Our week in amsterdam was made all the better by our stay at this lovely, well appointed apartment. The location was perfect and the owners were very gracious and welcoming without being intrusive. I wish we could find apartments like this more often!

      Friendly, convenient and comfortable

Left on 02/28/2013 for a stay in February 2013

The apartment is indeed on a 'fashion' district street lined with high-end retail shops but the back balcony looks over quiet yards and balconies with a lovely residential character you would never guess from the street entrance. The neighbourhood felt quiet and safe at night. I was there alone and have not always felt safe in amsterdam but was very comfortable here.

I loved having the landlords upstairs (a young, pleasant family). I chose the apartment for its proximity to the Museumplein and archives where I was conducting research but was absolutely amazed by how much I enjoyed the adjacent residential neighbourhoods. felt like I really was living in the city.

It is a little over a block away from the lovely networks of Vondelpark paths and well connected to transit routes. A few more blocks takes you to a delicious butcher-caterer (Van Dam) tucked into a nice residential neighbourhood where there are a couple of little pubs where people seemed to gather after work. On Saturdays there is a wonderful market in a square about 5 blocks away with fabulous smoked fish and a great cheese monger. There are supermarkets and bakeries nearby too (although I had to take the tram to my favorite bakery--Hartog's).

The apartment was very well equiped. I especially appreciated the kitchen. I love cooking and it is one of my pleasures to seek out top-quality specialties to prepare. It is rare for a short-term rental be this thoughtfully outfitted. Decent knives, a good supply of cutlery and cookware...There was even a good set of china. While the rent is on the pricey end of what i can manage to pay it was well worth it. Very good hair dryer too!

I loved my stay there and keep trying to think of an excuse to return soon --next time with my partner--...Thanks Maria and Carl.

Really enjoyed our few days in this apartment

Left on 11/05/2012 for a stay in October 2012

I think this is probably the best equipped apartment we have ever stayed in. There was an abundance of everything - when we put the dishwasher on there were still clean dishes to use. Also lots of pots and pans. The owners did not skimp on anything. There were plenty of condiments, oil etc - and even a canister of coffee. The whole apartment was very clean and comfortable with plenty of storage space - more that you would need for a few days - and was well heated. The other advantage was its location, surrounded by very attractive shops and within walking distance of all the major attractions.

      A blessing!

Left on 11/02/2012 for a stay in October 2012

We booked the apartment in the belief that it would be useful not to be staying for a week in a hotel room with a 5 month old baby. We couldn't have been more wrong; it was a total blessing not be stuck in a hotel room with a 5 month old baby! Almost immediately after arriving in amsterdam, our son became rather poorly and feverish and remained this way for the first 4 days of our 6 day stay. It was a real relief to be staying in such a well equipped, baby-friendly, light, airy and genuinely lovely apartment. In such circumstances, when largely confined to the apartment for the majority of the stay, it was really good to be able to enjoy the beautiful surroundings of the apartment and make the most of the incredibly well-equipped kitchen.

Carl and Maria were wonderful hosts - helpful and welcoming but not intrusive. They had thoughtfully provided a drawer of baby equipment for use - baby bath for use in the shower, feeding bowls, bibs, muslins, changing mat, spare sheets for the travel cot (which has a proper mattress), extra towels. I had been worried about the steep stairs up to the apartment, but was able to leave our small travelling buggy at the bottom of the stairs by the front door which made things a lot easier.

The location was also great for our situation. The supermarket was a 5 minute walk away (in the Museumplein area) and Vondelpark took 2 minutes to get into. There is a busy restaurant area just 5 minutes away as you walk into the city. It was incredibly easy to walk into and around the rest of the city and we didn't need to use public transport at all while we were there. The shopping street outside the apartment is rather elite and busy in the day (the large windows in the apartment make a great spot for people watching), but empty after c.6pm, so really quiet and therefore great for children.

All in all, I was so relieved we'd booked this apartment and very grateful for Maria and Carl's efforts to make it so welcoming.

Most beautiful apartment in most beautiful area!

Left on 09/22/2012 for a stay in September 2012

Wow. My husband (of 13yrs) and I both love this place! We will be back asap. Carl was so helpful and cool! He has remodeled this beautiful 1865 building to perfection, modern and artistic. The photos don't do this place justice.
The area (we are 36yrs old) was gorgeous, we sat in the windowsill and watched below as models and Dutch celebrities filled the streets for Fashion Night Out 2012. It is the top notch spot to stay in all the city. We explored all of amsterdam and it was nice to end our night here. Ahhh. :)
September is the best time to visit, if you can. But - don't try to book in early September, that spot is taken! :)

      Excellent Choice.

