      Beautiful Views

A very congenial host. The property, toucans, lake, and volcano are spectacular. We liked it so much we bought a lot next door. The road to Bird Song requires a four wheel drive unless you are like us, really dumb and adventurous to a fault. Next visit will be with a 4x4.

      Amazing Views!

Left on 08/21/2012 for a stay in August 2012

We loved this place! The views from the villa were simply amazing- the lake, volcano, and rain forest can all be seen from the large glass windows on 3 sides of the villa. A short hike away is a small waterfall. The villa is in a remote location but that is part of the charm. We enjoyed sitting on the deck and watching toucans, other exotic birds, and monkeys in the early morning. The host, Allan, was very helpful in suggesting tours and activities. The only downside was construction going on during our stay, but now there is a nice covered patio with two hammocks.

      Wonderful!

Left on 07/02/2012 for a stay in May 2012

My fiance and I, along with 4 friends, stayed at Bird Song for three nights this past May. The accommodations were fantastic, and the views second to none. We were certainly spoiled waking up to magnificent views of both the volcano and Lake arenal, continuing to enjoy them over a delicious breakfast each morning.

Allan was truly a great host, arranging a number of our excursions when we arrived, suggesting several great restaurants to enjoy (including Racho Margot), and taking us on a great hike down to the refreshing waterfall on his property.

We would all recommend Bird Song if you're looking for a tranquil spot off the beaten path. With the main town a 20 minute drive away, we were always close enough to all the planned activities. I would certainly stay at Bird Song again!

      Wonderful!!

Left on 04/12/2012 for a stay in April 2012

Our family of 6 - 4 kids ages 16,15,13 and 11 stayed at allan's place for 2 nights and loved it. It is a long bumpy ride from the main road, but worth it if you would like to experience a beautiful, natural setting. Shortly after our arrival, Allan took us on a great hike to a waterfall and swimming hole which we had all to ourselves. We had a great time, climbing under and up the waterfall and then swimming in the creek. Later that night we sat out on the deck and heard, then saw Howler monkeys and many birds including toucans and parrots. Allan took us to Hotel Margot for a great buffet dinner which pleased even my picky eaters! We had a delicious breakfast the next morning and then took the short drive to ziplining at Sky Trek. After a day visiting La Fortuna and the hot springs we had one of the best meals I've ever had, prepared at the Villa by allan's cooks for a very reasonable cost (although I would suggest modifying the quantity for kids). We rose early the next morning to catch more wild life and got to see more birds and a very accomodating toucan who sat in a tree and talked to us for several minutes. Allan is a wonderful host and his place is beautiful and comfortable. Our kids especially loved the outdoor shower that is also home to the resident parrot. I highly recommend staying at Bird Song, especially if you prefer to be away from the touristy areas.

      Rave review

Left on 01/30/2012 for a stay in January 2012

My parents, my wife, and my 8 year old daughter (and our tiny dog cookie) just returned from a 6 night stay at BirdSongarenal. It was everything that was advertised and more. There is a new deck (not shown in the photos currently on the site) perched out on the end of the front yard that if you do not find spectacular, you are surely brain-dead. Allan was a perfect host, and his parrot (Lori) was there to entertain each morning as well. We rested in the two hammocks that are available right outside the upstairs unit,(We rented both units) and were throughly pleased with the comfort and isolation that BirdSongarenal represents. You must find a moment to get there and chill out. To not do so is purely sinful.

360 views that are these pics, no airbrushing...If this is not enough, Allan and his staff will go out of there way to make your stay exactly what you want. They are passionate about what they do and it shows. In walking distance is arenal national park, Arenal lake (and great Kite Surfing) and allan can arrange it all. Loved it

