastic week at Pudding Cottage 20-27th July 2012. Pudding Cottage is just perfect for a family holiday, there were six of us staying, four adults and two children(6 and 9) and there was plenty of space for everyone. We enjoyed sitting out on the patio enjoying a couple of typical rainy British barbecues and it was so peaceful. The Brockhole Visitor Centre is just a 5 minute walk over the road where the children loved the playground. There are so many things to do at the centre all set in such beautiful gardens. The highlight was the Treetop Trek walking through the trees and Zip wires down back to ground. The girls also loved the crazy golf and walking on water in bubbles! We had a fantastic boat trip also from the centre to the beautiful ambleside. The drives through such spectacular countryside were simply breathtaking and we honestly can't wait to come back and visit Pudding Cottage and the beautiful Lake District again one day.

Left on 07/15/2012 for a stay in July 2012
We stayed at Pudding Cottage between the 6th and 13th July 2012. We were looking for quality accommodation, in a good location that welcomed children. Pudding Cottage lived up to our expectations in every way, and our three young daughters absolutely loved it. Everything a child needs is available at no extra cost, but if you don't want any kids' stuff in evidence, do not fear, as most if it is discreetly stored under the staircase/ bedroom wardrobes, or in an attoman in the sitting room. A leisure pass to a nearby hotel was included in the rental and this was a great addition to the activities we were able to do when it was rainy. This was our first visit to the Lake district, so the location was ideal for reaching all of the main attractions in ambleside, Windemere and
Kendal in no time. A free adventure playground only 5 minutes walk away was rather handy! Overall, this really is the sort of self catering cottage you hope to find when searching the Internet, but in truth is rarely found. The owners couldn't be more helpful and genuinely view children as valued guests.

Left on 06/27/2012 for a stay in June 2012
What a great find! There are so many cottages to choose from in the Lake District, but this one is a real gem. We stayed there in June with our little girl (2.5 yrs). We actually didn't need to take anything with us - there were a lot of toys, stairgate, potty, toilet seat, bibs, plastic plates and cutlery and lots more for babies. Pretty much everything you might need was there. Also the close proximity to Brockhole Visitor Centre was fantastic. It was a very short walk (5 mins max even with little legs) and there is a great adventure playground there, child-friendly cafe, indoor play and beautiful grounds. You can also get the boat to ambleside and Windermere from there, so we actually left the car at the cottage most days which was a lovely change. Even in the car though, Windermere, Ambleside and Grasmere were all within a 10 mins drive. The cottage itself is first class and very much a home-from-home. It was a very peaceful and comfortable place to stay and exceptionally clean. It was somewhere you could happily spend a rainy week in the Lakes watching Dvd's on the gorgeously comfy big sofas. High recommended, with or without children.

This was our 5th visit to perfect Pudding Cottage...we have already provisionally booked for next year..
We are an extended family group, ages 7 to 96,and there really is something for everyone.
The cottage is superbly well equipped and maintained..the large,farmhouse-style kitchen is a delight to cook and eat in, and the bedrooms are beautifully decorated and furnished..Extra special touches like Pudding Cottage 'own-label' soaps and lotions, shortbread and chocolates are so welcoming...
The location half-way between ambleside and Windermere, and a short walk to Brockhole Visitor Centre, with all its attractions could not be better..
My family all enjoyed the near-by included facility of LowWood Leisure Centre..lovely pool and outdoor hot-tub!
The caring, friendly service from owner Jacky helps to make this a very special holiday cottage... -

We stayed in Pudding Cottage for a week in mid-February, with our two children (two years two months, and eight months old). The cottage was equipped with everything we could possibly want, and cupboards revealed a wealth of supplies for older children. The owners couldn't be more helpful, making this a relaxing and stress free place to stay (crucial with small children).
The health club we had complimentary membership of was wonderful, and Pudding Cottage is fantastically located, close to a whole range of indoor and outdoor activities, yet very peaceful. We didn't get much chance to explore the latter (February weather) but will definitely be returning to this wonderful accommodation -

We stayed at the cottage for a week in March. We had a great time! The cottage was really well preented, all new and mod cons. The best part was that it had everything you need for a holiday with children. Our son (aged 17 months) had a choice of indoor and outdoor toys, plus there was a cot bed, sheets, high chair and baby kitchen wear. It really made life easy. It is also in a really convenient location in the lakes - close to ameneties (supermarket, takeaways) and lots of family friendly walks and activites.