Left on 09/09/2012 for a stay in September 2012

This apartment is lovely and you can see from the pictures and read in the other reviews. It is a great for a couple. Besides the apartment itself, things we worried about:
      1) Location - it was easy to get to from the airport - 1 direct bus and a very short walk. It was also a perfect spot to walk to the museums, to bike rentals, to the canal tour boats, to restaurants, to a park for running.
      2) Ease of checking in and out - I worry about a holiday rental being complicated vs a hotel. The check in was very easy. Carl was at the apartment at our arrival time, showed us around quickly, took our deposit and left us with some written instruction on the neighbourhood. It was easy. Checking out was the same.
      3) Privacy - the place was all ours and it felt very private.
      4) Value - the price was quite good for the location and the accomodations. We would not have found a hotel as nice for this price.

      Absolute Comfort - Fantastic Location!

Left on 09/03/2012 for a stay in August 2012

My husband, son and I visited amsterdam for 9 days at the end of august to visit with friends and explore the beautiful city.

We chose this apartment for its size, style and location just on the edge of the canal rings with easy access to Vondelpark (1.5 blocks!), sites such as the Van Gogh Museum and Rijksmuseum as well as public transportation that will bring you to just about anywhere in amsterdam within 20-25 minutes.

Our initial booking with Carl and Maria was seamless and upon arrival, Carl greeted us with chocolates, a bottle of wine and some wonderful recommendations where to visit first. The apartment was immaculate and the kitchen very well outfitted for cooking all your meals (which we almost did, but only because I love to cook!) to enjoy on the relaxing deck off the kitchen. There are several groceries, including the popular albert Heijn, a gourmet grocer (Marqt) and organic (Organic for You) within walking distance. If you rent a bike with a basket, it would be even shorter! The street where the apartment is situated could not be more pleasant - very quiet at night, as it is outside the touristy/nightlife area - but has very nice shopping during the day.

I cannot say enough about how pleasant this apartment was. Overall this was a wonderful experience for our family's first big trip abroad, in no small part owing to this lovely home.

Stylish comfortable well equipped apartment in great location

Left on 07/29/2012 for a stay in July 2012

We stayed in this apartment for 5 nights. The owners Karl and Maria live in the apartment directly above and were very helpful and friendly on our arrival. The apartment is incredibly well equipped with everything you could ever need in the kitchen and bathroom. The apartment has a lovely deck which caught the sun late in the day and provides a nice outdoor dining spot in the summer. The apartment also has generous cupboard space for clothes so that you can unpack and not be cluttered. It really felt like a home away from home. The fresh flowers and bottle of wine with chocolates was such a lovely touch. There are restaurants and supermarket within easy walking distance and the tram was just around the corner so it was extremely easy to get around anywhere in amsterdam from this apartment.

The apartment was fresh and clean and had everything you could wish for as far as furniture and equipment. However we found the apartment at times to be very noisy from the residents above and it was not something we would have expected to experience. We also found that the light from the street was unable to be blocked out due to the style of blinds that exists in the apartment.

Maria was terrific. Maria showed us around the apartment and made us feel welcome. There were plenty of towels and other amenities. The apartment was very clean and the appliances were in good working order. The bed was very comfortable and the windows allowed natural light inside the apartment. It was great having a terrace to dine on and to watch parrots and other birds.

Many sites and other places of interest were within walking distance, however when we wanted to go elsewhere in amsterdam, a tram stop was nearby.

I would highly recommend Maria's and Carl's apartment.

Our best stay during our honeymoon!!

Left on 05/19/2012 for a stay in August 2011

This was by far the best place we stayed at during our honeymoon in both amsterdam and Barcelona. Maria and Carl we're so nice and accommodating. We arrived early and they let us leave our luggage there while we explored the city. When it was time for check in Carl was there to let us in and showed us around the apartment. They even gave us complimentary good chocolate (in the shape of a heart) and champagne! Both of them we're so nice about answering questions and providing us with maps and guide books to borrow. The neighborhood is so nice as well. Right next to Vondelpark, which is on of my favorite parks in Europe. The apartment is also a five minute walk to the whole Museumsplien and actually not to far of a walk to the Heineken Museum! Oh and another thing! I had left my night guard in one of the drawers when we left for Barcelona...Maria and Carl emailed us and shipped it to our home in the us and didn't charge us a thing!! It's so great that they have renovated a beautiful home (that sits right above Tiffany's) and opened it up for everyone to share it with them. We will be staying here again the next time we visit amsterdam.

