The house was comfortable and included everything imaginable. The service was perfect and the location ideal! The proximity to the beach and the large patio to view dolphins, seals, otters and pelicans was pure bliss. We were blessed with the most beautiful weather.

Our group ranged from ages 8 to 80 and it was a perfect house for everyone. You are literally on the sand when you walk off the front deck. How much better could that get! The lay out was perfect for our needs. Enough bathrooms (3) and beds (7) for everyone.
The decor is definitely California Beach Living circa 1970 which was kind of cool... I would suggest bringing a good play list from the early 70's to get the full vibe of the place! We also loved the location. There is a great Farmers Market on Saturday's in aptos and restaurants and grocery stores are within a mile. But other than that - don't leave! Just enjoy the waves and the view. -

Oakland, CABeautiful location, great windows, child friendly

We enjoyed our stay in aptos at The Waves. Being able to step directly onto the beach from the deck is sublime. The house is comfortable and you don't have to worry about keeping things pristine since it is family friendly. The courtyard was a nice place for the kids to run around when we didn't want them unattended on the beach. The wall of windows makes for a breath taking view all day long.

When we arrived at The Waves we were pleased that the home was right in the sand. You can't get a better location than this. The home was just as described and quite suitable for a stay at the beach. The kitchen is tight but that is fin and we were warned. It is fine for two people to be cooking and well appointed. The kitchen table is large and room for plenty. The linens were good and the sleeping arrangements worked out well. The house is just perfect for a family get together at the beach.
The negatives about this property that I feel could use improvements is that the deck could use some decent furniture and a nice table. With such an incredible view of the ocean and all it's wildlife, we only wish there were more well appointed furniture to sit on. Aldo, it would be very nice if there was a decent barbecue to cook out on. We like to do fish and steaks and would have liked to have a gas BBQ. Finally, I feel like the home needs a deep clean of sinks and tubs to remove any mold or residue.
All in all, we would rent this home again. It is a little precarious with the cliff right behind it and a home under construction looming above... with the heavy rain when we were there. But as far as a beach house rental that is actually on the beach- we were very happy and content. Thank you! -

San FranciscoUnique property, great for big group who enjoys rustic ambiance.

Since this was a home costume made it has many special features. We loved the big glass window and the bunk beds made like they were on a ship. Well stocked in the kitchen and linens. Great beach access!!! Quiet surroundings. It appears the house is now used only for vacations/rentals, so décor and attention to details is more of a kitschy mix than something put together by one eye. If you are looking for modern this isn't the home for you. A bit more attention to both patios would be helpful. A bit expensive. We loved our stay. Great for families with kids.

Davis, CAThe Perfect Beach Vacation for the Whole Family!
Left on 06/16/2011 for a stay in June 2011
This home is absolutely amazing. I rented it for a week for a vacation with my extended family -- my very elderly grandparents, my parents with somewhat limited mobility, and my and my sister's families, which include our two toddlers. The toddlers played for hours on the beach, just a handful of steps from the house. (I was relieved upon arrival to see that there was a barrier between the porch and the beach itself.) My older relatives could sit in the house or on the front porch and watch the ocean without having to walk anywhere. It really feels like you are on the beach, even inside. We watched pelicans, seals, and even a pod of dolphins leaping across the bay. The house itself is a little small when filled to capacity (only two people comfortably fit in kitchen at a time). But the windows make it feel light and spacious despite this, and the wood everywhere is cozy and charming. We had a lovely vacation and it was absolutely the perfect house for what we were looking for -- something for everyone from toddlers to 90 year olds.

Shutters on all the windows made the house feel like a dark cave. No cell phone service at the home--had to go up the hill every day to retrieve messages. Low cfl wattage light bulbs made evening reading difficult. Closets were unusable since they were filled with old lounge cushions, ladder, vacuum cleaner, odd bedding, etc. Dining room chairs were rickety, as were some of the outdoor chairs. We were only able to open 3 windows, which made it really stuffy at night. The neatniks among us were dying to get trash bags and clean out the cupboards! Kendall & Potter and the linen service were perfect, and the house was basically clean. The best part was the large deck with private access to the sandy beach. The home, while architecturally interesting, needed some loving care. It was a disappointment, particularly at the price point paid for the rental.

We are sorry that you felt like you were in a Cave. We know that the shutters can make it dark. Once they are open it is VERY bright inside! We have asked the owenr to remove all personal items from the closets. The closet you are refering to is in the downstairs bedroom where they store the outside cushions and vacuum. We will let the owner know about the chairs. We hope to see you again!

Sebastopol, CAGreat 3-generation vacation!
Left on 06/11/2009 for a stay in September 2008
We were looking for a place to celebrate my 60th birthday where the 3 grandkids could play on the beach to their heart's content. "The Waves" was perfect! There was a funky coziness to its aging design that allowed us to kick back and thoroughly enjoy our time together. Whether we were inside, watching the panorama of nature unfold through the massive windows-dozens of pelicans diving into the water with sea gulls never far behind vying for leftovers- or out on the deck eating lunch while a school of dolphins swam by, we felt like we'd discovered a little bit of heaven!
My grandkids, ages 8,3, and almost 2, were totally captivated by the "big sandbox" right down the stairs from the deck. We could easily watch them from the long bench fronting the deck where the bright colored pads made it so comfortable and we never missed a ray of sun! We even found a kite in a storage shed and Grandpa showed off his kite-flying skills!
My chef/son grilled on one of the 2 barbecues provided and cooked up a storm in the kitchen. Since the fairly well-equipped kitchen was quite small, I was only allowed in for liquids (fine with me!), and the large dining table was pressed into use for food prep.
We were told to bring our own bedding and towels, but when we got there, found that there were blankets and some towels available for us. It would have been nice to know ahead of time what was there. The stairs up to the bedrooms were ship-like with wide planks and a short rise, to the delight of my arthritic knee and hips!
The kids were the early-risers and often the first to see the seals and otters playing in the waves. We wish we had remembered to bring the binoculars!
This house is not the Ritz, but it has character - it's warm, inviting, and so user-friendly! We all agree that we would go back to "The Waves" in a heartbeat!
