Description from the owner
Colonial architecture mixed with the world of zen and different influcences makes this house a very unique experience. This house is meant for you if you want to experience the beauty of Guatemala and feel at home at the same time.
As you wake up to the sound of the Guatemalan countryside (distant roosters, singing birds...), you open your eyes as the sun rises and watch the face of the nearby volcano transform from a shadow to a pink/yellow morning glow; an invite to experience another wonderful day in the tropics. The newly added roof-top terrace is probably "the" place to be for a good morning stretch or a serene yoga session amids...Read more

Suffolk, EnglandExcellent week
Left on 05/03/2013 for a stay in April 2013
We had a great time at this comfortable, clean, cosy house before leaving for our second week at the lake. I think this was the best equipped house I've ever rented - more like a home than just a rental. It's in a quiet area just out of town - a bit tricky to find, so we were grateful for the map provided, and for the house phone and cell phone for contacting the airport, taxi drivers etc. Bottled water isn't necessary as there is a filtered water tap. The land-rover was very useful for runs into town. My Spanish isn't brilliant but I managed to communicate with the lovely Nancy, the housekeeper, well enough. I can recommend her tasty Guatemalan bbq. Jose spoke good English and was charming. We had a spontaneous musical evening one night with him on the house keyboard and my sons' partners singing, as he plays the piano in local hotels! We spent a lot of time in the sheltered garden and sitting on the roof decking watching the volcano belching smoke in the distance. My son was a big fan of the Mayan sauna. We climbed the Pacaya volcano on a day when you couldn't see a thing (I went up on horseback!), but it was still great fun, sliding back down the ash in zero visilbility (yes, you will get very dirty). We walked up to the Mirador in antigua to admire the view and had a laugh making chocolate from scratch at the Choco Museum with the irrepressible Pablo. The Porta Hotel (8a Calle Poniente) has a lovely pool and garden that you can pay a few dollars to use if you feel like a lazy day. We enjoyed the guided tour of the old convent at the Hotel Santa Domingo (the guide is quite a character). There are so many lovely bars and restaurants in the town, but we particularly enjoyed Frida's (great food and staff) on 5th avenue North (where the Santa Catalina arch is). We could easily have spent another week here!

Left on 04/28/2013 for a stay in April 2013
My husband and I have stayed in Greg's lovely home twice in the last 13 months or so. We just got married in antigua and knew we wanted to stay in the home again during our experience leading up to the wedding. The house is beautiful. The decor is welcoming and calming after a long day trekking around town. And the use of the car is a really nice plus. Loved sitting out on the front porch with our morning coffee and waving at the security guards and sitting in the backyard reading in the afternoon. Greg is attentive to any requests and really does all he can to make you feel comfortable. We had the housekeeper make us dinner and it was really great. One of our best meals. Definitely take Greg up on his restaurant recommendations. Our faves. Cafe Condessa, Tartine, brunch or dinner at Meson Panza Verde, Hotel Posado de Don Rodrigo, and most definitely kids restaurant. We had the most amazing experience there and if you can make it to the restaurant I highly recommend. I loved that Greg's house is off the beaten path a bit and quieter, but still close enough that you could even walk or bike if you don't want to use the car. Love antigua so much and this house is really special.

Greg, the owner was very helpfull, and very quick in his replies.
The house is really nice, with alot of different spaces, aswell inside and and in the garden. This made it perfect for us (5 people) to live in, as well to even invite some extra people to stay over.
The big kitchen, fully equiped is great as well.
The view from the masterbedroom and the terace is really very nice.
The car we got was great! Just 5 min. and you are in the centre of antigua.
We knew antigua very well allready, it was very nice this time to live just outside of the center and wake up peacefully, with the sound of the birds and the views of the vulcano. I would highly recommend it. Thx Greg. -

My husband and I stayed at "Casa De Gregrio" for one glorious week in December. We were thrilled by the tranquilty of the house, which is located just outside antigua. The house had everything we needed to ensure our stay was comfortable. All of the people we met while staying here were friendly and helpful. The owner, Greg was extremely accommodating. He answered all of questions and provided us with valuable resources--arranging our transportation to and from the airport as well as our daily in home Spanish lessons. Sabina, our Spanish teacher, was friendly and knowledgeable. Her lessons were tailored around our personal needs and our visit to San antonio aguas Calientes was unforgettable. We miss the warmth of the people and the spectacular views on the roof-top deck. If we find our way back to antigua, we would definitely stay here again. Muchas Gracias!

