Luxury Villa-Farmhouse for rent in Umbria with private use of swimming pool.

The property is on the hills very close to Amelia, not far from Todi, Orvieto and Spoleto. Rome is 45 minutes by train from the nearby town of Orte. La Fontana is a luxuriously rustic Umbrian Farm house that includes a main house, with two traverine bathrooms, beautiful living room and kitchen, and large rooms, for a total of 210 square meters plus one cottage, of 55 square meters with its own bathroom, kitchen/dining rooms and fireplace. La Fontana is set in three hectares of land, or over seven acres. the property was bought April Davis more than 25 years ago..., include a 220 organic Rajo variety olive grove, an orchard and the garden, a mixture of Mediterranean and English taste with a variety of flowering shrubs and trees. The property is situated overlooking a valley from a cliff, facing south-west in a lovely sunny spot.

Private Swimming Pool, in house and many activities in town, in Amelia, including riding, tennis, and cultural activities in Amelia, Spoleto, Narni. For extra fee, your stay can be catered by an Italian cook. In November we harvest our special olives, Rajo varietal, supposedly the most rare and tasty in Italy and only found in the Amelia region. Our trees are over 200 years old!

Main Villa

The main villa is laid out on two levels with each room having access to the grounds. This means that one can enter or exit the house in 4 different places which makes the house very easy to live in summer. There are some steps inside the house so it is not ideal for elderly people or people with mobility issues. The grounds sustain a very high quality Olive tree, named Rajo which apparently makes the best Oilve Oil in Italy, (according to the Umbria Agrarian department who monitors these matters).Read more

Additional Location Information

La Fontana is situated in the Amerino county, just on the border between Lazio and Umbria. There are few areas in the world with so many cultural, archaeological and architectural sites of interest. Amelia is the ideal starting point for discovering a delightful countryside without the inconvenience of mass tourism.

LAZIO
Everyone knows Rome, but Lazio has much to offer to the enterprising visitor. We recommend a visit to Viterbo, Tuscania, Tarquinia, Villa Lante at Bagnaia, Caprarola and the abandoned town of Civita di Bagnoreggio. There are numerous lakes nearby: Bracciano, Bolsena and Vico, while the sea is only one hour by car, with some very nice beaches near Asedonia in Tuscany and Porto Ercole.

UMBRIA
In Umbria, a region that has gained a name for being the green heart of Italy, tourism is growing because of the natural beauties, the antiquities and the historic centres of the region. The quiet countryside, good wine and an inimitable cuisine are a pleasant extra. The main cities to visit are Perugia, Orvieto, Spoleto, [home of the music festival] Assisi, Todi, but there are also many charming little towns and villages such as Narni, Lugnano in Teverina, Ferentillo, Stroncone, Labro and Norcia that are well worth a visit, including the wonderful wilderness of the Sibillini Mountains near Castelluccio di Norcia. The vast ruins of the Roman city of Carsulae and the beautiful waterfalls of Marmore are very close to Terni.

AMELIA
Amelia is sited on rolling hills, bordered on the north by thick woods and on the south by olive groves and vineyards. The walls originate from the pre-Etruscan period (700 BC) while the town has maintained its medieval plan without significant change in centuries. From the Roman period the most striking vestiges are the ancient cisterns and the statue of Germanico. The town people are charming and there are some good restaurants that serve typical Umbrian food. Wine producers are all around and it is fun to go round the local Cantine. We have some wonderful wine producers nearby in Montecchio, [Falesco], in Amelia, Colli Amerini, [Carbio] and Castello delle Regine. The same can be done for the olive oil, the local production is the best in Italy. The harvest season is usually mid November.

  The home is rustic, charming, and authentic, but very comfortable with homey decor and modern amenities. Close to Rome yet in a peaceful Umbrian country setting. Ideal for sightseeing and getting away from it all! We look forward to our next visit!
