Kensingtonia
London, United KingdomGreat apartment - but roof terrace effectively unusuable
Left on 08/09/2011 for a stay in August 2011
This was a very nice, comfortable, spacious apartment. It was clean but not to the usual clinical Dutch standards (the oven trays were dirty). It was very well equipped with cooking utensils and washing machine, dishwasher, coffee machine etc but no stand alone microwave. There was no remote for the tv, one of the windows in the living room didn't open properly and there were scuff marks on the walls so it could perhaps do with some tlc. There is one ensuite bathroom and an ensuite shower-room (no washbasin) for the second bedroom, but the only toilet is in the hall. The stairs are extremely steep so not suitable for those with mobility difficulties, young kids or bulky luggage. The roof terrace was up a very steep, ladder type staircase with an open side and accessed via a sprung trap door and was just a decked space. No where to sit and effectively impossible to bring up drinks etc, unless you are very good at balancing! Unfortunately this made me feel rather negative about it - I had booked an apartment with outside space in anticipation of hot weather - which we had!
It was in a very good location, just outside the centre with excellent transport links (to the museum district and Centraal Station among others) and in easy walking distance of the anne Frank House and the pretty Jordaan canals. The street itself is not particularly pretty but has interesting shops, buildings etc. It is a main road but the bedrooms were quiet even with the windows open. Check in/Check out very straightforward and the staff were very pleasant in my dealings with them. -

A lovely apartment in a great location. The only thing missing that would be handy is a microwave oven.

I really enjoyed staying in the apartment as opposed to renting a hotel room. The kitchen and full size fridge was great for staying longer than a week and it was nice to have a living room to relax in after a long day on the town. With the trams it was still convenient to get around and it was actually great to escape the hustle when you wanted to. I wouldn't hesitate to use these services again. For one person it might be a bit more than staying in a modest hotel, but for the three of us, it was much better to have the apartment instead of two hotel rooms. Check in was super easy and I'm sure that if we had a problem it would have been taken care of immediately.
