A Beautiful Retreat after a Day of Exploration

Left on 04/22/2013 for a stay in April 2013

The accomodations were lovely. The colors, artwork, and furniture were exquisitly chosen. The beds were wonderful to fall into after a day of exploring. I could stay for hours just viewing the arcata Square from the balcony and windows, coffee in hand. Brochures and phamplets of where to eat (although the kitchen was a fine alternative)and what to do in the areas were most helpful. There are wonderful places to eat all about! All the amenities of home, yet nicer! It was a terrific stay. A note to the light sleepers--on one side of the square are a row of pubs that close at 2:00 a.m.. The clientelle can be a bit loud but we slept through (ear plugs are provided but we didn't use them). Also, on the square, it is common to see folks who have chosed to exist outside the societal norms. They choose to be what some would consider "homeless" but do not panhandle or bother folks. They were rather interesting to observe! We had a great stay.

      Hi Anne,

Thanks so much for your lovely detailed review of Plaza View Stay. We are so happy that you loved the apartment (truly the best Plaza location for people watching on our downtown square). We appreciate hearing guests say that they enjoyed all of the amenities of home but nicer. The light sleeper aspect is a reality downtown, we don't deny that, but the location convenient to the business district is the trade off, with plaza businesses just steps away. Luckily, the Stillman Building where Plaza View Stay is located, is not on the "Tavern Row" block of the Plaza.

Cozy rental with great art and plaza view

Left on 10/19/2012 for a stay in October 2012

This condo was comfortable and furnished with interesting art. The balcony with seating for two overlooks the plaza square, which has a colorful local scene, including hippies, bikers, and students, along with tourists, We enjoyed having access to the full kitchen and washer/dryer. The only downside is that the prime location also brings the noise that comes from being at the center of downtown. However, the owners provide foam ear plugs, and we slept comfortably. We would definitely stay again! The condo is booked through arcata Stay, who provided good service and directions.

Beautifully appointed stay in the center of town

Left on 08/15/2012 for a stay in August 2012

We were visiting our daughter in Arcata with my husband, my other daughter and her husband, and were looking for a spot with 2 bedrooms not too far from town. We found the Plaza View on VRBO and were very pleased with our accommodations.
As we have visited Arcata many times while our daughter was at HSU, we are aware of the issues of staying right on the plaza (having stayed at the Hotel Arcata before.) If there is one possible downside to this location, it's that this particular condo is the one that faces the square. This was NOT an issue for us. The noise level was low, and the double paned windows served us well. The owners also include noise machines and even ear plugs for those who need them. I will say that we were not staying during the school year; if you happened to stay there on the opening weekend of school, or homecoming weekend, you will find the Plaza busy through the night. So, if you are the type who can't sleep if there's any kind of noise at all, then this might not suit you. Otherwise, I would highly recommend this rental.
The place is beautifully and tastefully furnished, and has everything you might possibly need, including a washer and dryer, and a fully furnished picnic basket! The beds were comfortable and the space worked beautifully for the 4 of us. Another could fit in the living room if needed.
The upside to being on the Plaza is that you are walking distance from great restaurants, stores, and the cutest little movie theater you ever saw. It's fun to sit out on the spacious balcony and look over the activities in the Plaza during the day.I will look forward to staying here again.

      Beautiful Condo in Uncomfortable area

Left on 07/30/2012 for a stay in July 2012

I completely agree with the previous reviewer. The condo itself is lovely -- well-furnished, beautiful artwork, very comfortable. However, it was located in an odd, uncomfortable area. Maybe it's just our midwestern background, but we were happy to have the locked gate and the locked building entrance and the locked door between us and the "element" on the street when we arrived in the evening. We first went in to check out the place, then went back out to get our luggage -- there was a woman lurking by our car. Turned out she was just "relieving" herself (ugh!) but it wasn't a great start. There were several other people "under the influence" hanging out right outside the other gate entrance. It was also unnerving to read the sign in the condo, stating it was okay to call the police if it was too loud at 2 am when the bars closed. Luckily, we were so tired from our drive from Oregon that we slept soundly through whatever may have been happening outside.

