This is a pleasant 2 bedroomed villa - sleeping up to 6 people, just 5 minutes walk from the lovely village of Ardales in the Andalucian lake district.
It is compact, but very well-equipped for up to 6 people.
Ideal climbing lodge for nearby world- famous crags at El Chorro and a great budget property for a couple or family who want to enjoy a private villa with private pool close to a lively village and in stunning mountains with beautiful lakes.

This is an extraordinarily beautiful area of Spain—It is “the REAL Spain”- mountains, lakes and quaint white villages with narrow cobbled streets, and houses bedecked with flowers.
Ardales is a lively, very friendly village- little English is spoken, but that won´t stop you being understood by the locals who enjoy having tourists and make every effort to understand them and be understood. – We have translated the menus at most of the restaurants and have organized special rate menus for our guests at some of them.
There are 2 banks, a choice of butchers, a fishmongers, 2 bakers and a medium sized supermarket.
The church and castle ruins are at the top of the village, which are lit up at night are worth a visit with fantastic views of the nearby lakes.
Also within the village is a museum and tourist office and there are organized tours of the Ardales prehistoric caves.
There are regular concerts at the Cultural centre and a bank of computers with free internet access. –(Several of the bars also have free WIFI access)
A day out at the lakes is a MUST- amazing views, great walks, good restaurants and from Easter to September you can hire canoes and pedaloes .- You can swim anywhere at the lakes and will be surprised at the warmth of the water.
The neighbouring village of Carratraca is smaller, but boasts a luxury thermal spa- well worth a visit if you wish to pamper yourself for a day. Just 45 mins away are the historic cities of Malaga and Ronda- both served with a good bus service.
Granada, Cordoba, Seville and Marbella and Gibraltar are all under 2hrs drive, so it is a great place to stay if you wish to see the treasures of Andalucia.

My husband and I have just returned from a fantastic stay at Villa Jose, in the wonderful village of ardales. The villa is well maintained and the information provided by Eryl and Roland really helps when planning trips out. I would recommend hiring a car, we took trips to antequera, Gibralter and the Costa del Sol. The residents of ardales are a joy to be around. They do speak a little English, but i would say you should keep a phrasebook to hand just to be sure you can communicate effectively. They are welcoming as a community, my husband even went to help a local restaurant owner at his olive grove, which he really enjoyed. The lakes are beautiful and definitely worth seeing as they are only about 10 minutes away by car and you can hire canoes or pedalos for around 11 euros. We have fallen in love with ardales and will definitely return as soon as we can.

Nice villa on edge of real spanish village. Not much english spoken. Warm and sunny every day except rain on last day. We ate breakfast by the pool every morning and had a roaring log fire every night. Barbecued three nights and ate at local bar/restaurants in the village on the other four nights of our stay. El Mirador restaurant overlooking the lakes has superb views.
Villa Jose is an excellent value for money base for climbing at local crags and El Chorro.
Excellent friendly advice and service from Eryl and Roland, who even did some shopping for us as we arrived on Sunday when the shops are closed.

We couldn't have asked for a better service, both when booking the villa via the agent, Eryl, or by the owner of the villa, Jose. Jose met us at a previously arranged place and we followed him by car to Villa Jose. Villa Jose is in a very private location and we would never have found it without being taken there. Jose showed us the villa and how everything worked. He was really nice & helpful. We shared a bottle of wine and talked for a while before he left us.
The villa is well equipped and has the benefit of a lovely private swimming pool. It is a perfect base for exploring the mountains and lakes surrounding ardales. The walk into ardales itself takes only 5 minutes but is not suitable for anyone with mobility problems as you either have to walk by steep roads or cut across a rough path.
We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend, even though the weather was cold and windy. Although it would have been nice to have a little warmth, the bad weather didn't spoil anything for us as there is lots to see in the area. The people in the bars in ardales were friendly and very patient with us and our broken spanish. This is not an English abroad situation, it is an authentic Spanish hilltop village, so don't expect English spoken.
All in all, our experience was brilliant. We would like to return to ardales and Villa Jose sometime in the future.