      Amazing Lake and Volcano Views

Left on 08/03/2011 for a stay in July 2011

My 2 sons (18 and 20) and I spent 4 days at allan Rudick's Birdsong Villa. What a wonderful experience. The incredible lake and volcano views are just that. When you wake in the morning, if lying on your back in bed, as you open your eyes you are looking right at arenal volcano through the huge glass windows. Roll your head left and you are overlooking the lake. You will not get this in La Fortuna. Bed is very comfortable too. No a/c necessary, lake and mountains keep it cool.Allan's genuine consideration for his guests and Odelies cooking (love the bananas at breakfast)are the X-factor. He makes you right at home from the moment you shake his hand. Its like you have traveled to stay with a family member. He will give you as much privacy as you want or hang out with you like a friend staying in his house. He is great for advice and will help you with whatever you need. It is probably best to have a car if staying here if you wish to tour. If you need rides, Bernardo was very accomidating - Allan will hook you up. Visit Pizza John's once and chat with him. Horse back riding/waterfall hike with Charlie (5 minute walk from birdsong) was alot of fun.
There is also a hike right out the front door to a very private and romantic 15 ft waterfall with a swimming hole. The pictures are a little old. The walkways are all lined with beautiful flowers and butterfly bushes. Butterflies every day. We saw monkeys twice and one morning there were 6 toucans in the trees. There is also a volcano/wildlife observation deck at the base of the property where I had my morning coffee in search animal life. The view from Birdsong is nothing but nature and very peaceful. Allan also likes to call his guests before arival so his communication is excellent.

Birdsong is a great mountain hideaway - Views, plus hospitality!

Left on 07/24/2011 for a stay in July 2011

We spent three nights at Birdsong in Castillo and very much enjoyed our stay. We rented the top floor, and alan Rudick provided bedding for our three kids while we slept in the queen. The views are as advertised - among the most beautiful in the world - full view of arenal, Lake arenal, and more. If you go, make use of alan's cook Odelay - local Tico woman that cooked breakfast (included) and dinners for us ($10 per adult, $5 per child). All were outstanding tico style food, more than we could ask for. Alan was more than a great host, taking us on a jungle hike to the waterfall, taking our kids on aTV rides, and introducing us to Rancho Margo, all without charging any guide fees. Alan truly cares what his guests think, and invests his time to make sure you have a great stay. His caring makes up for any discomfort at first when you realize that you are staying in the home he lives in (he stayed downstairs during our stay).

We highly recommend Birdsong, for the location, the views, the house, the cooking, and for our host. Thank you alan!

      Great Vacation Spot!

Left on 05/06/2011 for a stay in May 2011

I spent a few days at Birdsong and it was amazing. The views of the volcano were fantastic. I took my wife with me and it was very romantic to be in the heart of the jungle with panoramic views of Volcan arenal and Lake arenal. It was located very close to a lot of attractions. We rented an aTV and rode over to the zip lines that were close by. The proprietor of Birdsong was very accommodating and he brought us on some great hikes to see waterfalls and also took us to the hot springs. He was very well connected in the area and got us a great deal on horseback riding at the ranch just up the road. The "typical" Costa Rican breakfast we had each morning was delicious.

      Amazing view

Left on 02/21/2011 for a stay in January 2011

We stayed 3 days at Bird Song and absolutly loved it!! Arenal/Fortuna area is soo beautiful. We had the perfect view of the volcano, on the right side of the flow, clear day to even see the top but... unfortunatly it was not active!!! We are definitely keeping an eye on it's activity to return to Costa Rica and here at Bird Song.
The drive up is breathtaking, but you do need a 4 x 4; the roads are a little rough. Every morning we woke up to the songs of Parrots, Toucans and a beautiful yellow tail bird (that I forgot the name)
If you are looking for tranquillity, there is only one other house pass this B&B; and the it's a dead end... so no traffic!! lol
Every morning we had breakfast done at our convienience, and was enough to last us all day!
Allen made sure we had everything we needed.
If you are into Yoga, the platform with the view of the lake, volcano and forest is just perfect!!

We had an amazing time at Bird Song. The views of the rainforest, volcano, and lake are indescribable, you have to see it for yourself to believe it! Very peaceful & relaxing B & B. The owner is very accomodating & will help you with any problems or questions you have about the area and things do to nearby. The home cooked meals were delicious. A bit of a drive up the mountain to get there, but it was well worth it. Highly recommended! We hope to go back again someday.

My boyfriend and I couldn't have asked for a more perfect vacation! We wanted to relax and rejuvenate over spring break and that is exactly what we did! The B&B; is situated in the most beautiful area with a million dollar view in every direction. Front and center 24/7 was the very active volcano! It was amazing!
The food was delicious. The owner, cleaning lady and cook were friendly, helpful, private and understanding of our needs. We will definitely be back!