Thanks Acedaughter for submitting your multi-star flipkey.com review of Arcata Stay's Plaza View Stay vacation rental. I am pleased to learn that you thought the vacation rental was lovely, arty, well-furnished, and comfortable.

I am sorry about the woman you discovered by your vehicle. The Arcata City Council is ardently working to have public restrooms installed downtown and hopefully it will be soon. We know that there is a traveling element, not Arcata residents, who do congregate around the Plaza, especially in summer when they are traveling through. Though they are by and large a harmless lot who just tend to "hang out, I understand that they might appear intimidating if you are not used to seeing such characters. We are happy to offer the security of the locked courtyard gates and doors to the building to put our guests at ease. I am glad you slept soundly and hope that your travels may bring you back to the redwood coast.

Beautiful rental on a busy square

Left on 06/10/2012 for a stay in May 2012

We stayed in the Plaza View for two nights in May. The rental unit itself is lovely - nice art and furnishings, very comfortable. It's setup like a suite, with the two bedrooms (each with their own bath) on either side of the main room which has a deck. The kitchen is a small area behind folding doors off the dining area, which you pass through when you enter the unit. The parking is behind the buildling in reserved spots, and then you pass through a locked gate into a courtyard which has some interesting art into the locked stairwell, and up the stairs into the locked unit - quite secure, which is nice because the square itself is the all-day location for some questionable types that apparently have nothing to do but hang out. There's a nice grocery store a 3-block walk away, and great pizza at Live From New York Pizza, which is just on the other side of the square.

      We loved this condo

Left on 12/03/2011 for a stay in October 2011

It was perfect for two couples. Much more comfortable and affordable than a hotel.

There were tons of restaurants well as two great grocery stores (both with tons of organic products) within walking distance, which was fabulous after a long day of site seeing. Ereka was also just a short ride away with more stores and restaurants.

We really enjoyed sitting on the porch and watching the local action. The comments about the bars being loud at night are true, so if that will bother you, you might not like this condo. We knew about it before hand, and we didn't mind it at all.

The condo was nice and clean, as well as nicely decorated. Comfortable beds too. And the rental agency was great.

We used our condo as a base to see the state/national redwood forests to the north and south, as well as the coastline to the north. It was an excellent location for this. Plus, we had our own little redwood forest in town to hike in, we we really enjoyed.

Thanks R.B. for booking with us again over Memorial Weekend. You did definitely have the best seat on the Plaza to watch the Kinetic Sculpture Race take off on Arcata Plaza. It is true that there is a greater noise level on the Plaza than at other Arcata Stay locations and some folks are sensitive to noise. But the trade off is that you are conveniently located near all of the great things downtown Arcata has to offer. Because of the holiday and world famous race, the Plaza did have a tremendous amount of activity day and night and that is usually the case when we have big events on the plaza.

We rented the unit as a one bedroom and found it to be aesthetically pleasing, comfortable and extremely convenient. Absolutely wonderful place for arcata lovers!

Left on 04/23/2011 for a stay in April 2011

A friend had recommended the Plaza View Stay to us for years, but we have been intimidated by the price (it's definitely one of (if not the) most expensive places to stay in arcata).

But the moment we walked through the door, we realized that it's a "splurge" we wouldn't regret!

Not only does this wonderfully-appointed 2-bedroom apartment (with kitchen, dining room, living room, laundry room, 2 bedrooms, 2 restrooms) overlook the plaza; it is actually on the plaza (pedestrians walk underneath the spacious patio)!

Never has the term "location, location, location" been more appropriate: It is the perfect home base for a larger group (in our case, two couples) who are going to be spending a few days in the great town of arcata.

Relaxing and cozy, we will never stay anywhere else in arcata, if we can help it!!!

Very impressed with every aspect of our Plaza View Stay!

