We just spent a week at Mountain Retreat in a two bedroom, 21/2 bath unit. The location is beautiful area where if you like hiking, golfing, wine tasting and touring you will enjoy your stay. The units are basically two story and ours was not handicap accessible. The unit was spacious and very well equipped. It had a full kitchen equipped for 8 occupants. The beds were a little harder than we were accustomed to but they were relatively comfortable. We used the fireplace and it was nice and cozy. The washer and dryer came in handy. The back deck included a charcoal grill and we used it quite a bit. Due to the weather we didn't utilize the front balcony as much as we would have liked.
One of the big complaints that we and others had, involved the Club House that encloses the pool, pool table and other amenities. It has been damaged by a fire last December and it doesn't appear that it will be reopened anytime soon. They did offer a wine and cheese night and an ice cream social in another unit that was being substituted for the club house.
The staff were all very nice and helpful both at check in and when you had any questions about the local area.
The resort is surrounded by a beautiful golf course and reduced rates are available to resort guests.
The surrounding area includes Big Trees State Park just 4 miles away and Murphys, a town with a number of wine tasting venues. There a couple of cavern tours that are within 20 miles down in the Murphys area. Columbia State Park is an old mining town that is also a nice place to spend part of a day and there is no fee charged. The whole area has a lot to offer and we will be going back.
