We enjoyed our stay at Luke's hoose apart from the wet weather but that's the lakes. Very comfortable beds, sofas etc, shower room too small and the kitchen wasn't too clean but overall a very pleasant stay. Very good location. Read more

Ideally located for the centre of ambleside. Easily accessible to local walks, shops, cafes, restaurants etc. and a great spot to explore the rest of the Lakes.
Can forget the car and explore the walks/fells locally (can park in the owners car park space close by - parking is a premium here so the available free parking space is ideal when renting this cottage).
Although not an issue for us, access to the cottage is a ok, but may be a little tricky for the elderly/infirm as access is via a short but steep path from the main lane. Again unloading is ok but you will have to temporarily park at the bottom of the path to unload (if you have a lot of stuff to unload as we did for a family of 4 and a big dog!), and then to move the car to the parking space 2 minutes away.
Once inside the property, if you like old character properties with modern touches, modern kitchen, bathrooms, good bedrooms & beds, and to top it all a great roof top view of the town and hills beyond from the comfy lounge, then this is superb and was ideal for us!
No dishwasher was my only (and petty) gripe!
As we were visiting in a cold and wet February, we didn't use the patio in front of the house which would be great for the dry summer months with a glass of wine looking at the same views as you can from the lounge.
Will definitely recommend and will be visiting again !! Read more

I have holidayed in Lake district for 40 years. first time I have spent time in ambleside Town, plenty of places to go, good food.
Took my dog water left out everywhere. 30 minute
walk to Lakeside to ferries.
The House perfect very clean spacious lovely walk in shower,
Short steep hill to get to house. should have been 5 star
Directions through town very hard to follow all one way streets
Car park not very well sign posted.
Would be better with map.
Thank you for lovely holiday. The Mahony's
Good location; however, some issues did arise.

Luke's Hoose's location in ambleside is good, with nice views from the front bedrooms. However, transporting luggage from the car park to the house is hard work (steep hill). Not suitable for the disabled or elderly as the staircases inside are steep as well.
The directions provided for finding the house were useless.
The house itself is basically quite nice. However, the shower room had obviously not been cleaned and was smelly. The arrangements re towels was unacceptable. Not only were we asked to pay extra for "the washing" but had to leaave an extra deposit to make sure we return them. Given the basic GBP 100 deposit for damages we had already been charged that seems unreasonable. Having to pick up the towels in and return them to Windermere (about 6 miles away with difficult parking) was awkward and similarly unreasonable. Given these problems we thought the price for three nights (already offered at a discount due to late booking) was steep.

The house has a bench and table on a terrace overlooking the town that catches the afternoon sun, just magical. The house is well equipeed and comfortable.
Don't be caught out by only a single parking space and a very steep approach from the road - difficult for elderly or infirm.
Couldn't be nearer shops open all hours and great walks on the fells.