      Mairead,

Thanks for your glowing Plaza View Stay review. I am happy that you enjoyed the accommodation and hope that your student will choose Humboldt State so you can return to Arcata for future visits. I'll bet the teenagers enjoyed people watching on the Plaza from the balcony.

Happy summer now that it is here..................Christy

      Arcata Stay is awesome

Left on 05/24/2010 for a stay in May 2010

This is the second time I have stayed in an Arcata Stay property, and both times were wonderful experiences. The rooms are perfectly appointed - well decorated and very comfortable. You definitely feel like you never, ever want to leave.

The rooms are all clean and tidy and well supplied. We spent some time putting together a puzzle we found in the living room cabinet - it was a great activity to share. We cooked several meals and ate in the dining room. We've been to Arcata before and have dined in the local restaurants, but for graduation weekend it was so much nicer to have the private space where we could comfortably lounge and fix our own (economically priced) meals.

While we loved the convenience of the location of the Plaza View Stay, I would caution people considering staying here that if you come for graduation weekend, as we did, you can plan on hearing noise and celebration in the plaza late into the night. It was all peaceful, happy noise, and we enjoyed being close to the action, but if you are a light sleeper, you want to stay somewhere else.

      Hi Billie,

I'm glad to learn that you were a "Happy Camper" over HSU graduation weekend. There is a lot to celebrate over that weekend and Plaza View Stay is right in the heart of downtown. Plaza View Stay is already booked for HSU Graduation 2011. It sounds like you and your party were very comfortable in this lovely accommodation and enjoyed the amenities when you gathered together. We hope to see you again. Have a terrific summer.

      Congratulations regarding your graduate.

Second stay and still loving it!!!

Left on 05/19/2010 for a stay in May 2010

May was my second stay at Arcata Plaza View for a weeks visit with my daughter. I have also rented Arcata Plaza Stay (twice)and Rose Court Cottage (twice)and loved each accomodation. I have reserved Arcata Plaza View for a return visit in July.

Arcata Plaza View offers a balcony overlooking the activities on the Arcata Plaza and is only a few steps away from the week-end Farmers Market, shops and restaurants.

I love my Starbucks lattes, but must admit that Brio Bistro latte is better. I love walking to Brio for coffee and pastry and sitting outside to enjoy the morning sun.

Take Christy Lairds advice for good local restaurants.

Enjoy your visit with Arcata Stay.

      Hi Mary,

I'm sorry I did not get to see you during your last visit because I was out of town, but hopefully we can catch up when you return in July. I know you are now hooked on being downtown and love staying in the Arcata Stays in the lovely Stillman Building. Plaza View Stay does have the best seat possible for people-watching on the Plaza and enjoying Plaza events like Saturday Farmers Market, the Kinetic Sculpture Race, or the world famous Arcata Oyster Festival. So Brio has bested Starbucks!!! That is good to know; I will spread the word. I'm hooked on my morning latte too. I am always happy to recommend restaurants and even arrange reservations for guests if they would like me to do so.

Enjoy your summer and congrats about the new grandbaby.

      Cheers............Christy

The location right on the town square allowed us to go to shops and cafes without the car. My young adult children were not old enough to drive the rental car, so this gave the freedom to explore and meet students from the college. Highway 101 was near by which allowed us easy access to the redwoods, the beaches and neighboring towns. The apartment kitchen was well equipped, so we had breakfast and dinner there most days, buying food from the near by fabulous Co-op. We lucked out on the weather, with only one rainy day.

Donna, it sounds like Plaza View Stay was the perfect lodging venue for you and your youngsters while visiting Arcata, with everything you could need or want nearby. Most great things in and around Arcata are walking distance. Hope you made it to our world famous Marsh Wildlife Sanctuary right here on Arcata Bay, just a few blocks from the Plaza. We hope you will return for a future visit and stay with us again. Thanks so much for your review.

      Convenient, comfy and well-appointed

Left on 03/05/2010 for a stay in December 2009

As an HSU alumnus, I knew what to expect when staying on the plaza: colorful loiterers, small-town urban hustle and bustle, and late-night raucous from inebriated revelers. Yet the spacious two-bedroom apartment overlooking it all proved a welcome respite – and provided a front-row view of the all the action. What a delightful surprise!

