a monument from the Golden Age

      Beautiful Little Hideaway!!,

Left on 12/20/2011 for a stay in December 2011

Anno 1685 is lovely place with everything you need for a comfortable, homely stay in amsterdam. Close enough to walk to most of the main attractions, it is ideally tucked away in a pleasantly quiet street on the canal. Once you close the door you are in your own peaceful quiet little haven. We mainly ate out but did cook a few meals, and the kitchen has everything you need. A lot of helpful brochures and information maps are available and we found them most useful as it was out first time in amsterdam! Anke must be commended on her hosting skills. From the moment we approached her via email to enquire about the accommodation, right through to us leaving yesterday she was helpful, warm and accommodating and most welcoming. As our return journey was late in the day she even allowed us to keep the place on until we were ready to set off. By the way, do try the little cafe around the corner on Prinsengraght (It is mentioned in the information folder at the apartment). Lovely warm welcome, very reasonably priced food and great ambiance. The home made pea soup served with rye bread is an absolute must!!! We will certainly be back to amsterdam, and will most definitely be returning to anno 1685. Thank you anke!!!

Left on 12/05/2011 for a stay in November 2011

I stayed at the apartment with my two older sons. It was cozy and had everything we needed for our stay. I loved the little patio ,a great place to relax and have a cup of coffee in the morning. Everything was within walking distance from the apartment. We had a wonderful time and will come back for more.

      beautiful flat

Left on 11/21/2011 for a stay in November 2011

My wife and I stayed for a 5 night vacation in November. The location is excellent. It is a few minute walk to Leidseplein and a block to the trams. It is an easy walk to both the museum district and to the centre of town. It is on a pretty quiet street fronting on a canal. The apartment is quite modern. There is an eat in kitchen with a microwave, small fridge and full stove and well equipped with toaster, coffee maker, kettle and dishes. The bedroom is separated from the kitchen by a curtain and has a queen bed, sofa, flat panel tv etc. The bathroom is also quite modern. There is also a garden patio with table and chairs off the bedroom but we didn"t use because of the weather. The owner Mrs Ritter lives upstairs and is quite helpful . There are ots of maps and tourist guides in the guests to use. All in all well kept and clean and comfortable.

      Wonderful place in fantastic location

Left on 06/13/2011 for a stay in June 2011

We came to amsterdam with our grandson to celebrate his 10th birthday.
Nothing could have been more wonderful than seeing the city via our
charming accomodations at anno 1685. The owner, Anke, is so hospitable, and
we instantly felt 'at home'. Having several meals in the outdoor garden
(Foodware - a wonderful and healthy gourmet takeout is just a few blocks away)
was so much nicer than eating out all the time while on holiday.
The bed is very comfortable (our grandson equally comfortable on the pullout couch)
and it's delightful being directly on a canal.
      Can't recommend it enough!

      Awesome!

Left on 05/26/2011 for a stay in May 2011

Amsterdam was magical and anno 1685 was perfect. When we stepped in the door my first thought was, "This is really old". It is old, built in 1685, but very well maintained and updated while keeping the charm of age. We were very comfortable there in a quiet residential neighborhood which was convenient to all the highlights of the city. The ground floor location was a definite plus and being able to sit with the open door to enjoy the peaceful activity on the canal was wonderful. Not to mention the garden! Oh my gosh! It doesn't get any better!
      Thank you anke!

Wonderful ground floor apartment, close to everything

Left on 05/20/2011 for a stay in May 2011

We had a great week long visit and owe much of that great week to this apartment. The ground floor suite has a well-equipped kitchen, nice bedroom and nice bathroom. Our favorite feature was the garden in the back, which we had for our exclusive use. The location was perfect - a short 2 minute walk to the tram line was great for getting around amsterdam, but also far enough away that we didn't experience congestion. It was also a short walk to the Leidesplein area and not far to the Jordaan and museum areas. A laundry and grocery store were within easy walking distance. Anka was the perfect hostess. I definitely recommend this apartment.

we felt that we were really a part of the city. wonderful spot to walk everywhere. nice touches like rentable bikes and coffee table on the wonderful terrace
we were sceptical to stay in an apartment in a foreign country, but we both believed it made our trip so much more enjoyable
thanks for a great spot, highly recommended

One of the best

Left on 10/30/2010 for a stay in September 2010

Anke's prompt, helpful and friendly response while arranging our stay was sustained in accommodating our early arrival after a very long overnight flight, and through the rest of our week in amsterdam. The apartment which, bar a couple of steps down, is at ground level, was clean, comfortable and well equipped. My wife was particularly taken with the private walled garden at the rear. We found the location perfect. Anno is within easy walking distance of transport, amenities and many of amsterdam's attractions, yet at the same time tranquil by day and very quiet at night. The area's tree lined canals with their bridges and the restored canal houses are quite beautiful. Walk to supermarkets, coffee shops and pubs, numerous restaurants offering a variety of European and asian cuisines, with a special mention for an excellent DIY or service laundromat in Kerkstraat. There was nothing not to like about this apartment and it's setting; we left amsterdam regretting that we had not planned to stay longer.

My husband, 20 year old son and I had a most enjoyable stay at anno 1865. The weather did not allow us to make the most of the beautiful garden but we enjoyed looking out on it nonetheless. Our three day stay was not enough and if we are lucky enough to go back to amsterdam again we would love to stay at anno 1685 again - great location, excellent facilities and comfort.

A wonderful 'home away from home' in the centre of amsterdam

Left on 10/17/2010 for a stay in May 2010

Anno 1685 is a wonderful studio apartment with a fully fitted kitchen/dining area, a shower room and double bed and its own garden where you can have breakfast, an afternoon tea or evening drink in complete privacy.