I can't speak highly enough of this delightful cottage situated in a quiet location opposite Brockholes visitor centre between ambleside and Windermere.
Biscuits and chocolates from the owners were a lovely welcoming touch.
The cottage was beautifully clean and freshly decorated throughout. It was cosy, warm and very comfortable. The equipment was fantastic, with plenty of good quality crockery, as well as plastic plates, bowls and cutlery for the children. The kitchen was already equiped with everything you would need, but mid way through our stay the owner kindly delivered a slow cooker as well- perfect for those with young children who need to eat early but who don't want to spend the afternoon tied to the kitchen!
Our 16 month old son was delighted with the large toy box and trike. There were plenty of toys and books for children of all ages, some dressing up clothes, board games, Dvd's and an x-box (for the grown ups I think!)
We enjoyed Brockholes which is just over the road and free to enter. It has a simple soft indoor play area, with a wonderful outdoor adventure playgroud for the older children.
There is so much to do locally I can't list it all! We enjoyed the gym membership, and swimming in the pool. There are pleasant walks from the door. Ambleside and Windermere are only a couple of miles away. Rufty Tufty's soft play area in ambleside was a big hit with our little one! There are plenty of good pub lunch / dinner / drink options close by for real ale lovers too.
We will definitely be booking again soon! -

Where do I start? This was a fantastic cottage and we have already booked our next stay! We had read the wonderful reviews but now we've seen it for ourselves. We have three children under two and this cottage was so well equipped. There were high chairs, cots, changing equipment, cutlery, plates, stair guards and most importantly - toys. This was not only fabulous for families, the dvds, books and games consoles make it great for a romantic getaway. We enjoyed our evenings in. I've recommended it to all my friends. The small touches like the welcome chocs and biscuits and the Pudding Cottage soaps and gel made it like being in a hotel. The view from the cottage is simply divine. We saw birds and squirrels every day and it is so unobscured. The visitors centre is a short walk away and our son loved visiting in the morning to play. The cottage is well located and we visited different parts of the Lakes from here. The rocking chair in the lounge is a nice touch and the kitchen is big enough for everyone to eat around the table. The master bedroom is impressive with a TV and DVD player and the other twin rooms are well decorated and cosy. I have so many good things to say about this cottage! There are also a range of boardgames to play. Our son loved the trike. We like luxury and this cottage was of an extremely high standard.

Another tremendous stay at the best Cottage in the Lake District. Actually it is the best place we have stayed in-anywhere! Lovely and relaxing, beautifully appointed and meticulously clean.
The only gripe we have is the kids don't want to leave! We would go out for the day and after about an hour, 'can we go back to Pudding'. So there is something wonderful for a 4 and 8 year old as well.
It's an easy choice for us all, we miss it and need to go more often. Try it for yourselves you won't be disappointed, wonderful place, wonderful location! -

Interior decor is of the highest standard, making our stay so comfortable, especially the beautiful bathrooms & the orange & cardoman shower gel!!! Fully equiped kitchen enabled us to enjoy some great food, rather than having to eat out all the time, which can prove expensive in the lakes. The location is delightful with deer, ducks & wild birds being frequent visitors to the cottange. Scenery breathtaking. I would definitly book Pudding cottage again.

Our second stay at Pudding Cottage in less than a year...it is a fantastic find! We have 2 very young children and our 3 year old is like a child in a sweet shop when he arrives, tugging out all the different toys stored away discreetly in the cottage. The cottage is spacious, beautifully decorated and furnished with a peaceful outlook where, on our second visit, we saw deer and had daily visits from a pair of ducks! We love the fact that we can wander over to Brockhole Visitor Centre for the playground and new indoor spft play centre and also catch a boat to ambleside for a pub lunch and enjoy a drink - no driving day! Dealing with Jacky, the owner, is a pleasure as she is very efficient and accessible. Highly recommended - we too would like to go again to this stunning part of our country.