      Perfect stay

Left on 04/28/2012 for a stay in April 2012

From the moment I inquired about availability, to the morning of my departure, I found Carl and Maria to be extremely gracious, communicative and helpful. The apartment is situated just around the corner from the Rijksmuseum on a posh shopping street. The photos don't do the apartment justice; it is light-filled, elegantly appointed, sparkling clean and has every possible amenity. The kitchen is well-equipped and has french doors leading to a serene terrace (also accessible from the bedroom). The owners have provided thoughtful touches, including a nice selection of English language books and dvds. I have often found European accommodations to be quite small and cramped by american standards, this is not the case with this apartment which is spacious and and well-laid out. I loved the walk-in closet, the rainshower and the incredibly comfortable mattress. I could go on and on! I have stayed in numerous vacation rentals from Kauai to Rome to London and Napa Valley--this is one of the finest, perfect for a couple or a single woman traveling alone, as I was. I cannot wait to return!

      Cannot Wait to Come Back

Left on 09/20/2011 for a stay in September 2011

This was our first apartment rental. Carl & Maria's apartment has set the bar so high, I am not sure others will ever be able to match up.

The location (above a Tiffany store) on a street full of highend retail and close to tram lines is just perfect. The museums are about 2 blocks away and there is where you find the closest tram stops. Grocery stores are less than 4 blocks away if you want to eat in using their extraordinary kitchen (think 6 burner stove and diswasher).

The back patio is accessible via the kitchen or the bedroom and is perfact for a glass of wine at the end of a day of siteseeing and shopping.

The typical Dutch staircase is a challenge but something you can easily adjust. The pictures on the website are real. And did we mention the walk-in closet?

We have been spoiled and cannot wait to return.

      Amazing in amsterdam!

Left on 09/16/2011 for a stay in September 2011

You know how you see beautiful photos of a vacation rental on-line, and on check-in it doesn't live up to your expectations? This apartment not only looks like the photos, it absolutely exceeds all expectations.
      This is a wonderful apartment!
Located on the high-end shopping street in amsterdam, you will be in close proximity to several tram lines and a short walk to the canal zone. The apartment itself is nicely appointed. There is a light-filled dining/living area, well-stocked kitchen, gorgeous bathroom and rain shower, and a big-old-comfy bed.
There's a nearby grocery store to stock up and a take-away place just a couple doors down with delicious Italian fare.
What more could you ask for?
How about a street that is decidedly quiet in the evening, well you get that too!
Carl was charming, gave great directions for arrival by tram and helped drag our giant american suitcases up the Dutch stairs.
We have already recommended this place to friends and can't wait to be back in amsterdam ourselves!

Left on 06/08/2011 for a stay in June 2011

This is a wonderful apartment - roomy, luxurious, comfortable, sleek and up to date on the luxury shopping street of amsterdam, just a few minutes walk to the city center and the museum district. My daughter and I spent 3 wonderful nights here on our tour of Europe after her semester abroad. Wonderful kitchen with everything you'd ever need, including coffee, tea, sugar, condiments, spices, etc. Very comfortable bed, luxurious bathroom (no tub), free wi-fi, big tv, books, dvds -- really, Carl and Maria thought of everything. Even a pinic basket! I have very little negative to say except for people who have physical handicaps and can't maneuver stairs - there is one flight of very steep steps. Carl carried our luggage both up and down. There are handrails on each side, and you really do need them! Also, keep in mind, Amsterdam is a very loud city, so you'll hear a fair amount of city noise, particularly in the evenings - however, the bedroom is very soundproofed. This is a 5-star apartment, for sure.

A lovely al fresco dinner on the veranda....from the great deli down the street. The street below - beautiful upscale shops and charming buildings.

      Perfect amsterdam flat

Left on 05/16/2011 for a stay in May 2011

This is a beautiful flat just outside the center of amsterdam. The location is perfect because you can easily get to the city centre if you want, but it's far enough away that you don't get all the tourists. The neighborhood is very quiet and safe. There are many restaurants to choose from, as well as a very close supermarket for those who choose to eat in. The Vondelpark is also very close, which is good for walking, jogging, or picnicing.
The flat is very cosy and homy, and well-appointed. The bed was comfortable, and the bedroom is at the very back of the flat, so you don't get any street noise while you're trying to sleep. The kitchen appliances are very new and modern; we cooked several meals with ease. There is also a back deck that is very nice, and the weather was warm enough that we could enjoy our meals outdoors.
The price is also very, very good. Having staying in amesterdam twice before, you get a lot less for your money at the hotels in the city. This flat is an excellent deal.
Carl and Maria are excellent hosts. They are not intrusive at all, but are always available to answer questions.
I would highly reccomend this flat to anyone looking for a home away from home in amsterdam, and a more quiet scene than the city centre.

Gorgeous apartment in the heart of it all!

