Very central for everything with the added luxury of parking right outside your door! Only criticism is we could have done with more kitchen cooking utensils like a veg draining spoon etc. A proper corkscrew would be good! There were no cleaning products available to keep the cottage clean, so had to buy some. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and we were lovely and warm at nights, I loved the roll top bath!!! after a long walk! Recommend! Read more

This was a last minute booking for us. Great little cottage, very well placed for all the amenities ambleside has to offer. The only downside was that my partner is 6ft 5" so his head was scraping the kitchen ceiling (the ceiling is fairly low here)so not the best option for taller people. The kitchen could also do with a couple of extra pieces of glassware for microwave use.
We are the type of people who are out all day hiking so for us everything was comfortable enough. Even the busy road outside quietens completely down during the night. Read more
We are delighted you have enjoyed your stay at the property.
Thank you for your comments regarding the glassware for microwave use in the kitchen, I have forwarded this comment to the owner of Kirkstone Cottage, who will take this board.
We hope to welcome you back to Kirkstone Cottage or another of our Lakes Cottage Holidays properties in the near future.

The cottage was great, could not ask for a better location very short walk to the town center, loads of great pubs close by that offered great meals, and if you don't want a pub meal there's fish and chip shops 5 mins walk from the cottage. The cottage its self was very clean and tidy, the bedroom was spacious and the kitchen was good and clean too. having never stayed in a holiday cottage before I wasn't sure what I would need to take but pretty much everything was supplied, clean towels and every kitchen utensil you could need was already supplied.

Really nice, comfortable cottage right in middle of ambleside. Has everthing you would need. Noise from the road not too bad. Would definitely stay again.
Very relaxing holiday

We found the cottage was fitted out to a high standard, very clean and in a very good location near to all the amenities in ambleside.
The only issue we had was as the cottage is on the main road, there is quite a lot of traffic noise otherwise it would have been five stars.

The location of the cottage is fantastic. We parked the car and never used it until we left. The pub up the road the golden rule is great very friendly and really nice beer. The cottage had everything you needed the only thing we would have liked was instructions on how to use the heating. It had everything you needed.

We loved the location of this cottage because it is in the centre of ambleside and therefore on the doorstep for all the restaurants and pubs. It's also a great starting point for numerous walks into the fells. The only downside we found was the road noise-something we're not used to living where we do. However, the bed was so comfy it was easy to ignore the noise and we enjoyed a fabulous long weekend away from the kids!!
Ideal short break

The cottage was beautiful, everything was ready for when I arrived. The shops were easy to get to and its a perfect location if you want to use public transport or walk.
I loved the bedroom and bath. There are so many nice things to say and not enough room to write them.

Having chosen the lakes as our destination to wind down following our marriage we came across this cottage in ambleside and our were really pleased with our decision. The property was neat, tidy and very cosy, perfect for a couple who want to come back to relax after a day out in the lakes. No complaints and would recommend to everyone. We're already planning another trip!
I love it here

Great little cottage. Fantastic location. Kitchen well equipped. Only slight grumble is one of the tiles in the living area has chipped and its gaffer taped over which looks a bit naff and the bed is far too soft for my liking - very minor tho great place to stay.

The cottage is ideally positioned for walkers, being right at the bottom of the Kirkstone Pass. It is also a 5 minute walk from the centre of ambleside.
It was very clean and everything you could need was provided. The kitchen was very well equipped and the bed was very comfy. There was a slight noise of traffic, especially at peak times but that did not really detract from the overall experience.
We had a wonderful 5 days there and would definitely stay there again.
Nice cottage, very comfy bed

Service was ok - as in booking was not problematic and the key was where they said it would be. The cottage was clean and nice - the bed was amazingly comfortable - we slept very well. Even though it's on the main road the noise wasn't troublesome at all.
The shower door was propped against the wall and there was no note to say if the shower was usable or not - in the end it was absolutely fine - but there was a bit of communication lacking. Also the yard by the front door had a huge bin in it and the bin shed was full of other stuff so we couldn't put it out of sight.
It's not really a criticism, but, for me, the house felt a bit unhomely somehow. I prefer places to be a bit more personal - eg someone actually there when we arrive to show us where things are etc.
I'm also hoping that soon it will become normal to have wifi in a self-catering cottage. I don't think it is standard yet so I didn't really expect it - but one day ... please!
It is very well positioned in ambleside - which I absolutely love - my favourite place in the lakes - great food, great walks, etc.
All in all we had a brilliant time.

We are delighted to say that Brian and I had a lovely week in ambleside and were delighted with Kirkstone cottage. It had all we needed and we were really thrilled to find the beautifully decorated Xmas tree which was all lit up on our arrival. Despite the inclement weather we were able to fit in some great walks around the area.Xmas lunch was eaten at the Queens Hotel in nearby Troutbeck and we can certainly recommend it, it was wonderful. All in all we had a smashing time and were reluctant to leave the cottage at the end of the week. Shall return!
Very enjoyable despite the heavy almost continuous rain!

All arrangements worked well. Snug, attractive, well supplied property. Lack of towels needs to be identified more clearly. Leaving the cooker wall plug 'on' would help the first time of using the oven. Great position for exploring and walking. We didn't need our car for the 3 days we were there.

Kirkstone Cottage was perfect.
It was beautifully decorated and furnished- the bathroom was gorgeous and we loved the flooring and under- floor heating.
It is amazingly situated in the heart of ambleside. Don't be put off by the main road location- we had no problems with either people or road traffic noise disturbing us despite the proximity of the main road/ main car park etc.
The parking space was adequate and convenient.
The check- in was brilliant- just turn up, get your key and let yourself in. No hassle whatsoever.
The cottage had every facility you could dream of- toilet and kitchen rolls, maidens to hang wet clothes/ towels on, a hoover in the cupboard and brush and mop etc in case you needed to tidy up after muddy boots.
My only criticism was the mattress- far too soft for my liking, but this seems to be the case wherever I sleep other than my own bed.
My partner and I loved this cottage so much we fully intend to hoilday in it again. We already tried to return to Kirkstone Cottage in October this year but it was booked up! I cannot recommend Kirkstone Cottage enough as a self- catering hoilday cottage (and we've stayed in a good few of varying quality now!).