This house, situated just outside of antigua, is beautiful and very well maintained. The gardens are super peaceful and great for sitting and enjoying the view, the sun, or a meal. A car is provided for the five minute drive into town, or anywhere else in the area. Being outside of the center gives you a peaceful, quiet environment while still being just minutes away from the center. Gardner and maid are provided. Perfect place for as many as six or eight people. Highly recomended

I was completely delighted by the charm and warmth of Casa Gregirio. I felt completely at home and cozy (in a very nice sized house). It was a perfect oasis just minutes outside of the hustle and bustle. Beautiful gardens offered a space of serenity and I loved cooking in the kitchen! Thank you for offering a space that is filled with comfort and love! I look forward to staying there again on my next visit.

The home has great accommodations for couples and families. You will be greeted by angela the housekeeper to show you around and make you feel welcome. The home is a wonderful place just to relax after hiking the ruins, volcanoes, and villages. Guatemala is a world of it's own. Antigua has the best location for seeing the sights of the country. We went with 2 other couples and had the best vacation ever in part due to the home stay and the contacts made available from the owner. Greg helped us hook up with a van driver (Victor) who picked us up from Guatemala City, took us to shopping, and to sites all over Guatemala. The home was very clean and accommodations were incredible. The owner was extremely helpful planning the trip. We look forward to our next trip back to this fantastic home in beautiful antigua.

We went to antigua to attend a wedding and stayed in Greg's home. The driver picked us up at the airport and drove us to the place. The location was perfect! The use of the car was great. We were able to find our way around antigua after a few visits to town. The house was great and spacious enough for all 6 of us. The listing, description and pictures were accurate. Angela the house keeper prepared several meals for us and did a great job. Greg was very helpful when we had problems with the internet. We have 3 homes on Flipkey and would recommend Greg's home for your antigua stay.

My family and my parents stayed for 9 days in this lovely home. When we arrived Greg was there to meet us and show us his beautiful home. He was extremely nice and helpful throughout the week. The house was just perfect! The views from the roof top deck are amazing! We watch the volcano puff smoke every morning. I have never been at a more peaceful place standing up there. I loved that the home is outside of the city (but not too far). I enjoyed the fact that there is only one TV. My kids ages 12 and 8 played checkers and chess almost every day. The Land Rover was a great bonus; we used it every day to go into the city. I highly recommend this home.

We stayed at the house for 4 weeks and found it a peaceful place outside the city. View was spectacular from the roof and neighborhood safe with guard on duty. Our whole family enjoyed all the meals cooked for us at the house. The vehicle worked well; about 1 to 1.5 miles(5 to 10 minutes) to various locations in the city.

For our second stay in Guatemala we opted for a holiday rental - our first experience!
We felt like we were in a 5* hotel. The property has many loving details and a great number of different "spaces" to sit it. This is a very choice for a group of friends (as we were travelling with another couple) as everyone can find their own space.
Two of our favorite parts of the house were 1. the kitchen - large and well equipped, and 2. the garden - had many meals and relaxing moments there.
Antigua was easy to get to - we used the vehicle for these short trips into town. Parking was never a problem -

What a delight to have a home instead of a hotel in antigua . . . La Casa De Gregorio was the perfect place to land when arriving in Guatemala. The Mayan sauna and rooftop terrace for morning yoga with a backdrop of Volcan agua a blessing to behold :)

My boyfriend and I stayed at Greg's beautiful home for 9 nights. We are at the tail end of our stay now and I hate to say goodbye to this beautiful house. Every detail is taken care of. From a fully equipped kitchen to lots of peaceful resting spots outside. We felt like a king and queen in such a large house but loved every minute of it. The wonderful housekeeper angela cooked us a BBQ dinner one night that was amazing. The other days we relaxed in the morning reading outside, took in the views from the amazing roof top deck and then headed out to explore antigua with the super convenient Land Rover. This is my second time in La antigua and we loved it so much that we've decided to marry here next year. We hope to once again book the house while we're back celebrating our nuptials. Don't miss out on Luna for crepes, the typical plate at Fonda, and the amazing cream cake dessert with berries on the bottom from Cafe Condessa. Oh, and live music at Rainbow Cafe. For a special night out, sitting on the rooftop at Tartine, booking the "cave" well in advance for a super romantic food experience all lit by candles at La Sereno, or having dinner with live music on Fridays or a fantastic Sunday brunch at Meson Panza Verde Hotel shouldn't be missed.

