Additional Location Information
Probably the image most associated with the city is that of elegant gabled mansions richly decorated and beautifully laid out facing water canals lined with trees. This is where the apartment is located, in the centre of Amsterdam at the Singel, one of the four major Amsterdam canals. The crescent-shaped rings of man made waterways, Singel, Herengracht, Keizersgracht, and Prinsengracht, called the Grachtengordel in Dutch, were built around the old heart of town during the 17th century's Dutch Golden Age.
The apartment is close to the picturesque 9-straatjes or nine little streets which cross these canals. They are fantastic for shopping, having great lunches and enjoying the typically Amsterdam cafés. The Anne Frank house is only a ten minute walk and the lovely Jordaan area is reachable within a five minutes walk so is the Central Station and Dam square.
It's easy to find many means of public transport, specially trams, there are also buses and taxis, but then again, you are in a privilege position to access the endless display of hot spots around town. Art museums, theatre and architecture are all part of the Amsterdam scene and simply walking through the colourful neighbourhoods offers an exceptional cultural experience.

Nashville, TennesseeCharming apartment on the canal!
Left on 11/07/2012 for a stay in October 2012
We loved our stay in this canal house in amsterdam. The kitchen and two and 1/2 baths were modern and met our needs perfectly. Furnishings in the apartment were an eclectic mix of antiques and more modern "finds." We felt like we were guests in a home rather than renters. The location was easily accessible to many tourist areas, yet far enough away that we enjoyed a quiet neighborhood with excellent small restaurants and shops. Two of the bedrooms have "loft" type beds, so if you are claustrophobic this could be a problem. The master bedroom has a wonderful view of the Singel Canal; very pleasant. There is construction going on in the basement so the hallways are a tad messy, but once you are in the apartment you soon forget this.

TurkuGood, but not excellent.
Left on 08/19/2012 for a stay in August 2012
As said in many other reviews the property is in good location and represents nicely the building tradition of amsterdam.
The apartment is spacious and fairly good equipped. Suitable for bigger groups and families who are ready to climb steep stairs. The beds are ok, but be aware not to use more beds than you bought, cause they are ready made as if you were allowed to use them. We avoided that as we do rent our yard house at home and know how it is!
Improvement for the stay could have been if a proper cleaning/painting of the basement floors would have been made. We would never allow the guests to go through such a dirty corridor and stairs. Also the apartment would need a huge turnout cleaning and dusting all places and removing the dust collectors like animal heads and skulls at least in the bed rooms. Be aware also that there is no air-conditioning in the house and just one fan, particularly in summer time. In the kitchen, which was quite nicely equipped as such, we missed some kettle holders and a proper coffee machine able to make more that one cup at the time.
Most curious, even frightening thing, for us was the guy sneaking around a couple of times claiming to be the owner (how would we know if he really was??). We could not figure out any reason for the owner to hang around as we dealt with the Short Stay Group/Stay City in all matters. -

We had a wonderful stay, and loved the accommodations. Truly nothing bad to say at all about this amazing place.
Thank you so much. -

Left on 12/06/2010 for a stay in November 2010
Though the location was conveniently located, this rental was not 100% as advertised. The "easy flights" of stairs were very narrow/steep and found not to be user friendly for seniors or those with hip problems. The free Wifi worked only 1 day which caused major inconveniences for family to conduct business. The bedroom with the sleigh style bed had only 1 radiator that worked and the unusually long drapery blocked airflow from the functioning heater. The bulky heavy material made it difficult to fold up out of the way. The sink in the bottom toilet leaked. The tumble dryer quit working the night before checkout after washing a load of clothes. With no phone available, it was difficult to contact the company to report issues though several unsuccessful attempts had been made at different times of the day. While the additional convenience fees were paid for an agent to meet at the property with the key and show the operation of the apartment, the very nice agent was unfamiliar with the specifics of the property and stated so. (Not sure why he was sent.) For the price I expected the apartment perhaps as photos advertised and not covered furniture hiding tired/torn/worn fabric.
On the positive side, lots of bed space for large groups.

