    Additional Location Information

    TACHAU
These mid-18th century buildings in the most attractive luminous warm limestone located on the top of delightful rolling hills some 6km north of Duras in the Lot & Garonne, being around 100km east of Bordeaux airport. The views in all directions are superb, surrounded by hundreds of acres of grapevines, fields of sunflowers and plum orchards. Until recently, the estate had produced its own excellent wines, notably Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The Tachau Estate has two scattered tranquil hamlets close to the tiny pretty village of Lubersac; both are really too insignificant to appear on maps!

    DURAS
One of many beautiful bastide market towns in the area with some of its mediaeval walled fortifications remaining, Duras has a picturesque castle, the ancient seat of the Dukes of Duras. There are a good range of shops including two supermarkets, bakers, butchers, chemist, newsagent with English newspapers, florists, cafes, three excellent restaurants and even a library.

      Magical and Relaxing

Left on 05/02/2011 for a stay in August 2010

We spent a wonderful week at Le Manoir de Tachau during the summer of 2010. Set in tranquil rolling hills and vineyards the owners have through subtle landscaping and positioning of sculptures made an idealic retreat, a truly magical place.
Our hosts were always on site to give advice on restaurants, vineyards in fact anything we asked about.

      A Lovely week

Left on 04/12/2011 for a stay in August 2010

Spending a full week in aquatine was a wonderful experience having not visited the area before. La Laterie was a stunning base from which to explore. The apartments are lovely, cool and large-though much closer together than we imagined from the web, with very little private outdoor seating. The pool was beautiful and well maintained with exceptional views of vinyards in all directions. The owner is a warm and fantastic character with a font of knowlege of the area, and was more than happy to help with anything at all. A trip that we certainly will not forget - weather-wonderful, host- stunning, accomodation-lovely, location - beautiful. The only thing i was disappointed with was the lack of outdoor privacy, but that is just me!

      Thoroughly enjoyable and relaxed

Left on 04/06/2011 for a stay in August 2003

Difficult to be accurate after such a long time, but we had a truly relaxed time with great times spent with the owners who made us and our son and daughter- in- law very welcome. The latter arrived after an extremely difficult drive from Germany and John did all he could to make their stay a really happy one. The cottage in which we stayed was delightful with everything we needed. John kept in touch with us on a daily basis so that we were able to find the best eating places, and all the places to visit.

A little bit of Heaven in France

Left on 04/05/2011 for a stay in May 2006

For 5 years we have stayed in Manoir De Tachau this is extremly well run by the gentleman who owns this and several other properties nearby. All restored to a very high standard with all mod-cons. Wake up each morning to a breath taking view of local vineyards all around you, take a stroll in the welll maintained gardens surrounding the property or sit by the pool and take in the silence. Nearby you have a choice of good French resturants exceptional value for money or visit grand Chateau such as St Emillion

Fantastic gite in beautiful area of France

Left on 04/01/2011 for a stay in July 2007

We have stayed in this gite several times and are returning again this year. Having first visited when our children were quite young almost 10 years ago, we are returning with them this year as young adults and they still look forward to going there! It is a wonderfully relaxing and beautiful area of France which offers bastide towns like Monpazier in the area as well as vineyards like Saint Emilion. The gite is clean and well equipped and the owner is friendly and welcoming.

      Beautiful cottage in stunning surroundings

Left on 03/30/2011 for a stay in August 2008

The cottage was spacious, well fitted out, clean and very comfortable. The location was truly beautiful, with a lovely outside dining area and views over the rolling countryside and vineyards. The children loved the big swimming pool and it was difficult to drag them away. The fishing lake is secluded and an idyllic place to spend some quiet time. There are good tennis courts in the local village along with a nice restaurant. We canoed on the local river, cycled for miles, and were the guests of our most charming hosts. We had a really lovely holiday and will return.
