Lausanne, SwitzerlandExactly what we wanted.
Left on 04/30/2013 for a stay in March 2013
We loved this place. It's less than a km from the central station and most things you'll want to do are within walking distance.
Our flight arrived late, but Vlad went out of his way to welcome us and show us around. We were in the top floor apartment for four days and it felt very private, and, despite the location, the place was really quiet.
Breakfast is taken with other guests in the shared kitchen, and was a very relaxed and friendly experience. If and when we go back to amsterdam, we'll stay here again. -

Oro ValleyAuthentic amsterdam Experience With Wonderful Hosts
Left on 09/09/2012 for a stay in August 2012
Me, my wife and another couple rented a two-bedroom apartment for five nights.
The location was terrific, with several excellent restaurants literally a few feet from our front door. It seemed like all of amsterdam was in pretty close proximity, and we were able to walk to virtually every place we wanted to. We walked to Vondelpark, the red-light district, the Yellow Bike rental place, the train station, etc.
Vlad, our "host", was very friendly and helpful, both before our trip and after our arrival. He made several excellent suggestions for bike rental, dinners, etc.
The apartment was very cool. Take seriously the up-front warning about not bringing huge, heavy suitcases with you. We were packed light for a subsequent african safari, and we still struggled to get our bags up the very narrow, winding stairway. Vlad helped us, which was greatly appreciated. The lay-out, cleanliness and amenities in the apartment were very good. What we really liked about the apartment is that we got an authentic taste of what it would be like to actually live in amsterdam. The negative part of that is amsterdam is a vibrant, exciting city which, as you might expect, means that it's pretty noisy, even late into the evening/early morning hours. The noise level is the reason I have rated the experience as 4 stars instead of 5. If you want a quiet experience, you may be better off at the Marriott of some other high-end hotel.
But, for us, the trade-off was worth it. The authenticity trumped the noise.
Thanks, Vlad, for a great experience! -

Were made very welcome and found out arctic apparent very comfortable. The location was tops and easy walking to central attractions. The location was safe with good restaurants to dine out nearby. Breakfast was first class and provided a homely ambience.

51862My address in amsterdam
Left on 05/29/2012 for a stay in May 2012
My wife and I and a friend stayed in the two bedroom apartment at 20 Herenstraat in early May, 2012. We had a ball. The location is absolutely great. It’s an easy walk from the Central Station (you can get trams to all points there.) The neighborhood is full of interesting shops and architecture, and abuts the Joordan and the Nine Streets areas. While close also to the Dam and Damrak and the bedlam of those scenes, this neighborhood made us feel more like residents than tourists. We ate in a number of local cafés and had great food.
Vlad (of Maes B & B adjacent) met us promptly, showed us around, made recommendations and answered questions helpfully. Heed their warnings about stairs and luggage. The apartment is up two mountainous flights of stairs -- something I expected, it being amsterdam. One member of our party was daunted by this, but it made me feel like we were kids creeping up to our secret treehouse. There is a bright living room overlooking the street, a WC/shower and the kitchen on the lower level. The kitchen had all the necessary equipment we needed to fix a couple of dinners in, as well as morning coffee/breakfast. There was even a bouquet of fresh flowers on the kitchen counter. Two bedrooms and another toilet/shower are on the upper level. The beds were great. Best sleeping of our whole trip. Nice towels and linen and very clean. If you have the back bedroom European Blackbirds will be your alarm clock. There is a deck up a half flight from the kitchen. The deck while pleasant, would be much improved with new furniture.
I plan to come back to amsterdam soon and 20 Herenstraat is my first choice for a great apartment. -

Salt Lake City, UtahNo better place in amsterdam.
Left on 06/27/2011 for a stay in June 2011
Nothing could be better than a canal house in amsterdam. A large room in canal house (on the Singel) with a fantastic breakfast every morning. Beautiful, and comfortable furniture throughout the house. We even enjoyed sitting in the common room with a view outside. I'm sure people walking by were envious thinking we owned the place. Our hosts, Ken and Vlad, made us feel like family and had wonderful suggestions for activities and restaurants. All this for less than most hotels in amsterdam! You would be a fool to stay anywhere else. I'm already planning to go back!
