    Additional Location Information

Argens-Minervois offers visitors the opportunity to unwind and turn back time. It's quietly tucked away on the sleepy banks of the Canal du Midi in the department of the Aude, with flourishing vineyards as far as the eye can see.
A series of country roads and trails through the vines, around our lake, or along the banks of the canal provide guests with scenic walking, hiking or running routes. And all of this within just 5 minutes' walk!

Argens is unique in that it is one of the few canal villages which has a port where visitors can rent a cruiser. It's a relaxing way to spend an afternoon, or simply gaze at the boats as they sail by whilst enjoying a nice refreshing glass of wine or cup of coffee at one of the three canal side restaurants.

The village epicerie (grocery store) is also within 5 minutes' walk, as are the three operational wine caves in the village. Enjoy sampling the village wines at wine tasting sessions at the caves, or visit Café Le Troubadour, which is owned and operated by our neighbour Gilbert. He and his patrons are always willing to share their knowledge of the local wines - and the locality in general.

One of the great things about this region of France is it boasts 300 days of sunshine a year! Even in winter, we can enjoy temperatures of 20 degrees and be sitting outside to have our lunch or sip aperitifs!

Argens is located between the Mediterranean and the Black Mountains in the Minervois wine-growing valley. It is approximately 20 kilometers from the historic city of Narbonne and 40 kilometers from the city of Carcassonne with its amazing medieval walled village and chateau. Argens is also conveniently located justi 20-minutes' drive from two major autoroutes, (A9 and A61), providing direct access to Toulouse and Montpellier (1.25 hours), Perpignan and Collioure (1.5 hours), and Barcelona (3 hours).

A 5-minute drive from Argens-Minervois takes guests to the beautiful market towns of Olonzac and Lézignan-Corbières. There they can experience real day-to-day French living at a variety of bistros, restaurants, markets, specialty food stores (such as boulangeries, patisseries, poisonnieres, etc), supermarkets, shops, and service providers.

Besides enjoying the land, guests staying at La Cave may also enjoy the sea. The long sandy beaches, marshlands, and rocky outcrops of the Mediterranean Coast near Narbonne and Gruissan are only a 30-minute drive away. So come and enjoy the comforts of home surrounded by the beauty and refreshing simplicity of the French countryside.

      The perfect de-stress and relaxation

Left on 10/23/2012 for a stay in September 2012

My choice of staying at 'La Cave' proved an extremely wise one as right from the very moment I stepped across the threshold I felt the friendly relaxing atmosphere and my de-stressing began immediately. The service I received was of a very high standard and all my needs were met with a smile and an air of 'nothing is too much trouble'. The attention to detail in the service is echoed in the home itself with the rooms decorated with a lot of care and taste. The bed was extremely comfortable causing me to have the best nights sleep I have had in a very long time! The house itself was an old wine making barn and so has an abundance of character helped by the wonderful renovations that remains sympathetic to the architecture, blending seamlessly with the modern touches creating a home that satisfies the traditionalist with those seeking a more modern place to stay. The area was very charming with lots of places to walk and visit - in fact there was so much to do I could fill several visits quite easily! Friendly locals add a touch of French rural life and they were always pleased to chat and share conversations even with my very limited grasp of the French language. Jo has a very extensive knowledge of the area and together with her help I was able to construct an itinary that made full use of the surroundings within my time constraints. All in all this was a wonderful holiday that I must admit was a wrench to leave but I will not hesitate to rebook and return to what I feel will become my favourite holiday destination.
