Description from the owner
Experience staying in a luxurious traditional antique Javanese house (Rumah Joglo) at Lipah Beach, the most beautiful and user friendly of the string of fishing villages strung along the Amed coast. It is the only sand beach on the entire Amed coast.
The villa, originally from Kudus in Java, has been rebuilt and faithfully restored with the addition of a superb western kitchen and garden bathroom facilities. The furnishings are all period Javanese antiques. The building doors, windows, pillars and ceilings are all intricately carved. The Joglo is reputed to be in the vicinity of 300 years old.

What can I say ... it's just perfect!
The house itself and the furniture give you the feeiling to be in a fairytale, as it is all traditional indinesian style originals from the past chosen with love up to the smallest detail. In contrast, all the amneties, a European would look for - as the pool, the fridge - are very modern.
The staff really tries to make you happy all day: We had several trips around eastern Bali, a massage and an in house meal organised and even a spontaneous moto ride to the next aTM (sounds close, but it was quite an excursion ;-).
We started our trip around Bali here and it was really the most beatiful accomodation of our whole three weeks.
A special extra is the wonderful garden, where you can familiarize with a big variety of Balinese flora - ask for a little guided tour it's really interresting! -

A truly unique villa at the best sandy beach in amed. Botanical gardens, maintained to perfection. Jogolo Villa decorated with the most exquisite antiques. Amazing. The salt pool in front of villa another plus to this magical place. And of course all the staff - so helpful, kind, gentle and forever smiling.
Thank you, Nyoman, wife Wayan Manis (best meals), Made (kindred garden-soul), Wayan helper and all the children especially Li Li for her fun and happiness. A truly memorable week. Friends forever. Terima Kasih. Roger & Adrienne -

My husband and I stayed at Villa aroha for 6 days and had an absolutely fantastic time. The staff were exceptional and couldn't do enough to ensure that all our needs were met from the pick up at the airport to the final farewell. One of the highlights of the stay would have to be the birthday party they arranged for my husband - it was a night we will never forget. This is a wonderful place for couples to recapture romance.

Our second stay at Villa aroha amed and even better than the first (if that's possible!) The Villa is a wonderfully eclectic blend of traditional Bali with modern conveniences and luxiourious comfort. It is impeccably clean with beautifully kept grounds. As I floated around the stunning pool on my inflatable bed I enjoyed the abundant birdlife attracted by the huge lush tropical gardens surrounding the Villa. Coconuts, bananas, mangoes, kaffir limes, jack fruit and papayas were all ripening on the trees. Step outside the peace and tranquility of this little haven and you are in the midst of traditional Bali village life. The beach is literally over the road and the snorkelling is amazing. The reef continues for miles with endless species of gorgeous tropical fish. We love this place and look forward to returning next year. Thoroughly recommend!

Left on 03/04/2012 for a stay in January 2012
We stayed in Villa aroha for five weeks during our two month exploration of Indonesia. It is a very beautiful villa, but what really makes it special is the team that look after it and therefore the visitors. Nyoman, Manis, Made and Wayan are attentive and incredible to be around. Nyoman took us on extraordinary adventures and never seemed to tire.
One thing to note is that you are in the middle of a village and are therefore surrounded by the noise of life. We are early birds so it never bothered us but the cockerels, mopeds and music start up before dawn.
Amed as an area is a sprawl of houses, restaurants and hotels along a long piece of rugged coastline. The sand is dark, sea clear, and snorkelling fun. Villa aroha is across the road from the beach and the path to the beach is a local thoroughfare.
Hidden Paradise Cottages are just across the road and became our local for eating out...fantastic food and staff. The Grill, a 20 minute walk away was our favourite.
We ate in a lot, buying food locally and cooking. On that note do try and go for a cooking class at Bali asli near amlapura if you have time.
All in all a wonderful experience and we will miss Nyoman and co. -