We spent 8 days in Greg's house and it was incredible. The house is beautiful (though, be aware...there are many stairs), and the views were outstanding. One night we sat on the rooftop and watched Volcan Fuego explode red sparks! The house has everything you could possibly need and more. We spent most of every day either in the gorgeous backyard garden with the fountain bubbling away, or on the front porch in the rocking chairs listening to the birds. Pure bliss. Greg was incredibly helpful setting up a number of extras for us before we ever arrived, and it made the visit just that more delightful. We had both a traditional lunch and breakfast (made by ana) and both were absolutely delicious (and plentiful). We also had a Spanish tutor (the incredible Sabina!) at the house for five of the days, and we were amazed by how much we learned in such a short time. It was also great to have use of the Range Rover. It easily got us to wherever we needed to go. I really can't recommend this place (and these people) highly enough. We're already trying to figure out when we can come back

The house is great. Very interesting, completely equipped and all the mod-cons. Even better, it comes with wonderful twice-a-week housekeeper and a contingent of nearby 'friends' of the landlord that help put things right when the inevitable happens. I am now a big fan of Greg and the 'family' we met. But as good as they all were, the best part is the use of the 'rover'. You won't put on many miles or kilometers but just being able to go to town for shopping or dinner was a huge bonus. And 'checking out' the local coffee farms and local villages was a treat.

The house is excellent, lots of space, full kitchen, great backyard and an older model Land Rover was provided which was perfect to get around locally!
The only thing I'd change it perhaps better mattresses/ bedding but that big said, I would stay here again and will for sure when I am next in antigua!
Greg also offers in house breakfast service and left us a cell phone with a 10Q phone card, nice touch!
Thanks Greg, we loved it. -

Ohhh the view, This house has a rooftop deck with beautiful 360 view. We daily watched one of the valcanos spew smoke. The house was roomy, with plenty of space to hang out together or get away from each other. I would love to come back someday. The only thing lacking was television. Only one in the house with a DVD player for movies, no TV.

CaliforniaA perfect home-base for our one-month visit to Guatemala
Left on 06/29/2011 for a stay in June 2011
We fell in love with the house after viewing photos online. Come to find out, the photos don't do the property justice. The house is even more fabulous than the photos let on.
"Angela the amazing" helped us in a million different ways. In addition to sprucing up the place twice per week, she prepared two decadent and delicious breakfasts, provided TLC when members of our family were ill, taught us a couple Guatemalan recipes, and responded very promptly to a couple issues that popped up during our one-month stay. (For example, one night we couldn't get the hot water to turn off at one of the sinks -- she was over in a flash and then coordinated the logistics of having a plumber over the next day to totally fix the problem.) Angela is a goddess (and--now--a friend).
As a heads-up to other parents of small children, we spent a good deal of time during the first week childproofing the house. Our 18-month old was absolutely enthralled by the many beautiful objects in the home -- llamas made of cornstalks, bowls full of shells, colorful candles, beaded pillows, etc. We wanted to protect Greg's property, so we tucked those things in one of the back rooms.
On a related note, there are a lot of level changes around the house (a step up here; a step down there). It took our kiddo a couple days to figure them out, but a more novice walker might need some extra help. Also, the stairs don't have a rail or other barrier on one side, making them a bit extra precarious for the little ones.
Overall, the house served as the perfect home-base for our one-month visit to Guatemala. We would welcome the opportunity to stay here again.
(Oh! If you're looking for a great language school, check out CSa. We worked with Loida and Olga -- both are amazingly talented teachers. Tell them Deb and Stew say hi!)Response from Greg - 06/29/2011

I have stayed at this beautiful property 3 times and continue to rate it one of the most pleasurable and comfortable holidaying homes I have experienced. The architecture and design features are stunning - a blending of sleek modernity with morrocan colours, soft cosy textiles, cushions everywhere and attractive art touches. The beds have great mattresses, good linens, and the master bathroom has my ideal of the ultimate bathtub - the owner even provided romantic candles everywhere to enjoy it with. The last time I stayed here, I arrived with my best friend, her husband and their recently born baby and the house felt so much like home instantly, we hardly wanted to leave. The DVD collection and sound system is very extensive with movies for all ages. The car made getting to and from antigua with shopping a breeze and we found parking easily enough in the parking lots dotted around town. Having said that, I frequently took tuktuks home for about $1 which was incredibly easy too when others were using the car. I preferred living in such a quiet, green suburb to escape the noise of traffic that I have experienced on other visits to antigua. Its a great place to cook and entertain and the sauna/temascal is wonderful under the stars at night and in great condition - very clean! The lovely owner, greg, provides a great overview of good restaurants and attractions and knows the area inside and out- hiking pacaya volcano is unbeliveable as is eating your way around antigua (I particularly enjoyed Hector's restaurant, Sabe Rico, brunch at Panza Verde and Cafe Condessa's cheese cake). We were pleased to have good wifi connection and also felt very secure in the house itself. The area's guard was friendly and helpful too. I highly recommend this property to those looking for a high-standard of accomodation to really enjoy the delights of antigua and stunning Guatemala.
