Dublin, IrelandGreat location - great apartment - but silly cheap corners cut.
Left on 04/02/2013 for a stay in February 2013
We had a wonderful stay in amazing amsterdam in this beautiful period 2 bedroom apartment on the canal but we found the following 'silly' shortfalls very short sighted by the owners and very annoying. We would urge them to fix these given the otherwise high quality of the apartment and the high price they charge (we paid €900 for 2 nights for 2 adults and a teenager):
1. Only one toilet in the whole apartment. The ensuite of the master bedroom - although very large - only has a shower and a sink - why? We think they could easily add a second toilet in this space.
2. Only a cold water tap in the WC room with the toilet - why? And nowhere to place toiletries...
3. Less than 2 toilet rolls provided for 3 adults for a weekend stay. Is this an EU austerity measure?! We needed to shop for toilet roll on our city-break trip to amsterdam! We think they should leave plenty of toilet roll - so what if they leave too much :-)
4. No welcome pack to greet us. For the cost, which is at the high end (we are seasoned city-break travellers), we think a bowl of fruit and a few snacks or crackers would appear generous even though it would cost the owners hardly anything. We had nothing coming from the airport and there were only a few coffees and teas available. We think for €900 for 2 nights a €5 bowl of fruit would be a very tiny spend to make their clients feel welcome and spare them an immediate trip out to the shops.
5. No headboards on the twin beds in the canal-facing bedroom. Our pillows kept sliding off the top of the beds into the gap to the wall (due to the radiator). Just add small headboards.
We will recommend this apartment with qualifiers. We will warn people about the limited toilet/hot water amenities which make no sense given the high quality of the property (my fellow-traveller and I had to let our teenage traveller have the master room as this was set up as a double bed with the smaller room as a twin - which was fine - but we had to use his ensuite for hot water at the sink at night/morning and all three of us had to use the small toilet in the hallway with a cold water tap only). This is really not acceptable for this top-of-the-range property/price. -

We stayed in amsterdam for 4 nights for leisure
Pros: It's close to the Dam Square which makes it very accessible to the Trams if you would like to go to the Museum Pleins. It is about a 10-15min walk from the Centraal Station. It's also right next to the restaurants and canals. We enjoyed buying food and eating them by the canal in the evening. The hotel borders Chinatown and the Red light district. You can get any food you want within a 2 block radius in any direction: from bakeries, to Chinese to argentenian, Bavarian, Mexican food and even English breakfast! The apartment itself is clean. There were 3 of us, we stayed in a room with a queen size bed, a full bed and a futon. Towels were provided, but if you have a thing about cleanliness, i suggest you bring your own. There was a fridge, no tv. There's also a central heater for the winter time. The attendant for the hotel was really nice. He helped us with our bags since the stairs are so steep and we were on the second floor. We also appreciated that he waited for us to arrive since we got lost on our way to the apt and came about 30 min late. Just to warn you study the map on how to get to the apt or might as well cab it the first time because the streets in amsterdam can be confusing.
Cons: We came when it was starting to get hot, the apt did not have an aC that we know of. Luckily there were 3 large windows and a door that opens to the rooftop. It was very hot at night, so we opened the door and the window. It can be loud at night because of the the bars that the hotel is next to, but if you are not a light sleeper it's a good place. One thing that i didn't like was the whiff of MJs from the smokers next door. I suppose it's amsterdam, but if you are sensitive, just request for a room on the opposite side of the building. No lifts/elevators, and there are a lot of stairs.
Overall, we were satisfied with our stay. -

Me and my friends stayed in Canal View House II, it was a room with 4 ness, bathroom, desk, chair and tv. It was good as we weren't in the room much and the beds were comfortable. However when booking this room, the pictures and description are different from what we stayed in. The room with the big windows and terrace are on the 1st floor, we stayed on the second floor with no terrace. It is a very central location with everything you need near by. Watch out for the staircase!

We rented two rooms of Mr. Gonzo Canal View House, he always had an excuse for everything. Dirty rooms, bathrooms full of hairs in the floor, full trash and the floor really dirt, refrigerator disgusting. We had to clean the place ourselves. Very small, does not fit all the people who says, only sharing a bed. No clean sheets and no TV and Wi-Fi. Really disgusting, we were disappointed and disgusted!

Canal View House was excellent. we were very happy with everything. the mini apartment has a sauna and very nice bathroom. Gonzo, our host, was very welcoming and looked after us well. his boat trip is not to be missed!
however I just have one question: how on earth did you get that winch up there?

If u just need a bed and a shower that's where u go! It's very cheap, only the garage was a lil expensive - 70€ for the weekend. Which is about 1/3 of the entire price. So, I recommend to travel by train.
But all in all...we didn't expect Versailles ;) so it was good for us.