Ulm, GermanyVery beautiful villa in tropical garden
Left on 10/25/2011 for a stay in October 2011
We stayed as a family of four with two adult children. And here is the only drawback: The villa is better suited for two or two couples.
The villa itself is spacious and charming with antique woodwork, the garden lush and extremely well kept, also the pool. The local manager (Nyoman) is friendly and patient and resourceful. His wife cooks very well (dinner is extra) and the breakfast (included) with pancakes balinese style is delicious.
The location is good with a nice beach (dark sand) with incredible fish and corals, so bring your snorkeling gear or rent it. A dive shop is across the road and restaurants are plentiful.
The master bedroom is big and comfortable, with air condition. We brought our own mosquito net and slept well without air con (nights had 25-30°).
But... the "garden house" for our children was a let down: Just a large simple house with
concrete walls and floor. We were a bit ashamed to live in absolute luxury with our son in a two star accomodation. Our doughter immediately opted for the beautiful four poster bed on the veranda which has a mosquito net.
Another "but" is unavoidable in amed: Life takes place on the road and everybody is happy to have it and lives near it, including the villa. So the myriads of mopeds were annoying in the first nights (starting at 6 am), but later we were used to it. -

Loved this place! The location is sensational - in the midst of a traditional Balinese village full of intrigue and culture, surrounded by fabulous restaurants all cheap as chips, and a 100 meter walk from the best coral reef we have ever scubered! Such a privelege to experience. Villa aroha is a clever fusion of traditional Balinese culture with modern conveniences. It nestles privately within beautiful lush gardens with a large sparkling pool. This was a holiday we will never forget.

Left on 10/11/2011 for a stay in October 2011
We had a fantastic holiday - Villa aroha was a great choice, beautifully appointed with comfortable furniture and an array of Indonesian artwork. Great garden and pool and only a short stroll to the beach.
Food and friendly service by Nyoman and his family was sensational - nothing was too much trouble for them to organise yet they allowed us the space to enjoy our privacy.
Plenty of activities close to the Villa - thoroughly enjoyed the snorkelling off Lipah Beach, kayaked up and down the coast and joined the local fishermen on their early morning hunt for mackerel.
Much time however was spent at the Villa relaxing - the kids (3 & 6 yrs) had a ball in the garden and pool.
Locals were very friendly and the local restaurants were good.
I would return without a second thought. -

We stayed in Villa aroha with our 2 children who both slept in the daybed on the veranda. We loved our stay there. The villa is excellent, it has everything you'll need. Kids were most of the time in the pool or out exploring in the beautiful gardens. The staff is great and very helpful. We loved amed as it is less developed and still has 'the old' Bali feel. The location of the villa is great; Ibah is the best beach in the area with excellent snorkling and it has some nice restaurants in the area. We will be back!

We had a perfect stay at Villa aroha. The pool was amazing. Swam many times a day, and then snorkelled at the beach 50 metres away. Local and very tasty breakfast bought to us each morning by Nyoman and Manis. Daily massages by the pool. Magically comfortable bed, and all the facilities you could wish for. Wonderful value.

Left on 06/26/2011 for a stay in June 2011
Villa aroha is incredible, such an amazing place!! And if you are into interiors/antiques as I am, search no longer - the owner obviously has exquisite taste, the property is beautifully appointed. Not to mention the tropical gardens that surround the property, it is so lush and beautiful, I just can't say enough about it - heaven! One thing to note: the owner honestly informed me that the villa is in the middle of the village, that I might hear general village noise/noise from the street. This is very much true. You will wake to the sound of about 50 roosters/chickens crowing at 5am which is then followed by a chorus of children crying, motorbikes starting up, hammering, etc. However! It all stops by 9:30am. 9:30 to 4:30 you will hear nothing but birdsong. And in the end, I decided I kind of liked all the noise, you get to experience village life in the comfort of your own home so to speak. So it ended up not being a problem, but is why I took one star off the Comfort category. The staff and Nyoman are fantastic, they took superb care of me, tending to my every need. I will never forget this place, it is more beautiful than the photos on the site and the same warm feeling that comes through in the photos is real - Villa aroha has such a soul to it..I will never forget my amazing experience in beautiful amed:)

With good weather and less busy balinese new years traffic on the road this place would be heaven, as it was for Nyepi the day of silence. Go in the dry season. The villa itself is spectacular, great kitchen, beautiful appointments, great staff, perfect pool. Village life is very close by.

This tranquil property is hidden behind a big wall in a secret garden. The grounds are spacious and very well kept as is the pool and surrounding area. The service is excellent with respect for ones privacy. Situated a stone's throw from the beach it is in an ideal location with a very pleasant restaurant across the road looking out on to the sea front. It is extremely safe as the Jarga is extremely vigilant both day and night. The interior reflects the owners love for antique surroundings of Java and Bali. You will feel nothing but totally relaxed and rested after your stay in this idyllic Villa. One not to miss.