Left on 02/11/2011 for a stay in February 2011
We have just returned from our first stay in pudding cottage. Well, what a delightful and luxury cottage it is! The photos on the internet don’t do it justice. It’s fresh, clean, modern, with just about every convenience, and fully stocked with everything you could dream of!! It’s located in a superb location, nice and peaceful, but only minutes away from ambleside with its delightful shops!
Prior to our trip I must say our criteria to look for a perfect cottage was set high because we did not want a sterile holiday cottage but a luxurious standard basically a home away from home so we decided to look on Trip advisor and quickly found Pudding cottage based on the best rating given and the excellent reviews of all their previous guests. I must say we were so so happy here and Trip advisor really did a good job for us finding the cottage. There is so much attention to detail and much effort has gone into creating the perfect home away from home.
Membership of Low Wood leisure club was a real bonus and we made use of it every day during our stay.
The cottage is extremely kids friendly from stocked full toy boxes to dollhouses, also outdoor trikes, next time we must bring our kids with – they’d have an absolute beano!! The large safe back garden is a real pro, kids could play out there, and you can watch them from the window!
We had an amazing short holiday at Pudding Cottage, and we can’t wait to come back again!!!
Jacky is so helpful, nothing is too much for her!!!
We would highly recommend Pudding Cottage to everyone, young and old alike!!! -

We spent a fantastic week at pudding cottage. This was our first holiday with our 1 year old, and we couldn't have chosen better. The owners clearly understand what you may need when away from home with small people, from toys (including a toddler trike), and childrens cuttlery/plates, to black out blinds on the childrens rooms. There is a stair gate, highchair, and two travel cots.
The cottage is opposite the Lake District visitors centre which has a nice cafe, adventure playground and walks by the lake.
The cottage is also great for adults, and we thoroughly enjoyed our time. We used the leisure club included in the price of the cottage for a lovely swim - and next time I'll attend a class there too!
Our daughter took her first steps on this holiday, so for more than one reason we will always remember pudding cottage! -

This year was our third stay at Pudding Cottage and it never disappoints!! Beautifully decorated with everything you could possibly need!! Our children love coming here as does my mum!! As soon as we arrive and unpack I can feel the tension disappear. It is such a relaxing place to stay with the lovely safe garden, wild birds, ducks and occasional appearance of deer! An unsurpassed attention to detail with childrens toys, dvds, books, games, the owners really have thought of everything. There are so many good walks straight from the cottage and a fantastic visitor centre (Brockhole) just down the lane and across the road, yet the cottage is so private. The location could not be better, in between Windermere and ambleside and the boat at Brockhole is a lovely way to travel on a nice day. Regardless of weather there is plently to do, my husband took the kids to a climbing wall in Kendal on a wet day and now they have taken it up as a sport!!! Lots of very good restaurants nearby, our favourite is the 'Drunken Duck' for a night when granny is babysitting. The apple Pie in ambleside is really good for cooked breakfasts and lunch and shopping at Booths in Windermere is excellent for groceries, fresh breads and deli stuff!! I cannot recommend Pudding Cottage highly enough, we fell in love with it at first sight and hope to return soon, would love to visit in autumn or winter!

Pudding Cottage is just magical, and my whole family from 4 to 94 just love it.The care and attention to detail makes for a very special holiday experience.Everything from the comfy beds, beautiful linens and personalised toiletries is special.
The superbly equipped "farmhouse" kitchen with its large family table is so sociable,we sit there for ages putting the world to right over dinner. We buy our groceries at "Booth's"in Windermere,an excellent supermarket, definitely more Waitrose than asda!
The wildlife round the cottage is a big attraction, birds of all shapes and sizes, ducks who come into the kitchen if you are not quick enough with breakfast, squirrels, horses and if you are lucky, even deer.
Brockhole, across the road, has an amazing adventure play-ground,great cafe and lovely walks down to the Lake.
The access to Low Wood swimming pool and spa is a real bonus, what a fantastic view from the terrace there.
Best of all is friendly, helpful attention from Jacky.I cannot imagine anyone not loving Pudding Cottage, from keen fell and mountain walkers to those of us who enjoy a ramble round the delightful shops in ambleside..It is simply a joy.. -

