Description from the owner

In a quiet and tranquil valley, off the grid, in the garden of an old farm house

the cottage is a recently built the traditional Caribbean style. We are environmentally conscience so the cabin is totally eco, with solar energy and uses only collected rainwater. The shower is open to the sky - there is nothing like showering under the stars! The bedroom is large and airy with windows on 3 sides, the door on the 4th leads Narnia like through the wardrobe to the bathroom. From the netted four poster bed, look over the large balcony and through the garden to the rolling hills covered in lemon grass. There is a large hammock on this balcony,...Read more

    Additional Location Information

Tranquil Farm is an old farm house hidden away, off the grid, in a beautiful and unspoilt area of Antigua's woodlands. The grounds are surrounded by trees and in this 2.5 acre garden, where the cottage is located, there is a pond that attracts the wild birdlife and plenty of trails that lead straight from the house through the woodlands to varied views of the island - and we can even lend you a friendly canine walking companion!
Although we are in this quiet and hidden area of countryside it is only a 10 minute drive down the lush and scenic road of Fig Tree Drive to the nearest beach at Carlisle Bay, and the luxury of Carlisle Bay Resort. Beyond Carlisle, for a further 15 minutes or so, are some of the best beaches in Antigua laid out before you along the West Coast.
It is a 20 minute drive from Tranquil Valley to either English Harbour or Jolly Harbour the two main yachting centres or St. John’s, the capitol of Antigua.

      Rustic Simplicity

Left on 02/11/2013 for a stay in February 2013

Listening to the birds, slip out of the quality linen and into the hammock. Watch the changing early morning light between the chapters of a good book. Take your breakfast scraps on a plate to entice the bullfinches or bananakeets for closer observation. This slows down your reading in time with the clock to match the ambience.

The carefully designed layout and well placed shrubbery affords privacy with the comfort of the hosts home nearby. The two ducks and 3 dogs add to the family farm feel. The dogs were willing escorts for afternoon walks on carefree and car free days. Tranquil Farm is a well loved, visually pleasing practical property with some wood furnishings, artistic accents and a spiritually cleansing demeanor like a breath of fresh air.

A wonderful location in the heart of antigua

Left on 09/11/2012 for a stay in September 2012

My fiancee and I had wanted to visit antigua for quite a while. As keen travellers we were interested in staying clear of the big resorts and spending our time in the heart of the island and embrace antiguas culture and wildlife. After some research we decided to stay at the Eco Cabin, and looking back on it now, we couldn't have made a better decision.

We had arranged to rent a car from the airport and drive out to the Cabin. Having looked at a map before we left home we thought that the journey could be slightly tricky around the unfamiliar roads of antigua. As it turned out the drive was quite the opposite. Louise had emailed us with excellent directions including detailed turn-by-turn instructions from the airport to the Cabin with useful landmarks to look out for on the way. This made the journey straighforward, and we found the Cabin with ease.

Upon arrival we were greeted by Louise and her daughter who live on a house a few hundred yards from the Eco Cabin. They were both friendly and welcoming as they showed us around. The first thing we noticed was how perfect this place was for a couple's getaway and as a place to relax and forget about the troubles of city life.

As you approach the front of the cabin there is a wooden decking with comfortable chairs, a table and a hammock. This area is a picturesque scene and was wondeful for simply relaxing and taking in the surroundings whilst reading a book or listening to some music. The main bedroom was very spacious for two people. The bed has a mosquito net surrounding it which successfully protected us during the night for our entire stay. There is ample closet space and even a small collection of books and board games for entertainment. Moving through the Cabin, the outdoor kitchen is on the other side of the bedroom and provided us everything we required . The cooker and fridge/freezer were in perfect working order and we had all the untensils we required for preparing food. The location of the kitchen is ideal for having dinner whilst looking out onto the beautiful Carribean sunset. The outdoor shower is truly unique and really reminds you of how at one with nature you are whilst staying at the Eco Cabin. It's open to the sky and on two sides which provides sufficient privacy whilst still allowing you to take in the beauty of the surroundings. There is an adjoining toilet and sink which are fully closed to the surroundings providing privacy.

We were hugely impressed with the accomodation, but the thing that really made this a memorable holiday was the hospitality of Louise during our stay. Prior to our visit we had informed Louise that I'm vegetarian and my fiancee vegan, and when we arrived the fridge was stocked with food and drink that was perfect for us. She also provided a bottle of champagne and a bottle of rum which we certainly enjoyed! Louise even went to the effort of providing us with a local mobile phone for us to call her at any time if required whilst we were on the island. The basics requirements were taken care of too. The entire Cabin was very clean and tidy and there was always plentiful drinking water for us.

Overall I cannot reccomend the Eco Cabin highly enough. Its an ideal couple's retreat and a chance to totally de-stress from your day to day life. It's a short drive to the English Harbour as well as Darkwood beach which is without doubt the most beautiful beach I have ever seen (Look up Darkwood beach on tripadvisor to see for yourself).

Lastly I would like to thank Louise for making it such a wonderful vacation for us. We will ceretainly be coming back to the Eco Cabin when we return to antigua some time in the future.

Me and my partner spent three weeks in this house, there's everything you need to spend a holiday in peace and quiet, the house is in a location convenient to all the beautiful beaches of the island and a on returning after a day at the beach you will feel at home.
The room is large and clean with a large closet to store things, the kitchen is equipped with everything you need and there is a beautiful outdoor shower to wash watching the stars.
We thank Louise for her kind hospitality and hope to see you again soon.
