ScotlandWell located, large comfortable apartment, highly recommended
Left on 04/27/2011 for a stay in April 2011
We had a most enjoyable stay of four nights at the beginning of april. The whole experience from initial enquiry and booking to arrival and departure was well handled by the owner who provided us with a wealth of information about the apartment and the area. The apartment is large for central amsterdam and has large windows and is very light. The photos give an accurate impression of the apartment , all the rooms are large apart from the 3rd bedroom which although small and lacks storage space is comfortable.. The apartment is well furnished and equipped and the owner left a huge bunch of flowers for us .We eat in one night which was most enjoyable and the rest of the time enjoyed walking from the flat around the Jordaan which we loved .
Highly recommended -

My family of 5 (including 3 adult teenage males) found this apartment after another amsterdam rental had taken a turn for the worse. Because of my earlier experience I was a bit apprehensive about trying again to rent an apartment in this beautiful city and considered looking for a hotel. However, the owners were quick to put me at ease, going out of their way to make our stay amazing. They were waiting at the apartment to greet us when we arrived at 8:30 am from the USa and conversed with our taxi driver when he tried to charge us 25,00€ more than he should have for the short drive from the airport (We ended up paying 30,00€ for the drive rather than the initial request of 55,00€). Then, they shared tips with us to prevent us having another booking mishap. They showed us around the apartment and reviewed the operation of the various appliances, and even presented us with fresh hot cappuccinos (a real treat). Before departing they gave us maps and told us about their favorite restaurants and places to visit, including details of a local music festival that we later booked online. The apartment was very clean (shoes were left at the door as we do at home) and nicely furnished. The rooftop deck was an amazing place to enjoy a meal and watch the sunset. The kitchen was well furnished and the laundry (a necessity) was easy to maneuver with the directions provided.
Next, during an evening out we ran into the owner unexpectedly and he was quick to introduce us to friends and again go out of his way to make us feel welcome.
Finally, I look forward to my next opportunity to visit amsterdam and would not hesitate to book a this fabulous apartment once again. -

Things we liked: huge apartment, light and clean, with fully equipped kitchen and laundry; comfortable sofas and beds; large bathroom, lots of hot water.; roof terrace with views [in our case of a wet grey city]; internet access.
Less keen on: the vertiginous stairs [we appreciate these are common in amsterdam]; the location, on the main ring road [although the location is also good for walking to most parts of the centre and there are supermarkets and restaurants nearby - go to Rakang on the Elandsgracht for amazing Thai food].
We couldn't make some of the lights work; and the bedrooms would be improved by a few extras [rugs, pictures etc] but our overall experience was a very positive one. The flexibility of an apartment was a real advantage.Response from Amsterdam Royal Apartment - 10/10/2010

Thanks for the hesitantly good review. I am however surprised at some of your comments; maybe you are new to city apartment rentals?
If you did not want apartment with stairs to climb then you should have rented an apartment that on the ground floor (you are clearly informed that there were stairs to climb in our listing). Sadly, you do not get access to balconies and roof terraces with views of the city without climbing a few stairs & we cannot guarantee the weather for your stay in Amsterdam. ;-)
The apartment is not on the main ring road as you indicate. It is on the first canal/road that encircles the old city centre, this is clearly indicated on the Google Map that we provide on our web site.
As you had our mobile phone number, home phone and email address we are surprise that you did not contact us to say that some of the lights were not working. This would have been very quickly resolved. It also would have been useful if you had told our housekeeper this on check out.
As this is our home for a large part of the year it is decorated to our minimal esthetic, which is clearly represented on our website. What you list as improvements to other may not be. We like big, clear, zen like spaces. It’s all a matter of taste.

Galway, IrelandA fantastic apartment in a great location

I would definately recommend this apartment to anyone travelling to amsterdam. Our party of five found the place ideal for our extended weekend. Communication with the owner was quick and easy. The location was ideal, just outside the canal ring but within walking distance of Leidesplien, Anne Frank's house and Dam Square. It was very easy to locate and well serviced by trams. There is a supermarket/off-licence on the corner that stays opens late. The rooms in the aprtment were bigger than they appeared on the website and the place was in immaculate condition, even though there were other guests that checked out earlier that day. We were met there by a friend of the owner. She was very pleasant and spent some time showing us around the rooms, what was where and how to use the appliances etc. She even was kind enough to make sure that there was some milk in the fridge so that we could have a cup of coffee when we arrived. A nice touch! Our flight home was late in the afternoon. Thre was no problem making arrangements for a later checkout.
The stairs are a bit steep but that is to be expected. The views from the apartment are nice. On my next visit to amsterdam (with my family) I will definately try to book this apartment.Response from Amsterdam Royal Apartment - 10/10/2010

Chicago, ILGreat apartment and location
Left on 05/27/2010 for a stay in May 2010
The apartment is much bigger than the pictures capture. It has two full floor and a rooftop with a great view of the city. We enjoyed grilling and eating meals on the rooftop. If the waether isn't nice enough to go outside, there is plenty of room in the spacious living room, 3 bed rooms, and main bathroom. We also were impressed with the cleanliness and flexibilty of check-in and check-out times to accomodate our travel schedule.
The location is great as well. It is right on the outskirts of the Canal Ring, near multiple trams that can take you around the city. You also have the option of walking or biking to many places in the city conveniently.
I would certainly recommend this as a place to stay. The one thing to note is that it is on the 3rd and 4th floor of the Canal House with very steep stairs. It may be hard for some to climb all of these stairs. Besides that, I have no negative comments!Response from Amsterdam Royal Apartment - 05/30/2010

We're glad that you enjoyed your stay at our apartment. Steep stairs are a fact of life in Amsterdam apartments and until recently this was the standard Dutch house design to maximize usable inside space.
Compared to many other apartments in Amsterdam that I have visited the stairs in our apartment are actually quite good, many houses are much worse and some have curving staircases with very narrow steps.