Clean, colorful and cozy, the flat featured a museum-like display of unique furniture and art pieces yet felt homey enough to allow me to kick off my boots and relax on the patio with a tasty glass of wine, artisan cheese and crisp apples, which I purchased at the Arcata Coop two blocks down. The kitchen came complete with dishes, pots and pans, stemware, flatware, coffee maker, and even a corkscrew for those who travel without. The bathrooms featured fluffy towels along with mounted and filled soap, shampoo and conditioner dispensers. The large bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, had comfy beds loaded with pillows, crisp bedding – and complementary earplugs, which were a necessity, especially on weekend nights. And the living room, with its welcoming couch and sunny-swept view of the plaza, provided a relaxing spot to watch one of the many DVDs or read one of the many books shelved above the television. Other amenities included a dishwasher and in-suite laundry room with washer/dryer, sink and iron – must-have conveniences when you’re traveling for work or pleasure.

Perhaps even better than its décor and comfort, I found the apartment’s location to be convenient to virtually all that Arcata has to offer. Safe and secure behind a locked gate, it’s within walking distance to dozens of shops and restaurants, it’s within biking distance to the university and parks, and it’s only a short drive to the beach, the Redwoods and other regional visitor draws. Some may balk at the plaza noise, but the apartment’s central location is unmatched.

I found the management team to be extraordinarily professional. Christy answered my emails

      Wow Wendy,

Yours is the most in-depth review I think we have ever received and you summed up the Plaza and described Plaza View Stay brilliantly. I am happy to learn that you enjoyed the lovely space and had all of the amenities at hand to enhance your experience. The balcony there is the perfect place to people watch and is a special bird's eye view during Saturday Farmers Market and our Plaza festivals. When I booked you, I didn't realize that you were HSU alum (I am too and so are all of my Arcata Stay owners); we could have had more conversation about that in common and changes to Arcata you may have noticed. I hope you return for another Arcata "old home week" and stay with us again.

      Thanks again for your review............Cheers............Christy

This is my 3rd stay with Arcata Stay. I came for the week to work and visit my
son. These Arcata Plaza and Arcata Terrace apartments are beautifully
appointed, spotless, conveniently located in downtown Arcata and have
everything I need to be comfortable during my stay. I will not even consider
staying anyplace else when either apartment is available. There was nothing
about my stay that I like the least. From the time Christy efficiently books my
stays to check-out - everything is easy and effortless. Thank-you!!

The location was just what we needed, only a few blocks from my brother's home, and right in the middle of downtown Arcata. We loved having the fabulous stores and restaurants downtown right outside our door, and being walking distance from Arcata Marsh was lovely. We would definitely stay here again!

      convenient and comfortable

Left on 09/30/2009 for a stay in September 2009

Plaza View Stay was conveniently located for visiting friends and sights near
Arcata. There were plenty of restaurants, grocery stores, and coffee houses
nearby. Parking was convenient. We enjoyed the fresh coffee in the "fridge"
along with the complete kitchen. Our first stay included packages of hot cider
and hot chocolate which our daughter enjoyed when she visited. Our second
stay, two weeks later did not include these amenities. I appreciated the
reading materials (lots of cookbooks, local history books, and maps of the
area) The rooms were decorated beautifully and felt likek a "vacation"
residence. We used the "sounds of nature" on the radio; it gets noisy on the
street down below. However, that is part of the fun of Plaza Stay.

The service was excellent. It was easy to make our reservation and Christy
called us back promptly when we had questions. This is a well-managed
apartment. I hope we get to stay again soon.

      Hi Carol,

Thanks so much for submitting the first Flipkey review for Plaza View Stay. I will look into the cocoa and cider stock and address that issue with housekeeping. I always have both here at Rose Court Cottage so will pursue this with the other stays. I'm glad you had an enjoyable stay. We look forward to your next visit.
