Left on 09/15/2011 for a stay in April 2011
Renting a villa is a great alternative to staying in a hotel. We've stayed at Poinsettia 3 times in the past three years. It is in a grouping of villas known as Indigo Reef, which sits nicely on a hillside sloping towards the ocean. The beach is just down the driveway and is great for walking and shelling. A+ beaches and restaurants are nearby.
Poinsettia is well appointed with comfortable beds and quality linens, a gourmet kitchen and appliances, a wonderful rooftop patio with fantastic views and sunsets and a comfy spot for amazing stargazing. The grounds are immaculately kept by very friendly people who take pride in their work- the collection of plants is extensive, colorful and smells heavenly of frangipani and gardenia. The spacing of the villas with the thoughtfully planned plantings allow for privacy and the walk from the villa to the common pool is like walking through a mini botanical garden. Dining out is pricey in anguilla so it is great to have the kitchen for cooking- especially if you're traveling with kids as we did, one of our stays there. Cooking the local catch of the day (think red snapper ,lobster), being able to have coffee when you want it, being able to blend up our own potent potables are all a plus. The owner is eager to please and very helpful with pick up from the ferry or airport and car rental arrangements, and keeps in touch throughout your stay to make sure all is as it should be. Housekeeping staff is friendly and attentive. Beach chairs are available to borrow for visiting other sites. I am partial to the western half of the island and the location is perfect.
The pool is small but adequate and floats are available to use- some of the villas within Indigo Reef have private pools, so this shared one is never crowded. Having a washer and dryer to use means you can pack less clothing and more food!
Though anguilla is growing, it is still a place where you can have the feel of the old Caribbean, and it is not a crowded place (at least not when we go). Locals are approachable, friendly and welcoming. We've made some good friends since we first went there in 1997. Poinsettia is a wonderful home base. Wi FI is a plus. I love anguilla. I love Indigo Reef and Poinsettia, though Ingrid's other villas, called Mangrove and Gardenia are lovely as well- each unique. We'll be going back soon!