The apartment is two steps down at the bottom of a historic canal house, so no 'Amsterdam narrow' stairs to climb and with its front door right alongside the Leidsegracht and a minute away from the 'Nine streets' and their picture postcard cafes, delicatessens, small fashion shops and tasty restaurants.

Anno 1685 is a jewel of a holiday location for singles, couples or families with one or two small children.
With two bicycles for hire and plenty of maps showing for good rides around amsterdam area and even the opportunity to hire a small boat (with pilot) Anno is a great place to spend a holiday in amsterdam - I spent Queen's day there this year and I have already booked another week for april 2011 - try it you'll love it.

The owner, Anke is brilliant at communicating with you and even provides the apartment with its own laptop so you can keep up to date with your emails.

We felt like we lived there!

Left on 03/12/2010 for a stay in February 2010

This is a wonderful apartment for travelling around the centre of Amsterdam. Are you fed up with chambermaids knocking on your door at 9.00am? Do you shuffle past hotel receptions hoping that they don't see that you drank a bit too much wine with your meal the previous evening? At this apartment you are left to your own devices and can do what you want, when you want without the restrictions that hotels can often employ.
The apartment is near to a supermarket, local food retailers, wine merchants and of course the flower market.
I would particularly recommend this apartment to the gay travellers out there as it is close to all the gay venues. A stones throw from one!
For couples and families that rent it, you have everything on your doorstep but in a quiet location. You really do feel that you live there and with museums and good restaurants close by you really don't have to catch a tram anywhere, if like me, the whole process with the tickets confuses you.
Upon arrival, Anke was there for her friendly welcome. Tulips in the flower vase and the table set out ready for dinner. We particularly liked the courtyard which would be wonderful in the spring and summer when it is warmer.
The kitchen is fully functional. Here you can cook like you do at home and you have everything to hand.
The apartment is clean. The bed comfortable and decor is homely.
What we liked best? Everything about the apartment.
What we liked least? Having to go home :-(
We walked from Central Station and it took 20 minutes. We have two more bookings as we were so impressed.
      Thank you Anke!

      Charm -- Beauty -- Location/Location/Location!

Left on 10/29/2009 for a stay in October 2009

My husband and I visited Amsterdam for the first time in early October 2009. We enjoy having a kitchen and an outdoor space when we travel, and Anno 1685 offered both. We were very happy with our choice for these reasons:

      (1) The location is fantastic. Close to the Leidseplein with its many shops and tram stops, the Flower Market (so many tulip bulbs!), the American Hotel and its famously beautiful art deco cafe, and the Anne Frank house. Other areas are a little further but still walkable ... or just take the tram! We found a ton of great restaurants nearby. Tomaz was our favorite!

      (2) It's beautiful ... open the front door and you are looking at a beautiful canal. Open the french doors out the back and you have your own small covered terrace with wonderful greenery and complete privacy. The inside decor also very nice.

      (3) It's quiet ... during the day and evening. The only sounds you hear are the occasional car or bicycle passing in the front.

      (3) It's functional ... the kitchen has a good sized table and comfortable seating for 4. Lots of maps & brochures for planning outings. There's also a stove, sink, microwave and small frig (with freezer and ice trays). Bed is comfortable with 2 individual covers .. my husband and I snuggle up, but would be fine for 2 friends or relatives travelling together. Bathroom is good - no tub, shower is on the small side, but adequate. High speed internet connection provided!! We plugged in to our Apple, but laptop also there if needed!

Finally, there is Anke, the homeowner. She is very kind and very helpful. She answered all of my questions prior to the trip, and was available for any questions during our stay without being in the least bit intrusive. This is important to my husband and I since we tend to be independent travelers and enjoy our privacy.

      We highly recommend!

Very nice and comfortable appartement, at one of the most beautiful 'grachten' with ships and bicycles passing by. Many museums and the center in walking distance. Possibility of doing bicycle tours in the city.
Quite calm in the night, because not in the entertainment and touristic area, altough not far from it. We slept extraordinarily well in the comfortable bed.
      Very nice and helpful owner!
Best: Sitting at the opened frontdoor and looking out to the ships and passing by bikes. The feeling of living in the middle of an in the same time 'normal amsterdam' and extraordinary place.

We had a wonderful vacation time here, and felt very much at home in Anno1685. the apartment is cosy, elegant and very thoughtfully furbished. There is nothing lacking, free tea and coffee, towels, bathrobes, hairdryer etc.and everything you might want to see is around the corner, any kind of cafe or restaurant. After lovely days of getting to know the city we sat our legs bungling over the rim of this gorgeous and rather quiet Leidsegracht in front of our apartment, or on the lovely terrace at the back, with lights and a glass of wine.We would like to thank Anke for her never ending helpfulness and all the good advice on our daytrips - we shall recommend Anno to our friends, and come back in October for a long weekend without the children. (there is by the way an excellent, safe and inexpensive parking lot, around the corner). We also enjoyed having our bikes in front of the door and going with the boot that belongs to Anno.

We just spent last weekend in Anno 1685, having lived in Amsterdam a number of years ago, I was familar with the location and this was one of the reasons I choose it. It certainly lived up to our expectations and our host Anke was wonderful, it was a birthday celebration and Anke arranged a private boat trip with picnic along the canals for us and 4 friends from overseas, which proved to be the highlight of the weekend! Anno is ideally located to discover all that Amsterdam has to offer and most of the major attracations are within walking distance. It is also ideal for long or short stays, with the possibility to eat in or out (in one of the many great restaurants in the neighbourhood)and Anke is always on hand to help out with whatever you need. We will definitely be back!
