No Wi-Fi unless stood up to the window, dvd stuck in tv, managed to retrieve with the aid of a new credit card which had a little sticky patch. Sofa uncomfortable. The café and b&b; was closed all week. Smelt very musty in the bathroom. Excellent position in ambleside but no views!! Read more

Accomodation was very much as described, clean and comfortable.
Very convenient for town centre.
Only a couple of things though.
The images of the place don't give a realistic impression of it's location. It's actually built in a very small area at the back of the owners guest house.
This meant that the described "parking for one vehicle" was dependant on who was already parked in the back yard. I would have had no problem with it being advertised as having no parking available as there were plenty of close places to park. However it is described as having parking. Minor point but a bit of a niggle all the same.
Also, while the accomodation was very well equiped and comfortable, the long lists of "do's & don'ts" didn't exactly make us feel like it was our home for those few days.
But despite my niggles, it was still a very nice place. Read more

Centrally located and well equipped apartment in ambleside

The arrangements were very straightforward for booking right through to key collection and deposit. The apartment is clean, spacious and well equipped and met our needs perfectly for our week in ambleside. The location is fantastic and the parking space really useful. We only used the car once in the week as there are buses and boats to other Lakes destinations and ambleside is a great base for a week's stay.
The best part was the location and the way the apartment was equipped. My only criticism is the lack of a bath mat in the bathroom which could get quite slippery.
Excellent location in ambleside and within easy access to all th

The Retreat is a small apartment, which suited 3 adults for the few days we stayed in ambleside and contained most of the basic facilities, including bath and shower. However, there is no freezer and could be a problem, if you were planning to cook some meals
The apartment has its own car parking space and is in close proximity to all the amenities, shops, restaurants and cafes including a bus stop, all within walking distance. There is also no garden or somewhere to sit outside.
Angela, who managed the book shop/cafe in the adjacent property, was friendly and helpful on arrival and continued to be so during our stay.
We found ambleside to be quite expensive for eating out, and there were only a few places offering basic pub grub, which were also extremly busy.
Saying that, the location of the town and the property, for sightseeing and other activities in the Lake District more than compensates, as the place is centralised. We particulary, liked Ullswater and Hawkshead.
Excellent location, comfy apartment

This apartment is wonderfully located in the centre of ambleside within easy reach of restaurants and shops. There is parking directly outside for one car, which in ambleside is very helpful. If you want to use the bus the bus stop is just across the street. Everything provided that you could need. There was always loads of hot water and loved the opportunity to have either a bath or shower! Great to have breakfast cooked on your last morning too, to set you up on the journey home!
Beautiful, Well Placed little Gem. Nearly perfect!

I didn't expect much when i booked this little appartment. Its Located slap in the town centre which i wouldn't normaly like but when we arrived we were gob-smacked at the place.
Its tucked away in a quiet little courtyard behind a cafe run by a lady called angela. (who is one of the nicest people i have ever met (the free breakfast was top notch).
By the photos i had seen i was expecting a fairly average place, but when we first looked around we were surprised at how well sized, decorated and lit the place was.
The bed was extremely comfortable, however. I hope you like a Very soft matress!
The kitchen was exceptional and the bathroom too.
-I'm glad i made the bold choice (against my normal ideals) to be situated in the town centre, there are plenty of shops within 30 seconds walk and plenty of highly recommendable restaurants.(But the appartment is still Very tucked away).
Now to the bad points.
-the "sofa" is so uncomfortable it is Unuseable!
-On the night we arrived i parked in the little car port under the building.I woke up the following morning to find i had been blocked in the courtyard by a red van... with no owner in sight. All day.
luckily, i hadn't planned on using the car that day otherwise the first day to our holiday would have been completely wasted. But still, had an emercancy cropped up we were stuck. All day. No number in the van. No note for someone to contact to move it. Nothing.
-There is a resolve to this. Don't park under the car port. put it in front of the garage and the van goes further into the courtyard. (Still ticked me off an awful lot! Rude and utterly inconsiderate)
The appartment is sold as having Wifi access. I work remotely so i was relying on this Wifi access to complete a couple of tasks over the week... You guessed it. No Wifi! A bit of a miss-sell i think.
-Those are my only three grumbles, but we can all expect a couple of hickups. Overall. A Perfect little getaway. Highly recommended. I will probably return.