We have stayed at Pudding Cottage pretty much in every season many times. We live in a very private luxury detached home and I'm used to every covenience, I have high standards & Pudding cottage doesn't disappoint. Dishwasher and washer/dryer in the spacious well equiped kitchen and spacious cosy lounge. Beautiful views onto the safe enclosed huge private rear garden. Our little ones play so safely and happily there. My parents pop up for a few days too and babysit while we have a evening meal out and tackle a few good climbs in the day.Every year the owners take on board visitor comments and make the cottage even better. There are lots of lovely little toys for little ones ( little toddler ride on, dolls house, crafty stuff dressing up stuff, toddler swimming float vest etc etc... travel cot, highchair etc Lots of Dvds and books for young and old. I feel a bit reluctant recommending Pudding Cottage as I don't want the place booked before I can make my booking... when Lakelovers bring out their brochure in the autumn I'm usually first to book ! It's not just me that loves the place, the visitor books are crammed with super comments from travellers UK & worldwide. When we relax in the kitchen or lounge we love to watch the birds feed, sometimes a duck waddles up to the back patio. There are lovely horses in the nearby field and my children have had a super time simply picking wild blackberries/raspberries that grow nearby. Brilliant location , close to Brockhole with it's fab views, cafe and great little outdoor play area for youngsters, a few minutes in the car and you are in the heart of ambleside where you can go to the movies, get provisions, pharmacy, post office etc. I stop off in Booths as soon as I arrive in the Lake district (near Windermere train station) - it's a bit like UK Waitrose - ie excellent quality.

Left on 10/01/2010 for a stay in June 2010
We have tried countless cottages in the UK and Europe and nothing comes even close to this cottage. It is amazingly clean, the location is superb and the cottage has everything. It is so comfortable and welcoming we nearly rang a locksmith, to change the locks so we could stay permanently.
It is situated in a great place that is so relaxing but never far away from countless things to do. A lovely walk about half a mile away to the lakes edge, and a great and usually quiet play park for the kids on the way. An excellent pub less than a mile away with great food. Also very good country house restaurants nearby.
Back to the cottage though it is excellent for families with lots of books and toys, and a very safe grassed area where you can watch the kids have fun. You can watch them with a glass of wine (or a coffee). I think though judging by the guest comments that any type of family or friend group, either with or without kids have enjoyed this fantastic place.
We are sticklers for cleanliness and this is the only place -ever- that we have not gone to get cleaning wipes or the like to clean properly. It is immaculate and starts the holiday off as it should nice and relaxed.
Our boys loved it, and like us would go back without thought.
The bedrooms and bathroom and en suite are beautiful with great space.
The kitchen/diner is nice and large with all the appliances required and the lounge is fantastic.
A leisure centre pass is provided and that is an excellent place just a short drive away.
The owners are really nice people with excellent taste in quality furnishings, no short cuts on quality here.
We have stayed at places in the lakes that are more expensive, and they were very nice but could not match this.
All in all a fantastic holiday in a fantastic place, we will be back without a doubt. -

What a fantastic cottage! I have just returned from another stay at Pudding Cottage and yet again it was perfect! I would highly recommend staying here, the surroundings are beautiful at any season and there are lots of walks suitable for all the family, and one leads to a nice little pub!. The cottage is definitley 5 stars, it is very well equipped with a washing machine and dishwasher - perfect luxury! there is everything u need there- comfy sofas to lounge around on and dvds and games for the kids! it is very clean, beds are comfy and rooms are gorgeous - i have no complaints whatsoever. Perfect location for wonderful scenery and not far from the hustle and bustle of ambleside. I would certainly recommend this cottage as you will not be disappointed!

The cottage was well positioned - not too isolated to feel unsafe, but totally accessible to some great walks and rambles. Cosy yet contemporary interior, beautifully furnished and neutrally decorated - a real home from home! We all felt really comfortable there. Most importantly, the house was equipped with everything possible to keep both children and adults entertained - even on days when the weather was disappointing. Particularly liked the sweet little courtyard garden open to the countryside at the rear - marvellous for al fresco dining or a G & T or two! May ask about bringing the dog next time!