Manager
Dear guest,
Thank you for your feedback. As far as we understand, our service desk has already contacted you directly about the above mentioned issues. As our service desk mentioned in the correspondence with you, we are very sorry to hear that you experienced so many technical problems. When we would have known this during your stay, we could have acted on the problems straight away. Therefore we encourage our guests to contact us as soon as they experience a problem.
In the mean time we have discussed your issues with the technical department and all the problems have been fixed. We have also contacted the owner of the apartment, to see what needs to be done to offer our guests better quality.
Regarding the availability of our service desk we can inform you that we are in the process of getting a new telephone operating system, with the intention to improve our availability when guests need to contact us.
Furthermore we will look into what happened with the check-in and see why the agent did not know enough about the apartment.
We nevertheless hope that we may welcome you back in one of our apartments in Amsterdam or in one of our other cities.
Kind regards,
Short Stay Group Amsterdam -

DublinGood choice of apartment and location...
Left on 10/21/2010 for a stay in August 2010
We choose the Singel Canal apartment because we needed a 6 bed property for our group. Its in a great location overlooking the Singel Canal and just 5-10 minutes walk from Centraal Station. The apartment is not suitable for people with mobility issues as its actually on the 3rd and 4th floors so even getting suitcases up the stairs was an issue for some of our group. The two double bedrooms are fine but the single rooms were a little small. In one of these rooms the bed was virtually within a metre of the ceiling so its only suitable for a child or young teenager. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils etc but some of the crockery was chipped and could do with being replaced. The roof terrace was a good size however, the wooden table and chairs were gray/black from many years of being in the open and never being painted. Some of them were actually broken. It is perhaps the one feature of this apartment that lets it down big time!
Its a good apartment in a good location which could do with a little bit of a sprucing up and some new furniture for the roof terrace. -

I stayed in this apartment for several days in august 2010.
First off it's location is ideal - it's a quick stroll to Dam Square and most other attractions and there are bars and cafés about a minute away. Plus the views are fantastic - it's right on the Single canal.
The apartment itself is 3 stories with a rooftop garden (furniture up there needs to be replaced guys) and is a great place to stay in amsterdam. It was so nice I had trouble getting my friends to actually leave and go outside!
Plenty of beds and bedrooms and 3 bathrooms that I can remember plus a fully equipped modern kitchen.
Only downside is that there's a few stairs to be climbed to get to the apartment but after that you're gonna love your stay. -

Dublin, IrelandGreat house, great location, great time!
Left on 04/08/2010 for a stay in February 2010
We stayed in Singel Canal for 4 nights in mid Feb 2010. Although it was cold and snowing outside with frozen canals, we were warm and cosy within (although the main sitting room would greatly benefit from curtains to keep out the winter chill when sitting with your back to it). We had 3 kids (8-14) with us and they has a ball, loved the house and the city.
The reservation system was flawless and the staff very helpful on arrival to pick up the keys.
We'll be back as soon as the recession is over and public servants get their money back!!

First, I'm french speaking, so, please be indulgent when you'll be reading
those next lines, I will try to translate in english all the joy I felted when I
entered this appart. on Singel Canal.
This place has a soul! No! Many souls: one in almost each room!
All the four bedrooms are original, clean, «homy» and, the sheets are as
soft as light butter...
The view on the canal, by he living room & the master bedroom is magic
(even in january), so I can imagine what it will looks like in spring &
summer...
The kitchen is one the best I've rent: a LOT a dishes... I mean nice & family
dishes, just like the one you keep for fancy diners at home (ok, pots and
pans could be larger... not easy to cook for 5 persons in those small ones..)
The owner is charming, and bonus for me: he speaks french!!
Very touching to realise that he left a lot of personal items in the appart:
books, pictures... It helps us to fell in a «friend's appart», instead of a
«rental place»
Nice thought the bottle of rosé!!
The location is great! 12 minutes walking from the train station!!
Ameliorations: The number the agency gave me was quite a mystery when I
did arrive at the train station. No one could help me, at the telephone
booth and even inside the central... so, after 40 minutes of trying the
conclusion was that «short & stay» was not existing... Quite deceiving when
you're there with your luggages and 3 young people dreaming of that stay
in Amsterdam since several weeks! (Finally, i'ts a lady from the tourist
agency upstairs the central who kindly helped me....)
Also, the appart is sooo beautiful, so, may I kindly suggest that the
entrance (from the street) should be, let's say, more «welcoming»... the
corridor is very ordinary...
But despite those little notes, I would recommand this appart to all my best
friends.
Please say hello to the owner for me & my family.
We lefted kind notes for him in a big red tulips bouquet when we left... but I
don't know if he got them...

We loved the apartment - the canals were frozen but the sun came streaming in the front windows every morning. It was very convenient for my work and very pretty to walk around the neighbourhood, with good restaurants. We only used only the two double bedrooms, and I am not sure anyone other than children would be happy in the back bedrooms, but in all other respects the apartment was perfect. I have to come back to Amsterdam again for three visits in September, November and January and very much hope that we will be able to stay in Singel again.