Ideally located in the heart of ambleside, ideal for walkers wanting easy access to the peaks, whilst remaining in walking distances for restaurants, bars, shops and cinema. I was worried with it being right in the center it might be quite noisy at night, but it was quiet (it was March and freezing though). As with all ambleside town centre properties their is a slight parking issue, the drive is shared & occasionally blocked by the neighbouring B & B. We were their for a week in March and had minimal problems though and it wouldn't put me off returning to the property. The cottage is well equipped, with everything you could want in the kitchen. It doesn't have a hair dryer, the built in DVD player didn't always work and the sofa is uncomfortable if you wanted to spend hours on it, but that is about the only negative I would give it. The property is well heated and there is instant hot water. There is a reasonable chance that I would return to this property out of peak season
Interesting week in ambleside

The flat is ideally situated in the centre of the town for the pubs, shops, restaurants etc, and also to be able to undertake walks without using any transport. Note however that the that town centre can get noisy on Friday & Saturday nights after late night opening of pubs & clubs.
It is reasonably equipped and would be best for a couple, the water pressure in the flat is excellent and the shower is phenomenal !, the advertised WiFi is pathetic and virtually unusable, we managed to log onto an alternative BT network which worked okay. In my opinion it should not be advertised as being equipped with WiFi.
Parking is very tight, there appears to be an allocated open garage space connected to the flat, this was occupied by another vehicle on our arrival and the Manager said he would park my car for me later when it became free, I was reluctant to allow this but had no alternative. Whilst parking my car the Manager damaged it, I am still trying to get nearly £500 needed for the repair from him after nearly 2 months. My advice is to make sure you do not allow anyone to park or move your vehicle at this property.
I would not use this property again for this reason.

Vary Clean and bright. Good size rooms. could be firmer.Parking is not described clearly in advert as it is shared with employees as cafe and guest house and local business but with chats with the other parties did not cause any problem. Wireless Broadband using an Ipad did not work in the apartment. By standing outside the back of the cafe a signal was reasonable. Owners pointed out some repairs that needed to be carried out when we got there eg the fridge needed a bracket as it had not been fitted at installation. Location is great very central and close to restaurants etc. Would stay at the Retreat again

We had an absolutely fantastic time staying in "The Retreat". Extremely well equipped and comfortable. The location was perfect and everything was so easily accessible. The staff and owners of the adjacent business and of "The Retreat" could not have been friendly or more welcoming. We cannot wait to return for another holiday here and would highly recommend to anyone.
Enjoyed our stay

Well equipped house which was nice & clean. Stayed there with my husband & 8 year old daughter & there are plenty of activities in the area. Can thoroughly recommend activity centre at Keswick where we did indoor rock climbing & archery also there is a lovely swimming pool at Keswick. The only downside was that the parking was sometimes a problem as it is a small courtyard & there are other cars parked there from the cafe & guest house. Also the ground floor of The Retreat has the cafe storeroom so they let themselves in the outside door whenever they want, one night it was 10 o'clock when it sounded like someone was breaking in! Obviously you have a key to lock the inner door as well but i would prefer not to be disturbed. On the plus side the owners were very welcoming & took time to chat & the cooked breakfast on the last morning was delicious.

Amazing ambleside decribes this holiday beautifully! The apartment was superb; very clean and in a perfect location in the town.
The property is approx three years old and is nicely furnished and well equipped. There is car parking, which once navigated proved to be a god send - especially when packing and unpacking.
The public transport is excellent and the open top buses stop at the end of the road which can take you to Grasmere amongst other places.
Nearby attractions which are a must are Hill Top (home of Beatrix Potter) and Dove Cottage (home of William Wordsworth) plus trips on Windermere, Coniston and Ullswater.
The owners of The Retreat were very helpful and accomodating offering a free cooked breakfast on the day of departure. Excellent.
Very Nice apartment