Left on 04/16/2011 for a stay in April 2011

We absolutely loved the beauty, simplicity, and comfort in this wonderful amsterdam apartment. Carl and Maria were the perfect hosts, helping us with anything we needed. Location was perfect, and we loved returning to a place that really felt like home. Nearby was easy grocery shopping, as well as excellent restaurants, and the most amazing deli called TriColore. Bike rental, canal boats, and canal bikes were also super close, and Vondelpark only a block away. Access from the airport couldn't be easier on one bus for only 4 euro. Wish we had time, and warmer weather to hang out on the fantastic deck. Only caution is that the stairs to this apartment are very steep as is common with houses in amsterdam. Otherwise I can't more highly recommend this apartment!

Steep Staircase Light, and spacious dining area and living room.

Fabulous time in this excellent apartment. Brilliant location, wonderful accommodation - really well equipped kitchen and a great welcome from our friendly hosts. Really felt at home for our stay - will recommend and return ourselves. Next time with less snow and some positive temperatures would be nice though ...

      Great apartment in amsterdam

Left on 10/22/2010 for a stay in October 2010

My wife, infant, and I recently spent 5 nights in amsterdam at this apartment. Maria and Carl couldn't have been more friendly or helpful, they're great people to welcome you at the door.

It's a beautifully decorated space, very modern, but not cold. The bed is comfortable, the kitchen very well appointed, and they even had a comfortable crib for our daughter. The location is excellent, a couple blocks to the rijksmuseum and one train stop away from the leidseplein. The Vondelpark is a couple blocks the other way. It's quiet at night, and the area never feels even remotely unsafe.

I'd recommend staying here without question.

Luxury in the heart of amsterdam

Left on 09/27/2010 for a stay in September 2010

A lovely apartment where our hosts made us very welcome with a bottle of wine and some chocolates.
The apartment was very comfortable with an excellent living room, dining area, bathroom and very comfortable bed room. The kitchen was equipped with all necessities for good cooking.
The location is among the best. It in the middle of a luxurious shopping area and only 5 minutes walk to the Leidscheplein (restaurants) and the famous museums.
Overall we very much enjoyed our stay in the heart of amsterdam. If we can make one suggestion it would be to be able to have more privacy in the living room as the three large windows lack curtains or blinds.

      Perfect

Left on 09/24/2010 for a stay in September 2010

Maria's and Carl's apartment is a perfect place to stay in amsterdam.. The only thing is the narrow stairs, if you carry big luggages like we did.. But other than that, we would love to recommend this apartment. The location is just nice, just above Tiffany's.. very near to Museumplein (where most of the museums are), Leidseplein (Hardrock, casino, etc).. Don't hesitate to stay here when you are visiting amsterdam.. The owners are very friendly and helpful...

      Beautiful apartment, Great Location

Left on 09/10/2010 for a stay in August 2010

My husband and I visit amsterdam every year for vacation and have stayed in hotels and apartments all over the city so we were happy to find this large, bright and well appointed apartment for our stay this year.

I cant give enough praise for this apartment! The quality of the materials, design of the apartment and amenities are top notch. There is a fabulous covered deck in the rear of the apartment that opens up to the interior courtyard which makes for a wonderful place to come home from a long day of shopping and unwind in a lovely tranquil setting. The kitchen is so well equipped , it's like being home!

Albert Heijn (grocery store) is a 4 minute walk from the apartment and there are tram stops close to the top of the and the bottom of the street so you're never far from transportation. The location of the Museum District is close to all of amsterdam's top attractions, but not full of the typical "party tourists" you'd see in the Nine Streets or the Dam areas. The Van Gogh, Stedelijk and Rijksmuseum are literally around the corner. Leidseplein is only 5 minutes away and of course, Vondel Park is practically in your back yard.

Your hosts, Carl and Maria are friendly, thoughtful, welcoming and responsive. I look forward to staying with them again and would enjoy getting to know them.

I cannot begin to describe how wonderful the apartment was and the service we received. We were greeted with with a lovely bouquet of flowers from the owner upon check in and provided documentation and directions on key areas to facilitate our stay. The apartment was situated in a lovely location of amsterdam and was beyond our expectations. I have already recommended this area and accomodation to friends. We enjoy our stay immensely and the only downfall was this it was too short!!! We had an amsterdam good time and look forward to visiting again.

good, if a little on the expensive side

Left on 06/23/2010 for a stay in June 2010

The owners were excellent, helpful when things didn't quite work as expected or when we needed information, and otherwise keeping a low profile. The flat itself is in a good location for the city center, and in very good condition and well laid-out, with a nice lived-in feel. It was a little on the expensive side (it says something that it was more costly than comparable places we rented in both Vienna and Venice) and it was the only place we stayed that asked for a deposit up front (though there was no problem with getting the full amount back at the end, we didn't scribble on the walls or anything), but overall it was a very enjoyable stay. Overall, probably the nicest of the 3 places we stayed in while abroad.
