Austin, TXAmazing location, friendly & helpful owners!

We truly enjoyed our stay here, and Jacqueline was very accommodating. She met us the day we arrived, we had no trouble at all finding the place or contacting her. We chose this place because of the location: it is fantastic! A short walk from everything, such a beautiful safe area. You are near a little bit of everything, and it is surprisingly very quiet at night! This room fit all our needs. Great for two people or one traveler. Shower got nice and hot, our room was comfy and we would definitely stay here again, and would also recommend for others!

Our host Mrs Jacquelien Beijer was very helpful on getting around the city on our first day. We really felt like we are at our own house.
The room is clean and perfect for a couple or two close friends.Response from Apartments Unlimited - 05/30/2013

Hi! We are two italian guys. We've been there for three nights, unlikely not more! The owner, Jacqueline, was really really kind, really a great person. We couldn't see eachother when we had to leave, so, she told us not to give her the key deposit. So kind by her! And furthermore, she told us to call her anytime we need cause she would come immediatly to us! Really polite =)
The apartment was wonderful, near the downtown, not far away from Dam square and everything you need... and that vintage style makes us feel home! A really beautiful experience! Hope to come soon in amsterdam!Response from Apartments Unlimited - 05/15/2013

My husband and I stayed here two nights for a quick getaway. We found the owner to be very helpful, the room to be very clean and it was in the heart of everything! The room was a very good size, charming, and had everything we needed. It should be noted that it is in the smaller red light district but it is very safe. It occasionally got loud in the night but nothing too crazy. Also to note, if you cannot maneuver a very tight stairs, I would not suggest it.

Left on 11/04/2012 for a stay in September 2012
We chose this place based on location (if you don't mind the red lights) and price. we were very please with what we got. It is just the sort of room you need to explore the city and come back to rest. The host was very friendly and helpful, chech-in was easy although my girlfirend and I did not arrive at the same time. Only inconvenience might have been the temperature in the room, as it was a bit cold at times. However it is a old building (and thus comes with steep and narrow stairs) and it was the time of the year when heatnig is just starting to be turned on. Overall a very nice experience and recommended.
Check out the Coffee Connection (Nieuwezijds Kolk 33, 3min walk away) to start your day with delicious coffee and nice fresh bagels (and/or cakes)!Response from Apartments Unlimited - 11/20/2012

Many thanks for your review. Talking with the owner of this property, she told me that, because the studio is centrally heated, the control of the temperature is in her apartment above. So, in case that you want a warmer room, just please ring her bell, and she'll make it warmer right away.
Glad to hear that this didn't spoil your vacation. Cheers -

Thanks for your review; glad to hear you have enjoyed it.
Old Amsterdam houses have indeed steep stairs, but luckily there is only one set of steps to access this accommodation (1st floor).

Stayed for a weekend The room was very clean, small but still spacious enough for two to be comfortable.
Our greeter Jacqueline was great, friendly and just upstairs if you need anything but she leaves you to do your own thing.
The apartment is just 5 minutes walk from the station, off spui straat in a little tucked away alley. You're just on the edge of the red light district so there is some noise outside at night, but it's not constant and is only really people walking past.
Straight out of the window is the ornate window of a church which is quite nice to overlook
You're in a great location for the centre, get a map and see that you can cut straight through to Dam Square.
Had a great stay, excellent simple base for exploring the city!

Decent central location. Area is fairly safe but you are in Red Light District. Basic apartment...very small bathroom. If you are just looking for a place to sleep and be out all day, this place works.

Thanks for your review. Yes indeed what you said is true and it is exactly how we advertize this accommodation in our website: it is simple and cheap, but in the heart of the old city centre. If you wish something special, we have plenty to offer; please advise next time.

The apartament is well rated comparing to others on the same region, it's next to the Singel canal and near the beautiful Joordan neighbourhood. About comfort, we can say that it's ok, it's as old room/building, no luxury, very small bathroom and it's missing a stove.. But if your goal is to explore the city, it's a good choice. Plus the owner is absolutely friendly and helpfull.

Thanks for your review. This is indeed a simple and cheap accommodation. It's really a guesthouse, not an apartment or studio. We can recommend other places with kitchen next time, if you wish.

Portsmouth, UKBeautiful and quaint accommodation in the heart of amsterdam
Left on 04/19/2011 for a stay in April 2011
The Downtown Guestroom is perfect for a city trip to amsterdam. The room is located less than 5 mins from Centraal Station and the directions given are very easy to follow. Jacquelien, the guestroom owner is incredibly friendly and helpful. The Guestroom is on the first floor above the jewellery shop run by Jacquelien and their family home is on the floors above. You could not find a place to stay that is more central and as good value for money as this Guestroom. The room is spacious and airy and has all the amenities you require including tea and coffe making facilities. I cannot fault this accommodation! There are a few red light windows in the area and seeing scantily clad women at all hours of the day and night could be shocking to some people, but it just added to the cultural feel of our stay! You are within walking distance of everything and there is bike hire shop round the corner. The tram lines run from very close by as well so there is unlimited transport available to get about the city. We were so impressed with our stay at the Downtown Guestroom and we would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a value for money, clean and friendly city break. We will definitely book into the Downtown Guestroom again in the future!

Cozy, rather spartan but carefully finished by landlady's carpenter husband, it's on the second floor of their home above her goldsmith shop, very safe. Landlady, mother of 2 school age kids, is wonderful person, warm, honest, direct, helpful. We initially booked 4 days, stayed 5 extra. Just off Spuistraat, lots of bike rental places nearby, as well as post office, ah supermarket, etc. Only issue is late night noise from passersby on street (didn't bother my wife but I'm a light sleeper).View out the window: 19th C church, and if you peer to the left, red light ladies in the windows of the building on the corner. (image in review is from a block away on the Singel canal)
